Ase's Multi-Strain Quadlining In Coco

Day 11 Veg Tent A - Day 36 Flower Tent B

The veg tent is coming along nicely. I am going to have space issues pretty quick here so I need to get some of the fruits and veggies outside by this weekend. I have to till one of my raised beds before that can happen. The other bed I am going to build a teepee for some of my vine veggies. I also need to re secure the plastic scrog net I have for my tomatoes. It was a prize from a former sponsor and I knew I would never use it inside but it works great for outdoors. I'll take some pictures of my outdoor garden once I get it all done.

The flower tent is cruisin along steadily. Starting to see them bulk up a bit. I was looking forward to this as they will spread out a bit more with the added weight. We've hit the halfway point for this grow and from here on out they really start to pack on weight. The colas are already thick so I can only imagine the outcome. The weather is warming up which is also helping the humidity of the flower tent out. Over the winter it stays in the mid 60s for RH. The warmth has dropped that to the mid 50s right now. I'll be griping in a couple months about how hot it is and how I can't get any humidity to save my life so I'll enjoy this perfect weather.

I included a picture of each of the plant's structures. With them starting to pack on weight I won't be able to move them around without the increasing chance of causing damage or breaking a branch. I love the structure of the quadline but I've been getting some really good weights lately and I've thought about adding a silica boost for hardening to the lineup. I may try on the next run for this tent to see if it makes a difference.

White Rhino

Purple Envy
You can see the tri-line in this picture. She ended up being a little triangular in shape but good enough for me. You can see that the quadline ones tend to naturally end up like a rectangle or circle.

Chemdawg

Super Iced Grapefruit

Day 32 Flower Tent B - Day 7 Veg Tent A

All of the seedlings are chugging along nicely and I will have to transplant them into larger pots in a few days. I ordered some 1 gallon hard pots to use for a 3rd transplant this time. I don't want to plant them directly into 3 gallon fabric pots until I know they are female. I think I am going to let all of them grow big enough so I have a good clone with the tops. I'll take that clone and sex them and find out male/female. That way I can get rid of males early on and get the females under that net. It will all happen within a very short time frame. The girlfriend should be taking her 4 CBDreams in 2 weeks and I will also start planting the veggies and fruits outside around then. Get the male ATFs out of there and put the net on and start training. As you can see this won't be my normal timeline of flipping at 42 days, but I want to do this thing right. I'm also re-vegging a bonsai for a friend who gave it to me pretty bare, no greenage. I grew it out already and it had a ton of leaves so in true Ase fashion I defoliated it and clipped a branch to shape it the way I want it to look. I think my friend will be stoked to get it back in a bit with it looking like a savanna tree.

Hard to see the fruits and veggies but the back row of jalapenos and tomatoes has some little ones that just popped up above soil today.

The flower tent is beginning to really start to smell. Starting to get really frosty. I think these will end up being really great quality and a little less yield.

White Rhino the first time I ran it had very dense, chunky bud and this is following suit exactly. I think I remember that it really started to catch up to the size of the other ones mid flower so I expect to see good things out of this girl over the next couple weeks.

Chemdawg is going to be better than my last run. The last stuff was great too so I am pretty stoked. The smell is just so strong and it wasn't that potent the first time I grew it. I wasn't quite in the groove like I am now and was experimenting still so it makes sense.

Purple Envy looks and smells great. Every Purple Envy I see being grown is the same. They are all very even plants and get great stacking and frost. This is such a solid strain.

I could basically say the same thing about the Super Iced Grapefruit as well. Right now she is my best looking girl.

Your day 7 CB Dream is way beyond mine at day 7 - I think I need help?

Your day 7 CB Dream is way beyond mine at day 7 - I think I need help?

This is kind of funny actually. Normally I'd tell you that you should probably find someone who is growing in soil as I am a coco grower. Well the CBDreams are in soil so that point is invalid. In fact I am killing it in soil right now and my coco ones are just starting to really boom. They are 2 days behind but I will have them all in the tent for a couple weeks so I'll see how they do side by side. Really happy with the way the CBDreams look right now though. I kind of surprised myself really. I stopped over to your journal and there are a lot of people giving you help so I will post my thoughts here and you can use your best judgement on what to do.

1. I'd assume already that you have drainage holes poked into the bottom of those solo cups? If not the water will sit in the bottom. I can see they are on a rack and looks like a plastic catch bucket underneath so I'm going to jump to the next one.

2. Why is there water on your plants? I never spray my plants or get water on the leaves. If a plant has water on the leaves then it absorbs that water first which means the roots are not drinking. They also aren't "searching" for water and growing either so the plant above ground doesn't grow either. The most important aspect to a strong plant is a good root base. I really dislike foliar feeding. The light can reflect off the bubbles of water and cause burn. Later on it can cause mold issues. I recommend just regular watering, especially if you haven't done much growing before.

3. I use Royal Gold Kings Mix for my seedlings and plants. Black gold seedling mix is not great. Go to a hydro store and pick up some better soil if possible. If not you can make it work but I don't think you'll be that happy in the end. The perlite in yours looks pretty small and it doesn't seem to be causing much aeration as well. If you look at my pics there are nice chunks. The soil is also loaded with all the things that weed needs to grow specifically.

4. I use a root enhancer like Rapidstart to help in the early stages of root development. It makes a huge difference and is worth every penny.

5. My grow space is dialed in and in optimal condition right now. The weather is perfect and my humidity and temps are perfect as well.

6. I'm not sure how you germinated your plants but I like the baggie method where you can see the root first. Then right into the hole with the taproot down. I sprinkle a little Great White Mycorrhizae in the hole before I do it as well so it's the first thing the roots can touch. It is expensive and you can just use rapidstart if you don't want to spend money on both. In that case just drip a couple drops of raipidstart in the hole instead.

I think mainly you have an overwatering problem and a foliage feeding problem. I don't put a humidity dome over mine or a bag or anything. I probably water them every couple days and just enough to where they feel heavier. When you pick them up and they are dry they will be really light. Add water and pick them up so you can get used to feeling the difference. This experience is key for growing. Picking up your plants and knowing when to water them based on weight is huge and will save you a ton of headache. The good news here is that your plants look fine and I think if you let them dry you should see some growth starting again.

Also my CBDreams came up 2 days before my ATFs did. So they are really day 9 in that picture and not 7.

Really appreciate this advice! The more I read the more I am thinking I am slightly over-watering (the other four look OK) - although all seem to be growing very slowly.

Good to know about the Black Gold. I will be trans planting into Foxfarm FX14000 but I am assuming I should not change anything at this point in time? I have read not to use any nutrients for the first two weeks - should I be using Rapidstart now?

Thanks again

No problem! There are tons of good growers on here and probably a lot that are better at soil but that's my thoughts on the whole deal.

You'll be fine with the Foxfarm and I wouldn't change anything. Just take it as advice for next time! I wouldn't use nutrients for a couple weeks but Rapidstart is an additive. It is there to enhance a part of the grow and root growth is what it is there to enhance. To me that starts the second the root grows. When I germinate I soak the paper towels they germinate in with a Rapidstart and water mix so they are getting it from day one. Even my normal watering before I start adding nutrients (for soil growing) always includes rapidstart. Then once they are in their final pots I start using it just once a week. I would definitely use it in your next watering.

Loving the seedlings and veggies my friend! I saw your posts about rosin a few pages back and wanted to share some of my product from pressing. First picture is Rassberry Hashplant right after I collected and second picture is Holy Grail Kush all nice and pressed out with my fingers for a little slab. Both pressed at 190 F for 2:30

As a soil grower, please allow me to share some advice as it pertains to watering. Overwatering can be very bad. So to avoid that, I recommend anyone growing in soil learn their pot size and weight, not number of days between waterings.

Early on you want the roots to search as much as possible but its slow going with seedlings. In those solo cups (with holes in the bottom) VERY SLOWLY start watering your plant in the solo cup. Don't go fast or you will get run off and you will think its soaked. Go slow and when you think you are going slow enough, go a little slower. Once I are getting a bit of run off.....keep lifting that solo cup up and memorize that weight. (Note....do this to all containers when you water...learn your container's weight as that will be the determining factor of when your plant is ready).

Now that you know what it weighs when its soaked. Leave it be. Let the plant do its thing. In solo cups in soil, I find that its usually 3-4 days sometimes 5 days during the first week or two in the solo cup. Once those roots are really churning, it will drop down to about every other day. When it gets to the point I need to water every day, the plant is ready to up pot. But again, I always pick up the container and feel it relative to the soaked weight. My recommendation is after that first really slow soaking.....you let that container dry almost completely.

One other option to learn your container is to fill up two solo cups with soil. Slow water one of them till its soaked. Now hold the two cups at the same time in opposite hands. Really feel the difference. Let the plants drink at least half the weight in water before you water again. This same method applies to 1 gallon pots, 5 gallon pots, even 10 gallon pots. I grow in 10 gallon pots and I don't water until I lift it up and feel a noticeable weight differences. I know how many days I generally go between waterings....but that can change at different times of the grow. Early in Flower (the first half), my girls chug the water and I have to water in soil and 10 gallon pots about every 4 days....1.5 to 2 gallons of water. In Veg, I could get 6-7 days between waterings. Later in flower, they slow down again and I generally back off the quantity that I water (not so much the frequency)....so instead of 1.5 to 2 gallons, I scale it back to a gallon every 4 days or so. But again, all my decisions are based off the weight of the container.

Overwatering.....especially in veg, early in veg specifically, is gonna really hurt your plants growth. You want the slightly dry periods to cause those roots to really search out the water.

I've always done some defoling... but have never took enough off... now this time is the most I've done so far. It's all main line to the top now
Ive gotta get in and do a deep defol of my love gang. Had to let them get back to good health for about a week though and it shows big time lol

Thanks for chiming in VS! Glad you broke it all down into more bite sized pieces. Hopefully @It's a mystery takes this advice as he is getting help from so many people and everyone is saying different things. I’d highly recommend going with whatever VS says as he is one of the best soil growers on here and flat out one of the best growers here. VS and I think a lot alike too so I know how much he cares about everything he does and the science behind it. Like me, he just wants to see people succeed and if you saw his tent you’d know the proof is in the pudding.

You’ve now heard from both of us how to gauge your watering properly and that’s probably the #1 key to soil growing. Hopefully our advice leads to success for ya!

CK! Do you prefer the more buttery texture as compared to the harder wax? I did my last batch at 220F for about a minute on the press and it was too hard for my liking. I’ve done 190F and it was really buttery but I liked it. Going to try 205F for my last experiment but I have an odd feeling I’ll end up using something like you are doing. Just wanted your feedback or tips if you have any and maybe why you like it that way? Have you done much experimenting with temps and press times?

So I’ve pressed at 225 and get more shatter like you’re talking about. This budder seems a bit cleaner for some reason maybe just me

Lower the temps the higher the terpene retention. More flavor and the end product is easy to use. I find the shatter like consistency is hard to use in my pen. It gets stuck to the sides and stuff before the wax can hit the heat source. I think budder is where it’s at. I will be interested to see how about 205F turns out.

Thanks good to know as I have been getting conflicting advice - but very grateful for all!

Another question ...how far should my LED be from the top of the plant? I have a King Plus 1500w which pulls 260w from the wall. I had it much lower but as I have been reading on it thinking too low - now about 30 inches.

I start at seedling st 30” and let the plant grow into about the 24” inch range in veg. Because I start to train at that height, and my training pulls the plant pretty horizontal, I don’t have to adjust my lights for the rest of veg. If you just let them grow without training you’d need to keep adjusting the lights as they grow and stretch.

I have about 700-750 actual wattage pull in my tents for reference.

Day 16 Veg Tent A - Day 41 Flower Tent B

The flower tent is doing pretty well. Should really start see them bulking up in the next couple weeks. A few of the hairs are beginning to turn amber so the PK boost is on!

The veg tent had the biggest turn around. This morning the tent looked full.

After a long day in the outdoor garden tilling and moving soil the weather was perfect and should be great for the next week. I had to get the fruits and veggies in the ground.

The other fruits and veggies still haven't germinated. I might re-do some to see what is going on. So far all of them of the same kinds have sprouted within a day of each other so maybe these are just going slow. Anyways it was nice to have the tent back to not so cramped. The girlfriend and I chopped and trimmed her harvest down today and it smelt so good. I'm guessing she will hit somewhere near the 2.25-2.5 oz a plant mark. It's way better quality then the stuff I grew for my first attempt. Look forward to making some THC creams with this batch and then some CBD ones with the next batch. Then trying out and seeing the differences each one poses. She will take her CBDreams in a week once her harvest is done drying in her tent. That will give me even more space and will come at a pretty good time.

The CBDreams were stripped of the 1st and 2nd node yesterday. I will be topping them tomorrow. The ATFs will get stripped tomorrow morning and the up-potted to slightly bigger homes shortly after.

Looking great Ase! Nice gardening shots:)

Thanks for all the great info on watering in soil, I’m not new to soil but I’m new to cannabis in soil so thanks @Van Stank I agree about the “getting to know your weight” that’s true in any medium and such a key element in learning not to over water!

Chow for now
