When I first got into the online growing forums about a decade ago there were not very many women out here, but the few that had been around for decades were very well respected, and I came up admiring the female growing pioneers in this world such as Granny Stormcrow and her well known list of strains and the medical uses for them or StinkyAttic who took no crap from anyone until she got busted leading the legalization movement in Mass. When I came in, the old guys who had been growing since the 60's pretty much dominated the conversation and many of these pirate online activists did not like women such as me coming in and acting like we actually knew what we were doing or proclaiming to be as brave as them... growing cannabis seemed to be a mostly male sport for quite a while. It was the guys serving jail time, and seemingly taking all the risks.
I like to think that I helped to change this perception in my years online. There has indeed been and still is a little bit of pushback from some of the guys out there, mostly those who feel challenged by new ideas and not sure how to politely argue with a girl online who proclaims to be an expert. The mood is getting better though, and I don't seem to drive off or make angry nearly as many chauvinists as I routinely did a decade ago... possibly this world has grown up a notch or two since then?
I think over this last year I have seen a huge percentage increase in women now growing and talking about it... we don't all advertise it, for so many reasons... but we are out here. Some ladies simply don't want to argue or participate in "mine is bigger" contests with the guys, and most don't want to be hit on. I think there are a lot more women in the growing world than we realize, either heading up grows or actively participating with their partners. It is my opinion that the natural nurturing abilities of women lend themselves well to the garden, and I would not be surprised to see a day when there are as many talented female gardeners of weeds as there are males, or whatever it is that people identify as these days.

Women Rock.. Plus woman have always been in a garden. Why wouldn't we be amazing Growing ladies. Plus ladies know what ladies want... Should put together a ladies club...
