Hmm - I’ve just been reading about that.

If I use it is would aim to only spray the leaves... and pyrethrum is considered ok in organic gardens here, but that’s the certified organic pyrethrum - as opposed to the synthetic pyrethroids. But our laws are a bit screwy ...

Oh... ;) I reject your analogy :laughtwo:

I’ve now missed the window to foliar this morning. It’s frustrating sometimes. It just wasn’t able to happen this morning, or yesterday. So I think I’ve officially missed the 3 times every 4 days pattern. Today is day 5 since the last weaponised Brix.

The foliar sprays are the most taxing part of the grow so when it goes from once per week or 10days, to every 4days the load on my body escalates pretty quickly. That’s kind of why I’m considering more “nuclear” approaches. I’m just reading about how a pyrethrum spray may effect my beneficial insects and spiders. We dont want to be causing further problems by emliminating our helpers as well! But similarly, the most gentle approaches (manually killing them and regular vigorous spraying) take a good deal of physical engagement I may be needing to make some compromises...

Yeah... I just read that although its one of the most ‘non-toxic to animals’ options, it is toxic to fish and amphibians (are they not animals!?) and will kill beneficial. So it will be a last resort and only spot sprayed if I do use it.

I just physically can’t do what I used to to deal with the problem.

Woody swears by Green Cleaner ... :) Take a look.

Green Cleaner
:thumb: Thanks! Will do... +REPS for the Australian link :Namaste:

Where does it say that it is toxic to amphibians?
I have that link on my iPad lazy and I’m a long way from that now... I’ll drop it in later.

I’m forgetting about it for a minute. I’m a bit stressed about the situation- hence contemplating pesticide... Might buy some of that Green Cleaner, it looks good. Similar to leafwash but less oily perhaps (and hopefully), but it’s very spendy... ($95 for 2oz :hmmmm:)...

meanwhile...

Yeah we have lots of recipes for different things and I used to make them. Chilli and garlic spray etc.

I alreday have too much to manage so I really need a readymade something. Its also possible I may just get the hose on high pressure and blast em off regularly, but that’s a lot to do as well .

@lazyfish here’s tha page which mentions pyrethrum being harmful to fish and amphibians. They dont cite any studies or anything - I haven’t looked further on it.

Hey so I recently found this resource again (thanks to @JustMeds) and wanted to post it here for posterity :D

It’s pretty comprehensive look at the understanding of soil and growing science that high brix farming is based on.

The Ideal Soil

I’ve been thinking about the answer I gave @Archiweedies the other day on what I might estimate my brix at - I think my estimate of around 12 or so might be right for the WW, but the rasied bed is only in the first season of being amended for the correct balances and it can take a while - up to 5 seasons to achieve it. Based on my soil test, Doc told me that my soil was amendable over 2 seasons (which tells me my DIY soil wasn’t too bad) so I have a pretty good chance at decent brix levels this year, but next year will be better, and the following years even more. I’ll probably test every 2 years (so every 2 grows). SO i’D guess its a bit lower in the rasied bed at this point - and those plants seem a bit more tasty to the mites too, which would make sense (lower brix = more vulnerable to pests).

Speaking of mites - I wasn’t able to get into the garden at all yesterday. So the third round of weaponised foliar never happened even close to schedule. All things in my body are a bit stronger this morning tho’ so I’m going now. I’m well fortified on a wake n bake of more of my Haze auto :slide: look at me go! :laughtwo: :surf: Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em all!

I made it! :slide:

3 plants is a lot! Back in bed now.

The light was beautiful in there but i dont take the camera in during a spray session, of course ;). Maybe tomorrow morning can be a camera morning.

Here’s white widow totally dripping and still in the shade of the house. This was after I finished, at 640am :ganjamon:

It’s not as dark as it looks...

And this is looking the other way, past the house to the east, also 640am

I didnt inspect them or anything, just got straight to the foliar so they get the longest possible time before the direct sun hits them.

They all looked pretty great superficially and in the morning twilight and they’ll get an actual inspection later today.

I’m relieved that’s done. Stoney Sunday in bed after that and the week I’ve had. What a doozy!

Speaking of being stoney... I’ve suspected for a while that, being a hash lover, I might have a yet to be discovered soft spot for kush strains. I remember ladyg2 growing some gorgeous Kushy Kush that I loved the look of and i also really liked her description of what it was like to consume.

I’d forgotten that the Sucker Punch I’ve been growing is an auto cross of 2 differnt Kush Strains - pre98 Bubba Kush and Candy Kush according to Auto Seeds, the breeder.

Well, I harvested it the other day and I really liked the tester, it’s like being wrapped in cotton wool
 :meditate:

It has just gone from paper bags into jars at 62% and i’ll pop them open once or twice a day for a week, then once a week for a month. I have about 1.75oz. COnsidering that’s off 2 little sautés that’s pretty low! :laughtwo: but it’s beautiful smoke and will be my private “cotton wool days” stash.

Here’s some of it as it was going from hangin to paper bags ... @InTheShed I got around that trimming thing by not really trimming very much. The little leaves are a bit frosty anyway and i dont mind picking them off as I pull out the little nugs.

I’m about to pull some out - its just right for a day like today. Kush and TV reruns...

It’s pretty airy - I need a spot with more sun for autos - but super sticky and has a sweet flavour with hints of cedar, and lemon cake... I’m toking it right now.

The sweet taste lingers a bit with a menthol like coolness. Awesome! Makes me even more excited about the Bubba Hash i have lined up for indoors this winter.
...and here comes the cotton wool blanket  and then after about 5 mins a lingering post sherbet sensation on my tongue
:hookah:

Hope all your weekends are going great - Sunday morning is a blast! :Namaste:

Update: Critical Mass day 111 (+29)

Despite the continuing mite problem, CM is stacking up the buds nicely.

Keeping up with the water demand is a nearly daily thing. We’ve had super dry weather, and wind etc.

I am ordering some Green Cleaner today, thanks Gray for the tip - and woody for the recommendation (@Norcaliwood :thumb:). The mites are getting the better of me ... o_O so I’m looking forward to nuking ‘em with it and resting a little easier.

I’m confident i’ll get a handle on it and manage to get them all through to the finish.
Critical Mass is providing me with lovely views while I kill the little fookers, leaf by leaf:ganjamon:

During a mite inspection I came accross these  ... smiley faces... are you kidding me?

Stink bug eggs apparently - so I went straight back out and squished them! I’ve never seen stink bugs in the enclosure, sneaky bugger! We get them on the citrus a little bit. I wonder now if their larvae eat mites or something and that’s why they laid there - but I havent looked into that at all. I just saw “stink bugs” and thought “get rid of them!”.

I’ll update the other lovelies in seperate posts over the next day or so. White Widow had a big prune :nervous-guy: and Candida is stretching beautifully.

I’ll leave you with the family shot and go sift throught the Candida photos...

Update: Candida CD-1 day 109 (+15)

There’s some bushfires in the area which is making the light really wild at times. Yesterday while I took these, and the CM photos, the light atmos was great!

There is a small fire close to us but i think they have that under control now. Not so smokey today and the wind is blowing it a way from us mostly. We have thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow so I’m really hoping we get some decent downpour to wet and wash everything... it’s very dry and dusty. And fi. ngers crossed the lightening doesn’t set anything alight! I’m on my own for a few days - I have a bushfire escape kit ready just in case...

Meanwhile, Candida, as you would have noticed in the opening shot, is getting lanky now and stretching well - I’d like it to get a bit taller, but it seems to be slowing down a bit. There’s mite damage all over this one too, and it’s harder to kill them by hand because the leaves are so delicate and tear much more easily than the other plants. So I have to be delicate, which is harder and takes more muscle control... and takes longer ... bring on the Green Cleaner!

Once stretch has stopped I will trim pretty heavily around the bottom and the south side of the plant - which won’t see as much direct sun going forward into Autumn.

I’ve said recently I could do a “dragonfly of the hour” journal with the amount of them we have here. Well... we have more damselflies really - but I’m used to saying dragon .... The damsel flies land on me often, when I’m sitting, when I’m walking, whenever, they like me. This one sat next to me the whole time I worked on pruning the White Widow - very pretty one... on rocket flowers.
