BigSlim's First Grow Nothing Fancy Yet - 2010

You can begin bending the branches (LST) at anytime as long as it's done carefully in small increments. You'll want to lay the branches out towards the edge of the pot, then as the branches grow, you'll the begin training them in circular patterns. This allows you to keep the plant close to your light without touching the bulb, allowing light to penetrate, and cover the entire plant. If you keep this regiment ongoing when you transplant to larger pots, you'll be rewarded with a compact, productive grow similar in shape and size of my plants you commented on. Take a look at my member photos of my last three LST grows for visual help.

Good Luck!

OS is correct. Small increments and you will have a short bushy plant that won't grow straight up. The leaves themselves will start to turn upwards and then you band a little more. Your also going to want to tie the main stem in the opposite direction to keep it from coming out of the medium as you bend.

There are a couple of great examples around. I just use a cut up wire coat coat hanger and loop it over the stem, stick it in the ground so it slightly bends the plant and then repeat as it starts to form to the shape.

well bad news i decided to transplant her into her new permanent home yesterday but she didnt take it to well i went to check on her today and she is completly droopd over and dried out dont kno why i gave her plenty of water

Lookin real good there. You seem to be coming along well with learning all these new things lol. Its a pain in the ass some times but thats the life of a farmer. Good start and good reading.Im in, Happy growing!

Hope they get better, whats your water looking like these days? Do you have a picture of the damage?

and after

I think you may have cut to much off, you should end up with 2 pointy leaves sticking up that will become the new tops. Is this the plant your having problems with? That could be the reason. I like to take a razor blade and scoop the top growth to expose the new branches. A razor also helps in making sure that you dont cut to much off.

nah didnt get to take any pictures my phone was bein gay, the new growth had started when i switched pots i think maybe it was to much stress all at once cuz i got impatient

this morning the leaves were brown and crunchy so i jus went ahead and pulled her

ohwell i guess lesson learned dont get in a hurry lol

ill have more started soon so im not to worried bout it got lots of random seeds to experiment with before i start buyin my own so its all good

Topping wont kill em, but during the transplant, what steps did you take to avoid damaging the roots?

The easiest way to transplant is 1 time into its final container by starting the sprout in a dixie cup. When you are ready to transplant, wet the medium, slice off the bottom of the cup and then straight up the side. Place the whole thing including cup in the hole in the soil you've created for the transplant. Peel away the cup and pack in the new soil gently around the root ball. The entire root system will be undisturbed when you place the entire thing in a new larger pot, rather than try to drop it out of its container and lose soil along with roots.

:goodluck: with the next 1 Slim. Don't let a single failure ruin your motivation. Just take it 1 simple step at a time and you'll figure it out. Sometimes it takes doing nothing to realize your own potential.

thanks herbs my motivation aint goin nowhere ill get it right jus give it time lol

i wasnt to easy with it i guess, i kinda just scooped her up with my lil shovel tool thing

yea this time they will jus be repotted once and left probly wont top just lst

don't get discouraged from topping, just do it once they are in their final container next time, but like I said, that didn't kill her, stun maybe, but won't kill a plant if you top it.

yea thanks for the advice

i didnt think the actual topping did it jus that i tried to transplant pretty much right after lol

No big deal ya live and learn. Topping is such a great thing when growing in spaces with out alot of head room. I have 3 grow tents that are 7 feet tall and for some reason i always need to top and train them into becoming a bush lol. I didnt do it on my last bag seed grow and i think that the yeild was hurt over all as well because the plant are to focused on making the big mama cola on top. :yummy:

Im not a cola guy any more my self i mabey grow one plant every harvest that has a main cola to keep for myself but for production its great to learn how to top. Also very easy, just remember to leave the 2 new leaf spots under the node that your taking off.

Cant wait for the next update. Take er easy m8 :thumb:

Even for personal, your gonna want the most out of your crops. Topping is the only real way to get a higher yield. Potency is reduced by a small amount each time you top because the plants energy is now focused on more than one cola, however it doesn't matter too much when you can get a higher yield and if you grow in hydro, the potency really isn't affected too much since you can regulate the nutes.
