thanks beemer.....you might be right about medicare for public employees.... I remember hearing about that, but nothing ever came out of my check for it. But I do remember hearing about it way back. but I'm a few years short of 65. But I may need it by then.
It may be different here. When I worked for the fire department, civil service, we didn't pay into Social Security but we had to pay into medicare. I also found out that you have to sign up for medicare A when you turn 65 or get penalized. Weird. I didn't but the guy I talked to said i was close enough that there would be no penalty. And a person needs to sign up for the rest at least 3 months before you will be needing it. That is SSI and medicare B and whatever else you are getting. Just a few tidbits.
