AKGramma's Perpetual Grow

pressed nugs:

This harvest was an experiment in making seeds. It succeeded to the detriment of the structure of the unpollinated parts of the flowers. They were airy, but quite sticky.

So, I decide to finger pres them into nugs big enough to fit in a bong. here is what I did.

1) trimmed the stems off of still-wet buds and removed any seeds. You can rehydrate small dried buds, trim from sugar leaves, and shake from buds, too. Anything with trics. If they are sticky, even better!

2) poked enough larfy buds and trim into the corner of a small baggie, till it looked to be the right size. 3/4" - 1"

3) twisted the baggie to force the weed to stick together and shaped it with my fingers

4) gently rolled it out of the baggie into a flat tupperware-style container to dry a bit and hold their shape. I try to get them as close to 65% as possible before jarring. I burp the container as needed until the humidity is close.

5) Put them into their tinted mason jars, labelled the lid with strain, "Pressed buds", and date of jarring

6) Stored them in the bottom back of the refrigerator for at least a month.

This seems to work well for reclaiming the good stuff that fell off the buds or the tiny buds that you find in the lower and inner branches. They aren't pretty, certainly not pretty enough to sell to a shop or dispensary, but they will make your family happy.

I harvested the last of Mama BBL today and put her under soft lighting, hopefully to reveg. This time around, I took the buds off the branches, rather than cut the branches to hang. I think I see some signs of greening along the branches and a teensy bit of leaf buds. So, we shall see.

I now have 3 harvested previously-seeded twiggy plants waiting to reveg. Two were cut back by half, the 3rd, Mama BBL, kept many more of her branches. If I lose the first two, no worries. I have about 250 seeds to replace them with. But I WOULD like Mama BBL to come back.

Today I planted 4 Auto Berry Fem seeds. I just use ordinary jiffy plugs, pre-soaked in plain water, then put in a plastic container under a CFL, placed a couple inches above the soil. I figure I would start something that didn't require a light schedule and was easy to grow. Since they are autos with a touchy tap root, they will go directly into the tall kitchen bins right after sprouting. That will give them 14 inches of tap root room.

Meanwhile, I'll wait out the last flowers on the 48AK to mature, get her harvested, then move a few juveniles into the larger unit. Being mostly Sativas, they are far from ready to switch. I'm still training and pinching them to get some fullness out of them.

Just flipped my Bubblicious a day or 2 ago. Really looking forward to some pictures of your harvest and reveg progress! Where did you get the Autoberry seeds... I grew a few from ...seedsCanada and they were awesome! Thanks for the update AK!

Nothing I harvested from this batch was photoworthy, as most of it was seeded (on purpose). Lots of larfy buds, but I did get small buds that were sticky. I finger-pressed the small ones together to make nugs just big enough for a bong.

This will be the 4rd or 5th attempt at reveg. I keep leaving a little more green, where possible, when I harvest. Maybe this time.

That's where I got my seeds, too. TY for the review. I had one gifted Auto Diesel Berry that grew as fast as bamboo, and one Polar Express that grew like a photo. So, I'm looking forward to watching how these babies grow!

It seems I am always rearranging plants whose needs are constantly changing. I need to move the plants in veg into the larger unit and move the remaining AK 48 in flower to a smaller unit. She has the top third of buds to finish. Everything else has been harvested. Headroom may be a problem, however. Might have to bend the stalks a bit, if they aren't too stiff. She's trying to fill out some decent colas.

I cleaned her up and removed the fan leaves, so the buds would not be shaded out or spoiled by dying leaves. We're very close to the end.

Yesterday I started some Autoberry seeds, and will start he Jock Horror soon.

I really must talk myself into rearranging and not just sitting her thinking about it, like it might do itself!

Well, I finally did it. All the veggies are in the larger (3' x 3') unit, cleaned up, and pruned, with a neem treatment for mites (I saw just a couple still crawling around). So now I see that four of them need up-potting badly, so had to re-activate the smaller unit, fill some 3 gallon bins, water them well, and get the timer going.

I'm finally getting into the soil mix I've had cooking for months in 5 gallon buckets.

I have 4 Auto berry seeds planted in peat plugs, along with 3 Jock Horrors, under a CFL by my PC, so I can keep an eye on them. I plant to set the autos in their big girl pots as soon as their first true leaves show, so the taproot doesn't hit bottom. The Jock Horror is Fem, but not auto, so I can put them in a smaller container while they veg.

Of 6 clones I took a month ago, 4 never rooted and finally withered away. I have two under domes. One is rooted, the Arjan's Haze, so I am acclimating it to room humidity a little at a time. The others that died were taken from flowering ladies, and even tho I trimmed off the mini-flowers and put them under veg, they never rooted, altho they stayed green and dormant for a month before wilt/fungus set in.

The two BBL clones sharing a 5 gallon pot really took off. I think they did better and stayed healthier sharing a pot. I don't have the room for anything larger than 5 gallon pots, but I may double up with one or two more. They are half the height of the bins, and will be good for the sativas, which tend to go right up to the lights.

Drive by.. You know once pollen hits that pistil, all the plant's energy stops the flower mode, and start the seed manufacturing. I'm sorry I'm not total current here on your journal, but if you want to make seed just pollinate a lower flower with a q-tip then I cover it with a white paper envelope stapled closed around the stem for acouple days.. Then uncover and spray with water. Water will kill off the pollen. Label the bud of the parenting. I've messed up here before...You can do how ever many different males pollen you have on a single female. But if your going to do the whole plant, it's best to wait till week 4 or 5, which still give plenty of time for seed, but still has buds of size. Looking forward to seeing the next grow.... A Little secret, I don't post bad pictures either. But the next will be loud and proud... Keepem Green

WHOAAAAAH!!! A little over two hours since I looked, and an Auto Berry broke soil!!!!! A nice, strong seedling. If I watch it, I bet I can see it unfold!

:cheertwo:

By 5:20, the cotyledons had cleared the soil
By 6:10 the emerging sprout was at a 90 degree angle and its cotyledons filling out
By 11:00 the true leaves were already emerging.
By Midnight, the baby was fully upright and drinking in the light!

I thought it would be interesting to time the sprouting process.

Holy cow!!! That's straight crazy. Must be fun to watch.

Another little sister joined her this morning. The first one's taproot went out of the peat plug sideways and is headed right for the bottom of the tray! I have to put both of them in their big-girl pots tonight, so the taproots don't hit bottom. Both are Autos.

Looking forward to you getting your camera fixed!!! :).

Congrats on the new additions

The camera was never broken. ;-) here are the pics of the two newborns.

First one shows the first sister (Autoberry Fem) with her taproot going outside the peat pellet!

I cut the bottom out of two solo cups and split them up one side for easy removal later on. Their purpose is to confine the water to their roots and not scattered all over the bins until they grow more roots. But without a bottom, the taproots won't hit bottom anytime soon. Toothpicks are what I used to identify the Autoberrys from the Jock Horrors. But each will get its own label when I am done with this post.

In this pic, I show a clip-on pair of 23W CFLs right down on the babies. This pair will stay on 24 hours a day until the babies have a few leaves, then I will gradually switch them back to 16/8. I am trying to prevent the seedling stretch.

My first Jock Horror (Fem) cleared the soil this morning! And I see the tiniest bit of stem emerging from the third Autoberry! I expect both to be ready for potting tonight, if they emerge as quickly at the first two.

:cheertwo:

The first two babies survived their first night in their big-girl pots. I placed soda bottle tops over them as humidity domes, so the extra heat in the grow room would not dessicate them.

It's amazing how just 10 degrees rise in outside temps would make the same difference inside, in spite of all the fans I have going, and the grow room door open. My ventilation is recycled by necessity. Too early to open the window and activate the window fans for exhaust.

The third Autoberry got planted like the first two that popped, and the Jock Horror got planted in just a 16 oz solo cup, as the taproot is not an issue with non-autos.

When I relocated the veggies to the bigger "tent", I noticed that two clones I had left in solo cups for two months were screaming to be up-potted. I'd had to water them every day at this point. So I put them directly into their final pots. This morning I saw noticeable growth, and they greened up nicely.

I learned something here, that might save me time. I can grow non-autos in solo cups for a couple months, then put them right into the final pots. I don't have to mess with interim pots, unless I really need to conserve space.

I also notice that there is a positive difference with doubled-up plants in 5 gallon pots, as compared to planting them singly in 3 gallon bins. These took off very quickly. Maybe they like company! And it DOES save space in a big way.

With the autos, just as soon as the seedling are upright, and now knowing the taproot is so long, even at this point, I plant them in the solo cup collar in their final pots. I put a soda bottle top as a dome over each new transplant for a day, just to allow it to get used to the lights. They seem to like the LEDs mixed with CFL combination. I did clip some CFLs down close to the babies so they don't stretch.

Am waiting on 2 JH's and one Autoberry to pop, then the seedling container will be empty, but I'll have two full shelving units filled with Veg.

4 hours later: Another Jock Horror has just poked an elbow out of the soil! :cheertwo:

Hmmm.. accidentally thanked you for that post and it won't unthank- so I guess you get to keep it. Thanks for being yourself. :thumb:
Did you ever see any promise in that SNS stuff? Just curious. I've given 3 and 1/2 boxes of SNS products away now. Never heard back from anyone whether the stuff got used or whether it seems like it might work. Sue must have lots of it and she's got mites still, so maybe not.

I appreciate your feedback, no matter which button you push, WC! It encourages me that you are still visiting my little grow now and then. ;)

I haven't dipped into the SNS stuff yet, because I still have a lot of my other formulas, and I seem to have the mites under control. Because the SNS is the good stuff, I'm saving it for a really bad infestation. :thanks:

Yeah I lurk on a lot of threads but often don't post for some reason. Maybe have too many subscriptions going... ? last I checked it was over 1300- mostly not active much thank god. I unsubscribe to threads as often as possible.
Good to know you have an arsenal for the mites. Crazy things.
They can be eradicated though. End of story. I did it and many others have too.

Morning AK how are things going down south:-). Looking like you have been staying pretty busy in your garden, awesome!
We are still hanging in there but way ready for this winter stuff to be over and done with. The added daylight is a plus, not having the moon out at 2 in the afternoon gets our spirts up....... need some heat from that sunlight though lol. We were down in your neck of the woods last week for Mrs Dr. appointment and holly crap, what happened to the roads? The roads were worse in Anchorage and like the plows don't get used on the roads. Every intersection was a nightmare in a rental car and the ruts were just nasty. Have to say that was the first time the roads were so bad I didn't want to drive on them.

Hope all is well with you and yours our friend, we will be back down your way in a few weeks for surgery for a few days. Put in a good word for us to the snow removal crews hey, lol , us little town folks have a hard enough time dealing with that traffic so we don't need huge ruts to make it worse :-)

Blessed Buds to you and be well :passitleft:
