OZ, nah just utilize a collar to hold trunk. Also tying down in my experiance as long as done early and adjusted regular. Would put some but not much stress on trunk. Once flux is set, its easy. You might need a delicate touch but I reckon it would be awesome.
OZ might have the perfect medium if he is right. Best of both worlds with coco. So dont take my word give it a go :)

Oz iv often wondered how stable a hydro baby is at root level. I don't think it takes that long for them to get a good old grip of there clay pebbles but not sure
 
He he OZ love it :) I think the general fluxing method of training in a flat profile with one bud per limb is going to be a big thing you could possibly do the alphabet :)
 
Coco is great mate but I do need to keep "patting down" around the stem after training and feeds. That said, it's SO good with aeration and drainage :) . I doubt I'll ever grow in anything else :)

Hell I hate to say it but I need some new fun :) Even with my nine I need something new lol my OCD seems to be just plant based he he! I want to try some upsey downsey plants like Ricorico. Probably when I move. I also want to build a 360 planter that rotates for vegging???
Also any other training I can try my hand at :) any ideas welcome lol

La I seen one of those planters
I think it was 280 plant. Like a big cylinder shape fridge with 2 x 400's
And you installed rock wool slabs. It had a water cooling system awsome for the big scale grower
It went through flee bay for a couple grand I think
 
Yeah, I looked at that too mate.....got my "construction juices" flowing lol. When I get my premises sorted I'll do some REAL crazy things lol :). If all goes well with this and my 2nd and 3rd grows then........WATCH MY SPACE lol :)
