Barney's Farm Glookies, Capn Style, 600 Watt HPS, Crazy Growth!

Thanks guys for checking out my grow. Sorry I couldnt show you this grow style all the way to harvest. Im sure you all can see the growth and that its an amazing style. I will be doing another one just like this soon. DWC is next though! Ive ran CapnStyle for about 4 years now without changing it up. Time for something new. Ill start a new journal when I can. Seed has already been soaking and going in rockwool TONIGHT. Everything cleaned, sanitized, and reworked my tent on a few things (fan, ducting).

This one is completed.

Alright guys! New journal up. Stop by and drop a line to get subbed to it!

Damn Hunter, not sure how I missed what has happened the last few days over here. Sorry you ended up with a face full of pollen sac. I notice the white specs in MC that sink are probably the cal/mag and usually dissolve within a half hour or so. I do notice a lot of the black specks, probably the dehydrated kelp, sometimes don’t dissolve for a while.

Word of the wise on the MC, it likes to suck in moisture from the air so if you ended up with a fairly large bag pull a mason jar full to use for the grow and food saver or repackage the test sealed up tight.

I’ll sub into the new journal. :thumb:

hey @HunterNitro to bad what happend to the plant.
i had a few question cuz i was doing this and i dropped a question to phantom who referd me to this journal.

So i had no idea what i was about to do is called "THE CAPN STYLE ". lol! i was just making things up as i was going.
im kinda doing the same thing with a seed thats currently germinating.

I was wondering do we need to have the wool cubes cut into smaller peaces or would it be okay if its just one peace.
Also, aftera while if the light hits the cubes, algae will start growing. would that be a problem? my thought was to put some perlite on the top just so it covers the cubes.

also, how are you cooling that resv water

The cubes help with air to the root zone. I dont see why you couldnt use a solid block but me or the other two growers have never used a block in this method for final potting. They use blocks in commercial grows which is similar. You wouldnt want to cut the rockwool yourself because that will crush the rockwool trying to cut it and would not be any good.

You need to cover the rockwool with any type of cover, I use reflective sheets on top of mine and never had a problem or algae growth. I would not personally use perlite but im sure it would work. Just cover it. No need to over complicate it.

Cooling or aeration(bubblers) is not needed due to the method and how its delivered. You should be top feeding at least 4 times a day for 15 minute intervals. Its not DWC so neither of these are an issue. The roots are not sitting in water and the pump running for 15 mins completely flushes the rock wool each time and is very efficient. I would still make sure to use a beneficiary bacteria just for root health and rapid growth.

Let me know if you have any questions. @ me on your grow that you are doing like this I would like to follow along. I dont see it in your journal.

I have been growing like this successfully for 4 years now with crazy rapid growth.. Im finally changing it up on my 3 current grows with soil and DWC. Back to rockwool most likely next grow =)

Im in DWC right now and my growth rates are just not the same. They are good but just cant outgrow the rockwool top feed. Its really insane to see the difference and i know why commercial guys pretty much use rockwool exclusively.

i'll tag you when the time comes. Currently i am in process of putting all the puzzle peaces together. Currently my main difficulty is the size of the tent i have. From my measurement, if i put a 5gallon bucket then the tent is too small with the light hight and plant hight. However, it allows me to have 4 plants.

Running the wide but fairly small in hight buckets would just not give me the chance to have 4 plants in therebut two.
I'm thinking of cutting the tent and sticking the sliced peaces to the wall and hang my light to the ceiling which would fix all this issue, but it will also ruine the tent.

You need space for this method. You have to have your pot you are growing in and your reservoir under it so this can take a lot with a big res. My 7 foot tent is not enough for the plant I want to grow. I now have 8 ft of room so I will do things a little different next grow. Also, a lot of plants dont work well with this method in my opinion. One or two max. Good luck cant wait to see what you do with it =)

indeed, space is key specialy if you are trying to allow gravity to do most of the work

Senior I wished i could help you more in the LED section but I cant. I can help you with some numbers though and give you an idea. So the rule of thumb is you get what you put in. Ill explain more. If you put in 200 watts of light, you will grow around 200 grams of cannabis. That follows down the chart. 1000 watts of power and you will get around 1000 grams. Now of course this is an estimate but its a good number to hit and rule to go by. Lets look at your setup. I looked that light up and it seems that it is around a 185 watt light. Plus you have 2 strip lights that are 50 watt it seems. So you are averaging around 285 watts in your grow. You can expect around that in grams once your grow is finished if everything goes good. Now this number is good with one plant or 10 plants. You will still yield the same. This is why I grow one plant per light. Yield doesnt change with number of plants. LED's do a GREAT job at vegging plants, but when it comes to flowering they are slack in my opinion, mainly because im after those monster indoor colas. Find someone that is growing with led and what you want to average and see what lights they are using and the wattage of it. I saw one guy that built his LED and said it was only 300 watts and his grow looked amazing for 300 watts if that is the true draw wattage. Some of those LED's can get crazy expensive. I saw some for $3k
Hey Hunter.
I hope you and your family are healthy.
I know this is an old conversation , but I wanted to follow up.
I actually was trying to remember how much wattage I had now with both lights burning and remembered this thread.
So , w/ both ( the new one and the old ) I am getting about 785 w.
I completed the grow that you , @oldsmokey and @Canadadoes were helping me with.
After drying and curing the 6 plants , I ended up with around 30 Oz.
So your rule of thumb , of 1 watt= 1 gm is pretty damn close.
785 w = 28 oz .
I wonder if that works for auto’s ?? :p :Namaste:
