Alafornia's 1st Time Multistrain Medical Grow

Unfortunately I have not been able to do much the past 2 days as I am not feeling well. Just awoke from a nap feeling marginally better. My modified plan for today is to eat something after the queasiness lifts and then get the 3x3 and table together and get some updated trich pics (just a few from each). After that, who knows.

I suppose most folks here are wet trimmers?

I'm a wet trimmer, although I've heard dry trimming isn't as sticky...I haven't
done it, though..
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Al ,hopefully it's not something
that hangs on for long.

Hopefully the rest is most of what I need. This past week was somewhat stressful and tiring.

And I don't think much is lost on timing as none of the plants have been in a huge hurry to come down. IOW, they could all use the extra day or two. Just remembered that I likely will need to water any I don't plan on cutting in the next few days, like Nikita, who is still packing it on.

Hope you feel better Al!!

I’ve wet trimmed, I’ve also dry trimmed... I found dry trimming to be a bit easier, because most of it just flakes away as you touch it. but I plan on wet trimming my latest harvest, It’s been a while since I’ve done a good wet trim! :thumb:

Good luck with your trimming Al. I'm a wet trimmer myself have done both prefer the wet as the leaves are all sticking out and easy to trim off. When it's dry the leaves curl in and kinda get stuck to the buds making trimming them off a pain.

I mostly trim dry. Sometimes I start while it’s still hanging - trim and rehang so it kind of happens slowly over the 5 days or so hanging. By the time it’s dry, nearly all of them are just ready to get clipped off into the jars (or paper bags depending on how dry it is).

Sorry to hear your being pushed down by something from the inside - never any fun. I hope things pick up for you soon on that front.

:Namaste:

Praying you feel better, Ala. Something is definitely going coast to coast.
I like wet trim myself. I use the whole plant so I just put a 5 gal clean bucket to catch all my trim so I can make oil/tincture with clean trim. I like my oil at about 10 - 15 mg/ml so trim is good for me.
Are you using lemon juice/baking soda rinse or H2O2 rinse?
I used H2O2 rinse. The buds really do come out nice.
Rest up. Don't start until you are better.

Thanks, N420. I do like easy, ahem, er...efficient.

Thanks. Feeling better already. Do you find the tastes/smells/terpenes better preserved trimming dry? A more even dry? Just curious, as always.

Thanks, Newfun. I just got knocked on my ass for a couple of days.

Since I am less worried about mildew/mold I think I'll go with lemon juice and baking soda to get dog hairs off the buds, but I may just do both for the hell of it.

I feel almost back. I'm going to the eye doctor this morning (to get my sample contacts). After that I'm getting started with the tent and table since I didn't get that done already.

I also figured out that I'll likely be able to fit the small tent into the bigger tent if I need to in order to save space. Plenty of time to decide that.

On watering during veg:

The monster clones after a day, Nikita's clone after 1.5 hours. I show both before watering. We are building some frickin' roots!

I got a ton of pics last night but I'm just posting some this morning. This post will be focused on OG Kush CBD.

I watered everyone in the flower tent, regardless. They were looking pretty dry.

I also had to set the time properly and that caused the lights to go out a bit. When they first come back on they are dim and heavy on the green.

She looks close to being ready.

:bravo: beautiful autumnal fade there.

Part of dry trimming for me, or not trimming at all, is often to do with physical capacity. After harvest I can’t do anything for a couple of days (I mean anything - I’m bedridden for at least a day, sometimes 3 or 4 after a big harvest). Then I get to one or 2 branches a day, or more if the recovery is going well ;).

That said, I do also like to dry things as slow as possible and leaving the leaves hanging around the buds helps to slow things down and also protects the buds/trichomes from damage. With plants that I’ll only be making oil from, I don’t really trim at all. I remove anything without obvious frost and the rest stays - the work is wasted energy and not necessary. Extraneous leaf breaks off in the jars over time.

The super old school way is to rip/cut the whole plant and hang it so it dries as slow as possible. Archiweedies did this recently and is loving it - he even washed them first! Not sure how he managed that

It’s dry where you are. My tip is to remove all non-frosty fanleaves while the plant is still in the pot (can even do this the day before harvest). Then cut, wash and hang the branches. A lot of the time, unless it’s being smoked/vaped - that’s all i have to do.

I will be both making oil and getting what's left into jars for either making more oil or for Tangled to smoke.

Is there a way to quickly dry one or two small buds to test? Asking for a friend.

I'm going to try to put a small portion in the fridge for low and slow. I have paper bags and lots of baking soda to absorb the smell. If I happen to find a used fridge locally then I'll do most or all there. Someone has one cheap on the local FB page if it hasn't sold already and assuming I can get it here.

I hate that it wears you out so badly.

Friends have told me about a few. One i heard of is to use the microwave on lowest setting and 10 seconds at a time only - bud goes in n some kitchen paper and it helps to pull it apart a little bit between goes, or so I’ve heard ;). Usually takes between 4and 6 times, depending on the bud :)

Some folks will put a bud or 2 on top of their light ballast for some hours that works too.

My favourite is to put them on top of the stereo for a day or 2, or a computer that’s a little warm. That works well.

Tent looks good - are you planning to lay them down for drying?
:Namaste:
