hey i recently brought this

Aqua medic ocean light as i needed a grow lightwhile my plants in veg state and this was going for 100e where brand new ones are going at triple that its a

Aqua Medic Ocean Light 150 Metal Halide Pendant

will it work ?

this is the only information i have on it

- With the bulb (fresh water 5000 K, or in sea water at 13 000 K) and the ceiling mount kit
- warranty 2 years
for lamps dimensions (length, width, height):
1 x 150 W (55 x 24 x 7 cm)

thanks guys

I wouldn't use that bulb... 10k has a lot of green output which is useless to plant growth.... 10k may possibly veg plants but has hardly any red output and will not flower well.... I would recommend getting a Ceramic Metal Halide bulb or get a bulb made for horticulture...

yes you may be able to get your plants to veg, but will it be optimum...nope... will it even achieve standard results...hardly...

To understand this....look up P.A.R. and you will have a better understanding of what lights are needed....

what if i use that and a 45w led panel? at the same time? getting the panel today would it be good to flower with both going?

I think you should read more into what lighting spectrums are required and what successfully will grow MJ.... the 45 watt panels are crap, and don't put out enough photon intensity to do much good from what I have read... they contain 1/2watt or lower chips which will not penetrate the leaves good enough... you need at least 3watt led lights.... Just get the bulbs and lights that are designed for growing plants... tons of very very good info here...check it out..

One of the biggest mistakes new growers can make is buying equipment that they don't need, or that is not designed for marijuana. Research will go a long way and give you desirable results...

Hi mate,
As said you may get growth, but it may not be what you want..
If its not in the right spectrum for growing, which i think theyre different due to light for Aquarious plants, and for the fish..I AM NOT 100%.. IMO if you can, either get a CFL setup, theyre cheap enough?? Or maybe you can do as i did at first, went to a second hand dealer and there were Ballasts, Reflectors and sockets all cheap..Id buy the globe new, or if you kno for sure its had minimal use well then ok..
I got my entire 400w setup for $85.. Even some local Hydroponic stores may have 2nd hand units or even end of stock stuff they will gladly reduce. Im still using my 400w MH and Ballast, Ballasts dated in 96' and theyre fine:)
But im itching for my NEW 600w HPS to fire up.. Pure awsumness this will be i hope:)
Hope all goes well. Lare buddy.. SMOKEMUP;)

Plants can grow under virtually any light. Maybe even christmas lights. So for vegetative growth it is most likely possible for you to use your aquarium bulb but will not get the same growth from other more specialised bulbs made for plants. But hey give it a try and if you find it too long to get anything invest a lil to get a lot more. It sucks to have to wait extra weeks to clone or flower...

Hope this was helpful

Peace

That aquarium bulb would be a great finishing bulb though!!! :) Throw it in the last week or 2 of flowering because most likely it has a higher UV end...

I was looking at 20k bulbs for that reason, but decided for now just to stick with my CMH and HPS combo.

Hey guys! just wanted to update, So its been 3 grows since this post! aqua light is proving pretty good in the end at one point i had it vegging 8 plants at once! i know 150w- 8 plants sounds pretty nonsense but it was :D

Anyway just wanted to thank you all again for the help in my newbie days of growing, without guys like u man kind would never move forward

I knew a guy that wrapped his plant in 3 strings of x-mas lights and set it on a timer 12/12 in his back yard, (in ground) and left the plant under a cardboard box as to never get any outside light.. 57 days later, bud... it was fluffy, but is was the real thing.

The plant looked fine and it did just fine the big fans got withered and the leaves all had signs that the plant was using them up to convert sugars... given he was capable of experimenting without remorse. but hey 3 strings of x-mas lights and he never touched it for almost 8 weeks and it was smoking.....

A metal halide light will veg well. I didn't see any dimensions for your grow area so I can't tell you if that light will be enough. The difference is plant lighting and aquarium lighting is the red spectra. You do not want a lot of red light in tank fixtures because algae grows faster and better in red light.

Greetings All.
My first ever post. Was googling around if aquarium light was ok for use in growing marijuana and was guided to this thread by Dr. Google.
Anyways, recently bought a blue aquarium light, made in China, Roxin RX - 600 15W to support my newly emerged sapling, roughly been 2 weeks since it emerged after I had thrown some seeds I had. Before was just giving it a CFL desk lamp.
Last night added the blue aquarium light and voila a new plant has emerged today.
To add, it's not the season to grow outside now here, am getting only 5 hrs of sunlight but the temp is pleasant. Night time and early morning is cold so I keep them lights on then. When the sun goes down transfer the pot inside.
Plan to set up a small room for them so they continue to grow strong this winter.
Will try to post some photos of the lights I am using and my plan for setting up the new room.
Happy thanksgiving all.
