B0rk Goes RDWC - 3 Strains 550W LED Indoor

Your use of the chiller to feed the supply line to the totes is something I hadn't considered. Mine runs just in the reservoir. It makes me wonder what the exit temp of the chiller is and how much difference the flow rate of the pump will make. I'm using that same chiller so if I get time today I'm going to do some experimenting.

Running autos makes good sense as long as they transition to flower before they become monsters and take over the tent. Are you planning to top/train them or just let them do their thing? HID or LED?

edit: not really baby vomit, just what I called it when JM first posted about it. Some sort of spoiled milk concoction. Nothing that would work for a hydro system.

hehe.. I will check it out once im done with my bartending shift.. ya running the chiller inline makes sure all water is chilled.. havent turned it on yet to make sure it works.. when I left the led had the temp of the water up to 72. so def a wise invest.. so will runtests to see what it takes to drop the temp

and its all LED here.. im all about the tech.. being an IT guy (bartend/manage on the side) I love everything about growing.. dont really use the crop.. friends do.. I just enjoy the process

hopefully the new meter will be waiting for me when I arrive home tomorrow :)

It's crazy how many of us enjoy the challenge and tech of growing but don't use the product. It's all about the toys!

ble mammoth has sprouted! into the rapid plug she goes!

now hopefully the blue will catch up... just watered the plugs with tap water. im still not sure how to water these buggers before putting Into the pots.. the feed sked for gen hydro says week 1 ad x amount to res.. but they aren't in the res yet... so I believe for the next few days ill just water with tap water.. then mix up some fert water to water them im this tray with.. trial and error right ;)

also got the replacment scrubber in the tent.. its a 4" line which has been decent at keeping the smell down

I've done it a couple of different ways. I'd suggest just water in the plugs until you have good roots showing and the plants have hit a couple of inches tall, then put them in the hydroton deep enough to bury most of the stem. The other way is to transfer them to soil in clear Solo cups to grow them out a bit and monitor root growth. Keep the clear cups inside red ones, drain holes in both. That method is messy because you have to submerge the soil in water to remove most of the soil before putting them in the hydroton, but it's a good way to start a few plants and decide which you want to keep. Either way, you'll have to set the water height to just under the net pots and hand water a couple of times a day. I water only around the plant, not directly on the rooting plug, to keep the hydroton wet and encourage the roots to seek.

the first is what im gonna do.. I dont want to have any soil this round ;p. ive already cursed at it a few times.. you will not show yer face soil! stay in the closet!

You can see how tiny mine were when they first went into the system. I just hand watered morning and night until a few days after roots started popping out of the hydroton. All four survived.

do / did you water with regular water or nute wayer

I was using Cutting Edge Solutions nutrients at 1/3 strength at the time and watered the seedlings right out of the reservoir. I never poured water on the Rapid Rooter, only on the hydroton around the periphery to ensure that it was moist.

Tonight was the big change over... I drained the entire system and started with fresh water to get rid of any 'crud' from the build.. All together the system is around 36gallons. 6g per tote and 18g in the res. I also added a CM scale in the res and it's at 145cm currently (this is more for my ref than anything else ;) as I'll be going back through this as I go along.

Now onto this Monitor. This is the third one and it's still off.. Seeing as I've used this water in my last grow, a ph of 7.8 would never of worked... (would it?) it was a soil grow.. Everywhere I have looked that high of a PH would of locked out things.. maybe it is right.. but I'm 95% sure it's wrong.. 2 ph pens, 2 diff litmus tests all show in the 5.5-6.2 range.. I have an email into the mfg to see what's going on. This monitor also has a USB connector (wireless) that I really would like to use but for $450 I expect something to be accurate. =) I'm planning on taking my water to a petshop this week to test, just to be 100% sure of what my ph is around.

The Linear Airpump is also coming tomorrow or Wednesday and I'll be glad.. this one I have now isn't that loud now that the fans are on, but dang, it gets HOT.

Some other changes I did.. I changed out the double holes lids for single and added the U to make the overflow silent. I also added 2 water alarms.. just to be safe.

Now onto the plants.. 2 have roots!! Following Riders advice.. I'm putting them into the rocks and will water them from the top till they reach the water below. It looks like one of the roots is rotting on the lemon.. but who knows.. I'm not to concerned with that seeing as it was in that tray. The third is pushing up.. just not there yet. So I left it uncovered till it pops its little head out.

As for the water, it's just plain tap water. I'll go with this till probably Friday when I'll then add some CalMag and a mild Flora Series feeding. One thing I must research is what to do after the week after that. Do I have to drain it or do I just top it off and then add more nutrients on top of the old.

Or.. then I'm wondering do I only drain the reservoir (leaving the 18g in the totes) and adding 18g of new nutrient water to the mix.. If anyone has any insight I'd love to hear.. otherwise I'll share my findings as I move along =)

All for tonight! Here are some photos of the finished setup (until the next change!)

Your system is looking great b0rker. It'll do a great job I'm sure.

I don't want to harp about the Guardian, but those readings look about normal for tap water. Mine is 7.4 out of the tap.

When you take your water down to the pet store take the Guardian with you and check it there too. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

I've drained the whole system and replaced with new water and nutes, and I've gone entire veg cycles just adding water and nutes to the system. Both have worked good for me. The latter is much less work and much less expensive. If you choose the latter I'd keep an eye on the monitor, and if it starts to piss around at all, do a complete change at that time.

man.. this blue mammoth strain just wont get past this stage.. putting back onto the heating pad.. ill giv it another day and if still no dice.. im going with another strain.
