Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - Perpetual

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

G13xGB.4G, G13xGB.4H, BD.5T, and L.4G have left the garden. Of those marked for removal, that leaves just one still here - MTP.1F.

I have added BBX.2H, GDP.2A, GDP.2B, GDP.2C, MTP.1F, MTP.1G, L.5A, L.5B, and L.5C to the gifting list. I do not need them. I should be able to gift them all soon.

In addition, since TRN.1A is stable, TRN can go back to the person who gave her to me. I was supposed to grow her into a mom and clone her to death, but my veg space is so limited I can't get very big. With seed plants coming I need to 'clear the decks'. She's out of her funk and doing well with 8 good tops, so it's time to give her back.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

G13xGB.3P and G13xGB.3Q (G13 x God Bud) are in a 10 day flush now. I expect to harvest a week from Saturday I believe. BBX.1G and BBX.1J (Big Bud x Blue Magoo) are just a week behind, so they are H-17 (last week of feed gets subtly lightened) and should harvest on the 28th, give or take a day. The last two are mismatched: BBX.2A (Big Bud x Blue Magoo) and L.3A (Lavender Indica).

It looks like behind them, I should have a pair of Matanuskan Thunderf. (MTP), followed by a pair of Grandaddy Purps (GDP), then maybe another pair of GDP or maybe some Lavender Indica (L).

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Woohoo! After 6 days in the Oasis cubes, one of the Afghan Hindu Kush (AHK) has broken the surface!

20110513Aber-01.jpg

I'm very happy, mostly because that tells me my technique is OK. I was a bit worried that they would never come up. I am going to assume that the other two (1 AHK, 1 SLH) will follow in the next few days.

I also took a few pictures of everything else. I'll try to get more/better ones this weekend.

congrats on the first seed poppin.
More to come, no doubt :thumb:

I think you are right. When I read your post I took a look and in fact the other Afghani Hindu Kush popped through the surface and grew 1/2" in the last 14 hours. Woot! Now I just need the Super Lemon Haze to pop and keep them all alive. I'm excited! :slide:

I would throw up some pics, but like a dolt I left the camera at work.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

The plants listed in the report below are all "new" from clones that had rooted (or at least were showing healthy growth with multiple new nodes). There were only two other cuttings in that dome, and they were rejected as too weak. I have what I need. So that tray is now empty, freeing up space for 24 new cuttings. The other tray holds 9 each of Grandaddy Purps and Matanuskan Thunderf, plus the three seed starts in their Oasis cubes.

I hope to clone tomorrow night. I also want to transplant a couple of plants into 9 gal pots.

And spray for bugs. That is only a preventative - I have been watching carefully, but other than a few ants, nothing. No spider mites so far. And the ants are being dealt with by spraying the foundation outside the building. Works for a month or two every time. Remember - ants farm aphids like we grow pigs, and aphids suck. Ants aren't a direct threat, but they are a danger nevertheless. I know there are insects that are beneficial, but until I release something specifically, no bugs of any type are permitted. I'm usually non-violent to a fault, but I make an exception for bugs. "No admittance, no mercy" is the policy here in Abby's Garden. No insects, no arachnids, no animal of any type without management's approval. And 'they' never approve. ;)

Because all the new transplants are still quite wet they will sit out this session.

The oldest two bloomers, G13xGB.3P & G13xGB.3Q (G13 x God Bud), harvest this weekend. The next two oldest, BBX.1G & BBX.1J (Big Bud x Blue Magoo), go into flush on Thursday. The last two in bloom still have a month to go.

I've decided to put in the huge Matanuskan Thunderf mother, "MTP", to replace this weekend's harvest girls along with a 2' MTP clone.

I harvested G13xGB.3P and G13xGB.3Q, but the volume will be low. I never got around to trimming the bottoms up well, and there was a lot of pocorn crap on the lower half of the plants. I basically cherry-picked the best tops and the rest gets hashed.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

The SLH seed still isn't up. I'm considering an exploratory.

I've been back to work on "Grow - Phase Two: The New Bloom Room". :bong:

When using a camera I always find it hard to get back far enough in any room to get a good feel for the space.I assume it's lack of knowledge or lens. This is the best I could do to convey the height of the room.

20110522Aber-01.jpg

That pic shows the only corner that has only had a single pass with the plaster. I filled the holes and cracks. In the rest I have done a second pass, wherein I have taped the seams, embedded the tape, and given the rest a second swipe. I have not yet started on the corners, except where the biggest gaps are, which I have been building up here and there. You can see the difference between 1 pass (right) and 2 passes (left) in this one:

20110522Aber-02.jpg

And here's a shot of beautiful veg. The big girl in the lower left foreground and one of the biggest on the right end of the table will hopefully get transplanted, staked, and tossed into bloom. They are both Matanuskan Thunderf (MTP).

Healthy lunch, eh? ;)

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

I hate sanding drywall.
cool thing about that pic is the drywall seams show how tall it is (10 feet?)

The veg room has never looked better!

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Thanks for the canopy comment. It does look like a rather nice table-full at the moment. You should see it up close in 3D. I wish there was a secure and safe place to upload video to link to from here. Youtube requires ID and I'm not down with that for posting this kind of stuff. I may be state-legal, but there are other possible avenues of jeopardy we are all still exposed to. Grrr.

As for the drywall, I'm going to do a quick-and-dirty sand job (like 15 minutes for the whole room). And one more quick beauty pass with a wide blade. Then another super-quick sanding and it's paint time. It's a hair over 9' high. My plants have never been over about 6', so I'll have room for the big plants I like to grow.

That said, I'm thinking I should reduce the height of my plants anyway. If I don't cut out a lot on the lower half it just gets shaded out and steals from the crown reducing my yield. The lower half of the G13 x God Bud plants I just harvested Saturday probably had 1/2 lb of bud, but it was all small and airy and useless except for hash. I like smoking fat doobies, so I like kind buds, thanks. So it has occurred to me that if I can reduce the overall height I might get a better canopy without as much pruning. Heavens knows I don't have time to scrog, or I would. I barely find the time to stake up the plants.

A friend is using screen in 2'-3' squares. The gaps are about 3" across. He puts 4 poles in at the edges of the pot, and then lays the screen flat on the top of the plant and ties it to the poles right after they go into bloom. Then when they are almost topped out on height he puts a second screen above that. When the buds start to fill out he removes the stakes and the screens are supported by the plant itself. It holds everything up and it makes for an even canopy and a simple harvest.

My problem is I'm not really good at even seeing when a plant has slowed blooming. I guess I don't spend enough time looking at them. I feed, check for bugs, and sprint to bed so I can get some decent sleep. Running this garden is like a part time job on top of my full time job. Sometimes my wife misses me. That's no good. But she wants to keep it going because she sees how much it helps. I'm hoping to add more automation, but doing anything like that seems like a bad idea right before a huge reworking of the garden space. Everything gets moved, upgraded, and/or replaced in the next few months, so very little is going to carry over quite as-is. But the automation and other changes are intended primarily to save time. If nothing else, no longer having to fill the res or carry buckets out back will save me loads of time.

The other thing that saves time is not getting so high that I lose track of what I was doing. Or start rambling.

:tokin:

I better get back to feeding the plants...

:peace:

Edit: Holy crap; that tokin' emoticon is so me.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Because it has been 16 days since it went into the Oasis cube, I dug into the cube that holds the SLH seed. I think I planted it too deep and it was struggling to get out. I cracked the soil around it gently and though I exposed some of it, I did not visibly damage or displace anything. I replaced everything and then I shaved down the surface above it until it was just above the seed head. It will likely die, but this is it's best chance I think. There are 4 more.

The AHKs are 2" tall and spindly with a tight little rosette of the two round leaves, then the first true leaves. They don't have enough light. I moved the dome right up to the light. I need a different home for them. Turns out piggy backing on the clone domes is problematic. The humidity is great, but the spray solution and light requirements appear to be too different. Of course, most of you probably already knew this, right? I'm going to hit every pothole in the process of learning to start from seed, aren't I ;) C'est la vie.

MTP.1H has died.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

So the trimmers thought they saw bugs on the leaves of the last two plants I harvested. I checked them as I dismantled them. I have spent a good 6 hours over the last 3 days looking for bugs in what is still in the garden. I've eyeballed top and bottom of a huge sample of leaves taken from likely places. If I see anything amiss at all I look with a 60x scope, sometimes turned up to 100x. I'm pretty good at doing an even and thorough sweep of a leaf. Nothing at all. Nothing moving. No eggs. And outside of the occasional light burn or leaves abandoned for various reasons unrelated to bugs, I see nothing.

I could be blind, but I've seen them before, so I know what to look for. But just in case I'm too high to see straight and don't know it, I'm going to try to get my mentor over here to look. I don't know what to say. Bugs aren't the end of the world, and I'm not too big to say I've had my share. But I just don't see any. At all. 🤷

The youngest bloomers just hit 30 days and transitioned to the late bloom recipe. Veg is down to two groups now. I need to get two new girls into bloom, but I need to transplant first, and it looks like it'll have to wait until this weekend. So I'll take two down, and put four in together, I hope.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

I just had an epiphany.

To maintain my clones until they root, I keep them in a tall dome right under a 20W floro tube, and I mist them with a very light nutrient mixture. I also mist the inside surface of the dome to help maintain humidity.

It just hit me that for all the time I've been doing this journal I've been misting the domes with the nutrient mist. The nutrients are staying on the surface when the water evaporates making the dome dirty. Those nutes probably weren't making it to a clone either. Doh! I have another mister with distilled water in it. I'll start using it to mist the dome instead.

Nutes are for plants, not for plastic humidity domes. :tokin:

ATTN; marijuana may affect the thought process... we all do similar things, probably because were all blazed while workin in our gardens..
i.e. i released ladybugs to help with gnats and whatever else may have been in my garden... anyways, i released like a good half of the cup they came in, it claims 1500+ so i assume i let around 4-500 in my veg tent. my light isnt vented in there so needless to say the next day i had about 450 dead ladybugs inside my reflector.. what a waste of money

L.4M has failed.

Yeah. My weakness is that I space out and waste huge amounts of time when I get high. Feeding can take hours. I get so lost in the stream of thought.

Like tonight. 3 hours, lol. Pretty bad considering I didn't even have to feed 17 plants I fed last time.
