AKGramma's Perpetual Grow

The new baby Bubbelicious is 3 days old now and its first pair of real leaves are twice as big as the cotyledons. It has not stretched, so the light is close enough. I gently wiggle it with a fingernail now and then to toughen up the stem, since I don't want a fan near my workspace. I will post a pic when the second pair come in. The leaves are certainly Indica looking, short, rounded, flat, and wrinkled, not long, pointy, and folded up like the sativas were.

OGK nugs are hanging from a shelf with a fan on low. Used clothes pins to fasten to the wire shelving and covered with black fabric to keep light out. I expect these to take a bit longer to dry than my previous harvests, because they are the biggest so far, and that is after taking them 2 weeks early due to another appearance of the Borg Mites.

Day 5: Baby BBL has just shown its second pair of leaves, almost too small to photograph. Seems to be slower than other seedlings I've seen in other journals.

OGK nugs dried down to 40% and they weighed 9.8 g. I am rehydrating them in a mason jar with 2 humidipaks and a damp paper towel. As soon as the hygrometer hits 60%, I'll take out the paper towel and seal the jar.

3 out of 4 remaining clones are showing new growth, but very slowly. I probably will lose the other one soon. They are open to the air, now that they are 15 days old.

Day 10: BBL #1's second set of leaves are now big enough to show off. She seems kind of slow to me, compared to others I've seen in the journals. It also seems a bit pale. It's under a 23W Daylight CFL, so can't be light burn. The cotyledons started dying as soon as the second pair of real leaves started showing.

Total weight of OG Kush buds after the third harvest (off one plant) is just over 17g. There is one more batch of small buds, which I'll harvest today, because the branches are desiccating, so the lady has given me all she had. Predicting a couple more grams dry from the last cut. Just small airy popcorns, for shake.

What is left of the OGK is not healthy enough to try and reveg. It's pretty much a dying bundle of sticks. I've tried revegging 3 times and failed. I'm not going to waste my time with this one.

OGK Clones look like hell. I've been taking them from the other lady under flower, but I think the lower branches are too woody to root. Lost two today, and am expecting another death tomorrow. Nothing trimmed off the ladies in flower is worth the trouble to try and clone. I will have to take them from the one healthy lady in veg.

Working on a theory here. Chime in if you disagree OR agree.

When I left the light on 24 hours, the growth of BBL #1 seemed to slow dramatically. The first time I gave it a period of lights out (approx 8 hours), I saw a dramatic change in leaf growth. The theory is that cannibus, like other plants, needs a dark period in which to grow, using what it stored during the day for energy.

14 Days old and I discovered tiny white spots on my baby BBL! Flipped it over and lo-and-behold, a freshly hatched colony of Borg Spider Mites! It got a thorough spray-down of a pyrethium-based pest killer. I also sprayed the soil and all surfaces around the baby.

It's a good thing I decided to keep it under a light by my computer, so I can keep an eye on it, or I would have had another infestation in the veg tent! I visit the ladies in the grow room daily, and inspect them every other day.

Since my last two clones are basically green sticks, I'm going to try to air-layer a branch off the motherplant, who is OG Kush - sativa ancestry. The two juveniles I have off her are languishing, but still alive. Hoping that they will perk up as the days get longer here, and the ambient energy (chi?) increases. It's like they're resting, in spite of weekly doses of nutes. I'd like to get them up to size before switching to flower.

While doing research for air layering, I came across a good site that describes cloning cannibus in plain water. So I selected some over-crowded branches from the motherplant and stuck them in a glass of tap water. I covered the glass to keep out light and put them in subdued light. Now I just have to wait and monitor the water level.

Day 17, 4th pair of real leaves appeared. The most interesting development is the huge number of roots already filling the 18 oz cup from bottom to top. It looks like the roots went all the way to the bottom and then started going up. I guess BUbbelicious likes a lot of roots space! I'll be sure and give it a big pot at transplant.

Day 17 for BBL#1. Decided to plant 2 more BBL's and one mystery seed. Note that I used soda pop bottle tops for seedling caps. I save the bottoms for cloning by soil. White stuff is paper towel squares to cover the drainage hole.

You have some peculiar ways of doing things, but whatever works to get to the end product :goodjob:

You can see the spider mite damage, hope you get rid of them.

Yep. Killed the mites as soon as I spotted them. I check the seedling every day, and overnight they had shown up and munched the second set of leaves before I sprayed them.

My methods may be peculiar, but they are cheap. :Namaste:

Just showing you all how simple I go for veg areas. This is a 4-shelf black wire shelving unit 36" x 15" x 60". I used only 3 shelves, and divided the space into a smaller one above for babies and a larger lower chamber for juveniles. It's covered with poly tarp, and I will clip a black sheet over it all to hide the glow of the lights. I decide to go with two flaps, instead of wrestling with one larger flap every time I need to take care of the plants. Total cost, not including light bar and binder clips is about $45.

I will use clip-on utility lamps in the lower chamber with socket doublers for the CFLs when the plants get too big for the upper shelf. I leave the top uncovered to let the heat out, and have had no need for reflectors with these small spaces.

I use a mix of soft white and daylight spectrums.

I guess I could have cleaned out the crap I have stored before I took the pics, but I'm not posing for Good Housekeeping! LOL! This is the third MMJ unit I have in the room, 1 each for veg of 2 different strains and 1 in the closet for flower.

Day 20: BBL #1 is starting to grow something besides roots. Its 4 pairs of leaves are starting to get bigger. A relative and I were discussing the decreased vigor of my OG Kush-sativa clones and she suggested that I cross a male BBL with one of the remaining female OG's.

The OG Kush ancestry is chemdog x thai lemon x pakistani. I wonder what I'm going to get should a breeding with a male bubbelicious be successful. Any ideas?

Day 22: BBL#1 is near a small (4") fan, toughening up its stem. BBL#2 poked its head above soil yesterday and is already forming its first pair of real leaves. It is sharing #1's fan. I thought I'd get a head start on toughening its stem up.

No sign of life yet for BBL#3 and the Mystery seed. They are still under the moisture caps (Top half of cola bottles).

I Googled Bubblegum x OG Kush and read what I can expect from a future cross. If I am lucky, I'll get the best of both: Sativa and Indica effects, with an Indica phenotype. Hopefully the cross will shorten the flowering period. Yes, I am expecting at least one male out of the BBL seeds. I am prepared to collect the male pollen and freeze it for later use. I hope that one of the 3 BBL's will be male. Not very many people on this site say that. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Are u growing bomb seeds bubbelicious?

Nevermind.. Lol.. See u got 10 free mystery seeds.. I think i know what seedbank u got them from.. Sorry

There are a couple of 420 sponsors who offer free seeds. I went with Nirvana Seeds.

I'm a newbie, but so far we've had great results getting our girls dancing in the wind right from day one.
