British Bulldog Meets Rottweiler - Getting Orgasmic With Organic

I finally got the chance to read through this last night. Didn't have enough internet service to make the 'likes' option work. This is a common problem for me- I often have to put in quite a lot of extra time and effort waiting around to 'like' things. In this case I lost internet completely after loading the page. Of course I could go back through now and 'like' everything. But take this explanation as a substitute- I liked it. :thumb:

Re the reveg. They grow funny leaves as they reveg- first one, then three, then five blades, till they are finally back to the normal number of blades. Remember that happening before? We discussed it a little in one of your other journals. I wouldn't consider flowering till the leaves are back to normal.
Very nice setup. I hope you get to spend lots of time in there. Someday I'll have an arrangement in life that's less helter-skelter, and be able to have more quality time at the grow. There is nothing as nice as quality time sitting and staring at the plants hey?
Very cool led, too.

:thanks: :tokin:

Never smoked LSD, sound like its good meds ;)

This is a bit of an arse kicking in comparison to the Incredible Bulk mate. It's blown me away completely, I'm in love :) It is a bit of an headfuck though, but I'm tripping along with it merrily, it's that nice kind of headfuck ;)

Weaselcracker, I'm sat here at the front of my plants atm. I can turn around and zip them up and down, it's a beautiful place to be except for the thoughts that intrude, like if I play my music too loud how am I going to tell them I was just testing growing and shit. Bastards, time for some positive thoughts. The plants are doing fantastic atm...could this be classed as an update? Maybe, maybe not...it's all SNAFU lmfao :Namaste:

Hello :420: I hope everyone is well.

I've not updated much (apart from my last stonered semi update) as it has been a busy week here, plus there isn't much to report on the first week of flower or when plants are in veg. As it has been over a week and I have managed to get a few things done I thought it was time for some pictures and a write up of what has been going on, so here it is.

First and foremost the Incredible Bulk (reveg) is still plodding along. She's gaining new growth but the inner leaves and buds that were left on are still yellowing, I'm not too keen on defoliating them yet until they are crispy enough to just pull away from the plant but this will be done soon enough. Here she is:

DSC00301ps.jpg

The Think Big (2) Auto is also growing well, no signs of deficiencies and either her or the Think Big (1) will be topped so that I can have a side by side comparison between them both and see if one yields better than the other. It won't be any conclusive evidence but it will be a starting reference point for any of my future auto grows. Here she is a little bit bigger than the last time she was here:

DSC00302ps.jpg

Next up is the Royal Queen Seeds Critical, she's also doing well so far and is looking like she will have a nice structure when she is bigger. She along with the other new babies is only being fed tap water that has been left out for 24 hours to allow the Chlorine to evaporate off. Also I left them for two days longer than I usually would without a watering, due to the fact that I had to travel at the weekend and forgot to pop back in to water them. I was expecting them to be dead when I got back on the Sunday but on the contrary they were doing better than ever! This just goes to show that I do tend to over water even though you would have expected me to have known better by now, something I really need to bear in mind for the future. Here she is:

DSC00305ps.jpg

I don't know why but I keep feeling that this Bubba's Gift is going to be something a little bit special barring any mistakes. Maybe it's because I respect Humboldt's for their Secret Golden Tree feed which my plants do seem to enjoy, I know that it's not really a reason yet still this feeling persists and only time will tell. Here she is still looking quite squat but broad too:

DSC00308ps.jpg

We have an addition to the family! The Lemon Skunk that I dropped had not popped up in the usual 3 to 4 days (planted directly into soil which I had drenched then left to dry out for awhile) but upon my return on Sunday she had poked herself through the soil and was there smiling at me in all her glory. She's a spindly little thing yet but it won't be long until she's catching up to the rest of them:

DSC00316ps.jpg

Now this next plant is confusing me. The what I believe to be Milk Strawberry Skunk is recovering from her CalMag/Nitrogen deficiency after a strong feed and is showing burning at the tips, she was fed tap water only with some melted Black Treacle on her last feed and the tips have not worsened so is of no concern to me. What does perplex me is that I may have mislabelled her, has anyone grown this strain before? I don't know why but I get the feeling that I may have her and one of the 2 plants in one pot in the flowering tent mixed up. The reason I say this is that those two plants are quite different from each other yet neither are the same as this one. Maybe someone with knowledge of certain strains may be able to interject here and put me straight, until then she will still unfortunately be labelled as she is. Not that it matters too much as they all end up being smoked by me :) Here she is:

DSC00317ps.jpg

Last but not least in the veg tent we have the Think Big (1) Auto. She is no longer shying away from the light and in fact is now leaning in towards it soaking it all up. I feel no need to lower the light though as she's not stretching too much and I'm happy with her overall shape and structure. As stated before either her or the Think Big (2) Auto will be topped for a side by side comparison grow:

DSC00325ps.jpg

Next up we have the flower tent and I just have to emphasise that not only do I love these new lights but it seems my plants do too! Usually whenever I transition my plants into flowering I don't feel I get the expected growth spurt since I stopped using the HPS for flowering. That's not to say that I was ever unhappy with my Mars 1600w, in fact I loved it until the 12 LED's burned out, but I was always slightly underwhelmed with the expected growth increase in the first two weeks. On a side note I will add that Mars Hydro have sent me replacement LED's to repair my light, but as it took so long (lost in transit for the first month), plus the fact that I'm wary of taking the light apart it's now stuck in my room unplugged until I can pluck up the courage to take it apart and solder them on (I did have the option to send it to someone in the UK and have it repaired but the less people that know of my whereabouts the better methinks, it will give me something to do on a rainy day), they did fulfil their warranty service to me. In the meantime I believe it was a blessing in disguise as it spurred me into action and resulted in me getting these new Rottweiler Cree lights, and hopefully my pictures will portray exactly why I like them.

So where are we at currently? Well, I'm happy with the lights, the plants are happy with the lights, the best thing to do would be to carry on, let the plants grow and reap myself some beautiful buds right? Wrong! lol, this is me we're talking about after all. There's no such thing as an easy grow for me, if it isn't broken let's throw a spanner in the works :)

I decided on the second night of flower that I would start spraying one of the branches of the Incredible Bulk with Colloidal Silver in an effort to stress it into turning male so that I can take the pollen and use it to seed one of the other plants that I'm happy with. I tied down one of the lower branches to pull it away from the main body of the plant and have carefully sprayed it every night since apart from one night where I was away from home. There has been no noticeable effect as of yet but it's no big deal, I will keep on trying for the 21 days that I have read about and see how things work out. Here she is with her limb tied down (bottom left of picture) and still growing like crazy:

DSC00284ps.jpg

Well after a few nights of seeing my Incredible Bulk plant having no ill effects from the bondage I noticed that the other 2 plants (supposedly Lemon Skunk and Paradise Delahaze) were growing rapidly and the Milk Strawberry Skunk in particular, densely meaning that there may not have been enough light reaching the centre of the plant so I decided that I would give her a bit of bondage too. So I tied some of her branches down (there was no need to pinch the stem or anything they were really supple and springy, I'm not sure if this is a good sign or not but they look very healthy except for one (there's always one!) yellow leaf) and opened up her centre to allow more light to her new inner growth. There was a fair amount of new growth in there too. If I am being picky I would say that the new growth is a little lighter green than I would like but I will continue feeding grow nutes along with melted Black Treacle (for the Calcium and Magnesium) and half bloom nutes until I cut out the grow nutes completely. The manufacturer of the lights stated that due to the more natural light spectrum of these LED's I should not need to feed extra CalMag as I would with my more traditional style LED's, that remains to be seen but I take them at their word and can always throw some in if I see fit.

Here are the 2 girls in 1 pot after I have tied down the branches:

DSC00274ps.jpg

A quick family pic (usually I would have at least another plant in flower at the same time but I wanted to see how these lights coped with just two, a good thing too considering that it's given me room to play around:

DSC00292ps.jpg

Finally I have a shot of the lights that has not uploaded sideways this time. If you have read the labels on them you are not mistaken, they DO state 60w each, but wow what a 60w light can do :)
I've lowered them a little now that the plants are adjusted to the new spectrum, here's to hoping that 4 instead of 5 is enough:

DSC00295ps.jpg

Now and again I will pop in the tent and give them a burst of the 800w LED that I have in there too, only for 5 mins or so at a time maybe once every other day, I don't know why I do it for sure, but it's there so why not? If you have any questions, answers or advice then please feel free to post away, or if you would like a ramble, rant or rave still feel free to post. Other than that I will sign off from the journal for now and wish you all the best. As ever may your buds be bountiful :thumb:

Indeed Mr Amazin, a lot of words for a lot of plodding along I reckon. I set out thinking it will be a couple of paragraphs and pretty concise and then my mind wanders

I do believe this is for you sir :passitleft:

They look perfect. Do you feel like you're getting an understanding of how organic soil works? For me it all still looks like voodoo. To makes matters worse I've been having a strangely hard time sourcing ingredients in Canada. I'm sure they're out there in large amounts- but google doesn't seem to work well for me when it comes to finding things like some of the various rock dusts, and extract of eye of newt and such.

This had me pissing my sides mate. I didn't think it would have been you wanting to see the girls that won, good job sir and thanks for my daily laugh :)

I understand how it works mate, I'm cheating lol. I'm not using ratios with my compost or soil mix that I cook, I just throw anything and everything in there within reason and the way I see it is that the plant will take up what it needs when it needs it. Plus I've got bottled organic nutes and I throw them in when I feel like they're hungry. Luckily none have died out on me yet so something is working. It feels just like doing my chemical grows but without the messing about with PH, I'm not even sure it can be classed as organic using bottled nutes instead of cooking my own compost teas but if I throw a few of those together later maybe it will be ;) One thing I know is that doing it this way seems much easier, I don't just mean with less messing about PH'ing but also in the fact that the plants seem to be much easier to handle and nute burn doesn't seem to be an issue no matter what I throw at them. Still, no doubt something will arise that has me cursing away and wishing I was on a chemical grow haha. :passitleft:

I like seeing these organic plants when the soil mix is working. No burnt leaf tips and they look so happy and carefree. The way UncleCannabis was growing so many different strains at the same time with the greatest of ease- that scenario would be a nutrient mixing nightmare for me.

Like I say Weaselcracker it's just really easy once the mix is done as they tend to just pretty much grow themselves. The only real thing I bother about is checking for signs of any deficiencies and if I spot any I mix up some Plantmagic Grow or Bloom depending on where the plant is at the time. That and a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of Black treacle which I leave to cool, or a spoonful of Epsom Salts if I'm really lazy which has been known to happen after a rough night of debauchery :)

The last feed I gave the girls in the flower tent was a mixture of Grow, Bloom and Black treacle, plus some SGT, no real measuring involved I just throw it all in and the plants take up what they want. It may come back to bite me at harvest time but so far the only noticeable difference I see between plants I'm growing this way and the much more meticulous way of my chemical grows is that there doesn't seem to be as much frost as I get when using chemicals, but the potency does not seem to be affected in any way. In fact I smoked some of my organically ended (lol can't really say grown as it was grown, killed and regrown again in numerous ways if you remember) LSD last night and even though the only frostiness I could see was on the inside I was zoned out staring at my screen drifting away to the sound of music by around 7pm. It definitely retains it's potency somehow, although I know that the frostiness is supposed to reflect the potency. It just doesn't seem to add up to me. The one thing I will say is that while the plants are happy, I'm happy :thumb:

Well, it's something for me to dream about as I try to find a way to get everything I need sourced and shipped here to Antarctica, without having to spend thousands of dollars doing it.
When I first started smoking there was no such thing as frost. Some of the strongest herb I've ever smoked, here and in Thailand, was just brownish scraggly crappy looking stuff. So I have no idea how that works.

I've been wondering about that myself. I'm under the impression that the trichomes contain all the THC etc and that seeing plenty of them on the outside is a good thing, yet if I compare this LSD to say the Plushberry or Dark Devil which are always frosty I can honestly say that it blows them away potency wise. Maybe there's something more that I'm missing but yesterday I was actually wondering why the bud was so powerful when I was expecting it to be quite a weak smoke judging by it's looks and lack of frost. That's what got me digging into the bud to see where the trichomes were at, they were there but in nowhere near the quantities that I see on some of the other grows. Maybe the plant material itself can harbour THC or something, I don't know but it's something that has me wondering ;)

As for buying materials I should think that there is an alternative for most things that are cheaper to source locally. I did a lot of looking into buying the materials required for Peejay's mix and added the items into the checkout basket then soon dropped them as I saw the prices rising into the hundreds. Absolutely outrageous for some of the pricing, for instance (I added these to a wish list so that I could alternatively source them): Organic bulb food £53.75 per 4lb bag, Organic Bonemeal £40.63 per 4lb bag, 16 quart potting soil £37.80, Alfalfa £27.82 per 3lb, Azomite (rock dust) £112.30 per 10lb! You can see where I'm going here. There was a lot more too and all at seriously silly prices but after shopping around I bought the lot, all in good quantities for around £70-£80 and I wasn't skimping either. The Azomite equivalent which was Volcanic Rock granules I bought for £8 and a three times the size bag. I bought Alfalfa seeds for 99p from a local supermarket, throw them in, let them sprout then chop them back into the soil. Some of the items I paid so little that I just bought 10kg (22lb) tubs of. My problem when first looking was that I thought everything had to be exactly the same, but judging by the results both now and on my past grow there are no problems with replacing an item with something else that offers the same nutrients.

I would say that my water only plant was almost a success but the calcium and magnesium release rate were too slow especially as I was growing under LED and these plants tend to need more of those. But hey a spoonful of Black Treacle resolved that issue and the Garden Lime that I used is still breaking down in the soil and my compost tubs for later uptake, as is the Azomite equivalent which takes around 4 to 5 years to break down and release it's trace elements, yet provides a home for the microbial life anyway. I'm actually tempted to take Conradino's advice and grow a plant using soil from my garden and compost, I just don't want a hole left in my garden lol. Everything grows well in there though, the Apple tree planted last year has vigorous growth at around 4 feet tall already :)

Dammit you have me tempted to try it though Weaselcracker :thumb:

I hope I am not too late! Have you ever used smart pots? I was just wondering how your air pots compare to them. They look very nice, and are on the expensive side, so I wondered how you like yours? :reading420magazine::passitleft:Your turn

:nicethread:Nice Intro!:yahoo:

Hey PinkyGreen welcome aboard and far from too late.

I have used smart pots, I have a 25 gallon one which is currently residing in my shed. I like both and can't really say that I have a preference except in a tactile way, I find both to be superior to the standard plastic pots. The reason I mention the tactile nature is that sometimes when moving the smart pot the cloth can give me a feeling of discomfort, I do get funny that way sometimes. If I was to be picky I would also say that when moving the smart pot I worry that the soil moving around is breaking the roots, whereas the airpots are quite solid. That being said I won't hesitate to use the smart pot again when I next want to grow a bigger than usual plant :thumb:

Ok Weaselcracker I'm dedicating this plant to both yourself and Conradino, Conradino for suggesting that it can be done, and to you for making me want to actually try it.

After the earlier discussion I decided that I would actually give planting a seed in soil from the garden mixed up with my compost for a truly organic as it can get grow. Will it grow? Who knows? But I'm going to give it a try all the same. First and foremost there are a few problems that I may run into.

The first being that my soil here is clay and dense, I would have liked to use Perlite for aeration, and add Myccorhizae to help the roots along, they're going to need all the help they can get breaking through this soil. I haven't used any additions at all though except for my compost which I used to a 1:3 ratio. One good thing is that clay soil is full of nutrients and is around the PH neutral to Alkaline range which should suit these plants.

Secondly, the bug problem. I know they're in there, I could see them. My only worry is the dreaded borg (spider mites), but it's a chance that I'm willing to take in the name of the experiment, if matters get out of hand I will use Diatomaceous Earth along with SMC. It worked the last time I had them, I'm sure it will work again. Basically I'm not too concerned about pests, it's part and parcel of growing organically and there are measures that can be taken.

Finally, will it grow? This I cannot answer but I have faith in the strength of nature, if the plant breaks ground then I will be here to welcome her with open arms and I will do my best to keep her alive and nurture her through to harvest. If she never does then I will try one more time with a different strain (Incredible Bulk as this is a hardy strain).

So with all that out of the way I shall move on to the details:

Strain: I've chosen to plant my Milk Strawberry Skunk for this, all the details are at the beginning of my journal as to the strain's heritage.

Medium: Soil from the garden and homemade compost from my tumbler. 3/4's soil and 1/4 compost.

Nutrients: I will be trying to avoid nutrients but I'm not going to kid myself here, I know there will be deficiencies unless I'm lucky enough to have soil that has everything essential to Cannabis' needs. If the need arises I will use what is currently in my organic arsenal, Grow, Bloom, Black Treacle (or Epsom Salts), Fish Mix and Secret Golden Tree. But hopefully mainly just tap water that has been left out overnight for the Chlorine to evaporate off.

I'm not sure if these pictures were supposed to be uploaded to a different section than usual but as they're all related to the grow I see no problem with uploading them to my member's gallery.

Where the journey begins:

DSC0032612.JPG

Looks like a patch of soil, oooh errr wonder what I can do with that?

Here is my nice black compost that's been cooking in the tumbler since last year. It has all my kitchen waste but some lovely amendments in there such as Bonemeal, Blood Fish and Bone, Volcanic Rock Dust, Bat Guano, Chicken Manure, Seaweed and Seashells gathered from the beach, Leaves and various patches of soil dug from not only my own garden but from the woods too. You can smell the richness emanating from it, plus the chicken and bat guano too :)

DSC00334ps.jpg

Black Gold, mmm

Well wait until the wife sees this. I've hidden it behind the bushes so she doesn't spot it:

DSC00340ps.jpg

If she does complain too much I can always make it bigger ;)

All the soil and compost has been mixed together and I've removed any organic matter that I think is either too big or will grow too quickly:

DSC00344ps.jpg

That's grass at the side of that tub, but it isn't my kind of grass :ganjamon:

Pot filled and my Milk Strawberry Skunk seed ready to be planted directly into the soil:

DSC00349ps.jpg

That pot is heavy by the way, way heavy

Here she is in the tent with the bean planted, it's all a matter of time now. I'm thinking 4 or 5 days and she should be up saying hello:

DSC00353ps.jpg

That soil is alive, it's moving

A quick shot of the family waiting on their new baby sister:

DSC00352ps.jpg

Well fingers crossed that we'll have a newborn in the tent again shortly. If not then the only thing that it has cost me is the cost of one seed and a little of my time, definitely nothing to be crying about. Thanks for the inspiration Weaselcracker and Conradino, and thanks to everyone that shares the journey. All the best and may your buds be bountiful :thumb:

Hey brightlight welcome aboard, great to see you here. I'm not exactly doing outdoor I'm just using some of my garden soil to see if I can grow with just that and compost. I hear what you're saying about the lime but I was trying with no amendments that need cooking in, I only added compost. I can't see the seed being able to grow in it though as the soil has baked hard as a rock on the top lol. I think some cooking will be in order the next attempt ;)
