Barneys Farm Sponsors Grow: Gorilla Zkittles, Orange Sherbert Plus Many More

Shes on my list :p looks absolutely stunning cuz. I got 3 ladybirds in my flower room.... i think. Hope they didnt get sucked into the fan lol. I aint seen em for days either.
Thanks Bilbo! I love this plant. She's going to need a light haircut and a trim underneath soon though. I think she'll get another month or so in veg yet as I want to grow a monster with this one. Still no sign of the ladybirds. I might find them after the trim but I'm not getting my hopes up. It's raining again now so no bug hunting for me today

Here is the Phantom OG earlier on today....

She has a small amount of yellowing on the newest growth tips which is growing out after a couple days....

She's a bit too bushy now so I started pulling off all the large fan leaves....

Continued....

I've yet to finish but now she looks like this....
ORG_DSC09873.JPG

I still need to remove a whole load of lower growth that's starting to become a tangled mess. I'll bend her branches down and give her some recovery time though judging by how well she's growing now I don't think we'll need very long....

She's still dark on the inside despite a good number of leaves coming off. I'll have another go shortly if I get that precious 5 minutes....

The plants certainly seem to like this cheap soil during veg. I've got the next bag ready for the transplant. I'm just waiting for the pots to turn up then they'll all be put into their final homes. The next bag of soil I'm using is the John Innes No.3 which is a heavily fertilised soil designed for growing fruiting crops and vegetables. These 2 will need a transplant soon....

I've been getting ready for the germination of the new seeds today. I purchased some of these because they were so cheap so I thought I'd try them out now and see how much water they hold and how long they take to dry out. They do hold a lot of water and you have to give them a good shake to get the excess water out. They're just sat on the side exposed to the air and they're still nice and moist. I will be using a dome though when they have the seeds in them....

As it's an inert material I'll be using them MegaCrop. Hopefully I'll be able to use this for both the hydro and soil grows which will make things much easier....

I used a grinder (blades at the bottom) on the sample batch but the process allowed too much ambient moisture into the powder, which made it clump and it made the weights unreliable in the end.

Now I've taken to mixing bigger batches at once (at DrDoob's suggestion), figuring that the more you mix at once the less the ball variation. When I water the Candidas (6g/gallon), I mix a gallon of 12g and cut that with another gallon of plain water in a 2 gallon watering can.

They recommended mixing a concentrate solution, but farside said he tried it and his didn't stay in suspension - and the sediment would never really mix back in.

Maybe I'll do the grinding thing again next time the Santa Ana's blow through and the RH drops into the 20s.

Weird starter cubes. They look like a cross between rock wool and Timothy hay.

I wonder if Timothy hay bales(mini) would work as starters?

Timothy hay is for rabbits/ guinea pigs, for those not familiar.

Do they have an ingredients list? Or does it just say that they are inert.

Cool. Sounds like a bit of practice may be a good idea to see what it's like for myself.

I'll have a look shortly. It reminded me of pet straw as well. As long it doesn't attract rodents otherwise I'll have to give GG a call!

got my chicken roll bait and minnie mouse dress on ready mate.!!!. heehee.
I like the look of those cubes. could be a goer. You have finally done it with these girls mate. I cant stand it any longer. The beans need to be germed now !! I am off on holiday in 3 weeks so have a dilemma over leaving the rdwc running for that long unattended. ( too many waterfalls and blockages already). Mrs GG wont rest knowing that we could come back to a disaster zone, waterbed , no electricity, angry neighbours and the boys in blue. The girls in currently( who i have lost faith in sadly, seeing so many other Hulkberry poor harvest !) are being evicted into coco and fabric pots(27Ltr) , going under my 200w cuttings light with the germed Barneys seeds ( all 8 hopefully germing that is !). Hopefully by the time i get back from my jollies , i can get the Barneys girls into veg and 4way mainlines with the full lighting back on. Am so trapped about staying in coco with those too. Loved it as a medium. I have Nft , rdwc and coco option to consider but like the idea of coco on the nft tables in cloth bags being drip fed. Cant decide if run to waste or if possible to recirculate with coco ? Would appreciate any thought/suggestions ??
Will be growing the hulk alongside somehow or may find a nice spot to plant them locally and leave till harvest ready naturally.
Am stoked to find a valid reason to germ the Barneys but terrified to germ them as only have these to use. I have shit germ rates !!!. Have tried rootIt cubes , coco, peat pellets , soil
soaking till tap pops out , in tissue, between plates and still manage to fuck em up
Any tips very ,very welcome too !

It just says hemp fibres. When they get wet they do look a bit like rockwool but they fall apart quite easily if you mess around with them. They should be fine for the job though. The 2 that I left out in a dry environment over night are still moist so that's all they need to do really. The rooting plugs would have dried out under the same conditions. You'll get to see them in action soon enough....the drama :)

I don't have any experience with NFT but those Wilma systems that I was using before are great for leaving unattended and they can run soil, coco and clay pebbles. Autopots are another good choice for an automatic system for coco growing. I've read about them flooding though if they're set up wrong. As for the germination, I always skip the paper towel and cup of water and just plant the seed into whatever medium I'm using. With these next Seeds I'm going to soak the hemp cubes in a weak nutrient solution of around 150-200ppm. After that I'll make sure they're not too wet by shaking the water out of them. Then I'll put the seeds into the little hole provided and stick them into the propagator with it sealed up. As soon as I see life I'll remove the dome and give the root a chance to grow out of the bottom a little bit before putting them into a net pot full of clay pebbles. That's how I hope it happens anyway lol.

Phantom OG....

24 hours after her little trim and she's looking great for it....

What a beauty. All that growth that was looking a little weak yesterday has become much more healthy looking. I'm still only feeding her plain old tap water with a PH of 6.5 and won't be thinking about nutrients for a little while yet I don't think....

I've somehow got to keep this contained in here for the next 4 weeks. That doesn't sound too bad but I'll have some new plants to find a home for soon....
