Auto Topping LED Grow

Sorry hemi thought you were in soil ... Throw a load of ducktape over the lid I believe it's rather light proof
No problem, as I said it wasn't until I was typing out what was good about my marine cooler DWC that I realized what was wrong with it. She is in a 15 liter bucket now with 3 air stones bubbling all that algae off of her. Then she is going into a clean bucket with fresh nutrients. I had only recent switched to a cooler DWC because the summer heat this year was kicking my butt trying to keep the water cool in 15 liter buckets. With the cooler the temps lock on and stay perfect. This time of year it shouldn't be a problem. :laughtwo:

I have some silver ducting tape that should block it completely and is very reflective as well. I could use the original lid that came with the cooler, but that would raise the height of my netpots so by at least 10 cm. Then I would have to use more water and nutes and would ruin the cooler for any outdoor use. My thought process behind using polystyrene for a lid was that I could have different ones for different purposes. One for growing adult plants, one with smaller holes and netpots for cloning. That kind of thing. Good intentions but almost killed my girl. Amazing how I could hold that polystyrene up to a regular light and see none, but put it in front of a LED and you see this warm pink glow.

Sorry for the off topic question, hope it's OK. One of my autos, which I think to be a Jack Herrer... I am basing this on the narrow 9 finger leaves and the strong lemon smell... is showing about 20-25% amber trichs on all of the main colas. The plants are only about 9.25 weeks old. If they are Jack Herrer, this would be about 2.5 weeks early.
Should I go by the trichomes and harvest, or wait until they are closer to 12 weeks. I do not want couch lock, especially from Jack Herrer.

Just wanted to follow up on this. I found the answer to the question.

hemi best of luck ;)schtiggy I cnt answer that question as I always use my eyes to predict when my buds are done;) will be update day tomorrow for my autos.and today im adding my second 340w led light into the tent.the 900 will be moved to the middle with 1 340w on the left and 1 340w on the right.so will be 3 lights in total in the tent mainly so my young get enough light;) wil be a total of 1600w of full spec led grow light power;) happy growing every1;)

Being the noob that likes to fry my roots with LEDs I would love to hear what you found out. Personally it depends on what I am going for, daytime or nite time meds. I rarely go by length of time, 25% amber for daytime and 50+ for nite time. That's using a 60x loop, I find it much more difficult to be sure with a 30x loop. When really in doubt snip I off a piece of one, quick dry it, and try it for effect. Also, if the main colas are ready there is no reason you can't take them now and do a second harvest later after the lower buds fatten up.
:Namaste:

Hi Hemi,

I spent most of the evening yesterday researching. I read a number of things that said the trichs on the leaves, on many strains, will go amber well before the trichs on the actual buds. Most agreed that it is better to read the buds instead of the leaves. After looking directly into the buds, rather than on the leaves, I found that, sure enough, the trichs on the buds were actually about 90% milky and 10% clear. No amber. This is exactly what I hoped for since the buds are not developed enough. I have one indica that I was going to harvest in 4 days. I put that off for an additional 7 days, and my 2 Jack Herrers are back on their original plan of 18 days from now.

I will have to watch closely since I am looking for specific effects too.

I want the indica for night time and the sativas for daytime so I was really worried that they got away from me.

Good to hear you got it sorted and all is good. I learn something new every day about these plants.

Hi beast , looking good , sonic xtreme is doing well , love how you are braving an early lst mate , are you planing on taking it round the edge of the pot mate.
Also brave with the new xtreme in cheapo soil :goodluck: be interesting to compare it with sonic xtreme .
Dizzy looks nice , how tall , id'e say 30" maybe .
The smoking gun looks like she will have some nice buds .
And that cream devil , tall main stem , i hope she gives you a massive collar .
Group shot looks great as ever , sweet garden mate .
Nice to see you put all the lights in , can't believe the growth on mine .
will update mine on friday
Be safe .

thanks a lot sonic mate defo gna be interesting lol.and arnt sure what im gna do with the lst yet but il think of something lol.tall girls are 3 foot tall mate;)

schtiggy no I removed all bottom growth which was not much on the tall ladies.apart from that I have not trimmed them at all. there not very bushy so no need to trim.light is hitting all budsites well. so the way they look mate is all down to how they have grown.dizzy light was topped.cream devil was not;) smokin gun auto in the middle is very bushy I have to keep trimming her every 3 days to keep buds seeing the light.

I have a Sweet Tooth that I FIM and have LST into a bowl shape, the top canopy is within 1" of each of the other main tops... It's a little bush. I'd say 2"x1.5". I have a 4" wide x 2" deep tent so im only thinking I can get 3 MAYBE 4 max in this area if I train them all to be short bush. 4x4 i'd say same methods I'm using 6-8 plants. Be tight and a bitch to water and move around anything in the tent, but it'd sure be pretty.
