Auto Growers Unite: A Community Thread

A few pics during lights out. The Ice Cools are like the last time I grew it. Extremely sturdy and favoring a single cola. Blueberry Kush has quite a few lower branches so today I started bowl training her to spread her apart. There is already a change in her from the morning when I tied her down. Probably wasn't the best idea to use yellow pipe cleaners on her for LST. It makes her look as if she has a few yellow leafs and that is not the case. They are all green an perfect. Purple Kush, well she is just a runt. Either the genetics aren't that great or its just a bad example. I have one more seed of it. I guess Ill find out on the next grow that should start in July.

Beautiful. They are coming along nicely. Great job

Everybody still recommending dark for two days before pulling? Or something different now?

Everybody still recommending dark for two days before pulling?

Could you please remind me of the science behind this tactic? Has this been the subject of a controlled study? Two days of complete darkness doesn’t occur in nature so I am curious about the validity.

The idea is to stop the input of energy so hydrocarbon production (sugars) stops which forces the plant to use up its limited reserves, these small reserves burn acrid and make the smoke harsher, the argument that many may raise is whether the effect is noticeable or marginal ... tbh i never did it and never did i wish i did ...

Thanks for the explanation Ptero! :Namaste:

I was thinking of the loss of 2 days of light having a negative effect on maturation. But I suppose if the buds are already as ripe as you want, then 2 days of darkness can’t hurt at that point.

Has anyone heard of doing your final watering with boiling water (this also does not usually occur in nature ) and then leaving the plant in the light for several days?
well if ye wanna kill it i guess thats one way to approach it ... tbh ive never heard of that and i cant help but wonder what the benefit is of such a manipulation ...

Supposedly, killing the roots like this immediately deprives the plant of oxygen and nutrients in the media, and the plant goes into fermentation to use up remaining sugars in the growth above ground. From what I understand, the sugars are considered responsible for harsh taste and black ash. The claim is that this tek speeds up curing.
