hi mate, making a tent would be the best option, you can get that plastic thats black on one side and white on the other and that is the light proof stuff, or you can make a frame out of wood, jorge cervantes dvd has a great build guide, if you have not seen it let me know and ill find the link and pm you so you can download a copy, it tells all the basics about fans and lights so a good dvd to watch, cooltubes work really well, not tried one myself but the best idea of have seen is to have the cool tube drawing air in from outside the tent then past the bulb and back out the other side of the tent, it would mean you need seperate fans for carbon filters, or you can run it so its pulling the hot air from in the room past the bulb then out through a filter, but check up on it as ive not used one due to my grow are,
my grow door is open a few inches when lights are on then off at night, for smells i just use a few plug in air freshener type things, have 1 in each room of my place and that keeps smells right down unless im near the plants, in flower you can notice it but only near the grow room, so air fresheners keep my plant smell under control, id love to use carbon filter but it would mean i need to knock a hole in a wall to fit vents, so not really possible
its ok to use lst during flowering, the first 21 days of 12-12 means the plant is going through its stretch phase as it adjusts to the lights off period, when the lights go off the plants do 3 things, 1 is repair damage done during the day, so repairing leaf damage or stem damage, 2 is the plant sends nutrients back down to its roots so root growth is more vigorous during lights off time, 3 is the plants stretch, when the plants are in the shade they stretch to get back into the light, so when the lights go off the plant does the same process and this is why you get the crazy stretching at the start of flower, if you go from 24-0 down to 12-12 then you get more stretch compared with someone who went from 18-6 down to 12-12, the best light scheduel that reduces stretch is glr.
you mention a scrog, if you find alex's v scrog journal have a read and see how he does it, but a scrog is a great idea for keeping an even canopy and works well, you would need something big enough to let the plants branches grow through it and the side branches to go through it, but the best method i find is the method alex is doing where the screen is below the plant then you tie the plant down to the screen so its not rubbing on the plant or restricting growth, if you cant find his journal give me a shout and ill find the links, he got it well documented so well worth a read
you could also make an ona bucket to help with the smell and actually have this in the grow room, i find the plug in air freshners work brilliant for a low number of plants but when you have many plants you can notice some smell nearer the grow space but outside that area you cant smell the plants, or buy scented candles etc etc, but one gel works really well and you can make a vented ona gel bucket so your circulating the air into the bucket then out vents in the side of the bucket and this then acts as a scrubber
i say your fine removing leaves, its something i do on my plants, if i cant tie the branches out the way or pull the leaves out the way then i just remove them, outdoors plants lose leaves all the time to insect, animals and disease, indoors we give them all the care they need so remove the odd leaf here and their is not going to make much difference, the kind of leaves to remove at the ones with a long stem of 2.5 inch or roughly that size, leave the smaller leaves as their not blocking much light but if you have big fan leaves blocking light to buds then i remove them as it helps with light penetration, or try gently pulling the branch over using lst, i dont pull them over much but just enough to get light to all parts of the plant,
the roots look great, certainly got plenty so the plant is getting plenty of water and nutrients, nice colour as well
sky bound pretty much said the same as what i was typing, the black and white poly is good stuff and totally stops the light getting in to the plants when the lights are off, you can buy big rolls of it,
