Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - Perpetual

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Actually, it's an obsession right now. Growing I mean. It's fascinating. I have so much I want to investigate, so much I want to try for myself. Growing has long term potential as a hobby. Growing, learning their quirks, trying new strains, breeding, and of course - getting ripped on good organic self grown bud.

Thanks for making me feel like I fit in. There's a lot of nice friendly people here.

You're not an aberration here bro, LOL!

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Hey man great grow as usual sorry to hear about such high temps a little earlier I hope you don't see fluffier less dense buds because of heat damage.

It's good that you got ac unit although a 2 ton might have been a little over kill for that small of a space but hah I'm in HVAC and I understand the want to be able to over cool a space.

Can I ask you where your pulling air into the ac unit from? also where are you exhausting air from the grow room to?

Also are those cool tubes connected to the back of the ac unit? I cant tell if they are or not in the picture.

If they aren't connected than where are you exhausting and pulling air from for the cooltubes.

Sorry for so many questions I was just asking to see if I can help you get your temps down I have had a lot of experience with heating and air and exhaust systems.

You have a really great grow setup btw and I am glad you are sharing it with all of us I am definitely pulling up a chair to this one.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

The air is drawn in through 2 parallel 6" ducts. Each has a 6" inline fan right as it enters the top of the box that surrounds the hot side. Then there are 2 more 6" ducts coming out the back to exhaust the hot air. I used rigid ducting where I could. The incoming air is drawn in through an eave vent. One exhaust is ducted to a roof jack (vent) and the other dumps right into the face of the big attic exhaust fan so that it is push out of the attic ASAP.

The ducting could be optimized (both exhausts to roof jacks, and all of them insulated) But it pretty much draws ambient outside air in and vents it back out much higher up. I'm also still trying to decide how to handle condensation. Right now it drains acceptably, but I really need to do something more durable.

As far as it being overkill, I'm having second thoughts. On days like the last few 103-105F it is barely able to keep the temps under control. They are fine, but the AC runs most of the time. Once the temps drop, I suspect it will run a lot less. It's certainly doing the job in any case.

Thanks for the interest - I can always use pointers.

1. Pre-flush: 1/2 gal.
   Per gal:
	 1 T liquid bone meal
   pH 6.24 @ 23.2 C

2. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
	 2 t Soil Nute
	 2 t PGE
	 3 t Notrazyme
	 1 oz yucca
	 1 T Biggest Bloom
	 1 T liquid bone meal
	 1 oz Amino Blast
	 1 T Bioactive

	 1 t Companion
	 1 t Bt-i
   Watered down to 1300 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.20 @ 23.0 C

The KK is just about down. It's taking forever, but on the flip side, we are talking 12-13 week sativa here. It's not begging to be pulled yet, so it's just getting better IMO.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

No everything looks great the only change I would make is I would run the cooltubes with seperate exhausts and intakes than the main air circulation system. Eaves are the perfect place to exhaust air.

Going hard this time. The veg is mostly suffering for the benefit of MTO1 & MTO2, which are competing for the KK slot in the bloom room. The last of the KK's been in the dryer for 2 days now, but I want a little more before I bloom, so these two are duking it out, neck and neck.

Bloom is at the usual ceiling ppm of 1400, but if they do OK here I'm going higher. Especially the two in the back. They are getting huge. The heat does not seem to have hurt them. They are breaking out in pistils everywhere. Holy crap.

By the way, the first bit of KK already came out of the dryer. We harvested over 10 days, from 7/23 to 8/1, which would be 11wk+2d thru 12wk+4d for that plant. It's a sativa, and I wanted to see where the sweet spot is. I tasted it, and although it needs some cure to lose the edge, it's great already. A head-rush on the first hit every time. This has not happened to me in a couple years. I'm grinning.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but it's no rest for the wicked lately and I've been pushing it just taking care of the plants. I'll post some pics soon - I promise. They are all blooming nicely.

Code:

1. Feed: Wet to saturation.
   Per gal:
1.0 T Pure Blend Pro Grow
	  .5 t Companion
   910 ppm, pH 6.19 @ 23.2 C

   pH 6.20 @ 23.1 C

2. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
	 2 t Soil Nute
	 2 t PGE
	 3 t Notrazyme

	 1 t Companion
   Dilute to 1200 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.25 @ 23.0 C

The MTOs in veg need to be transplanted ASAP and the more mature plants are firmly on a 2 day feed cycle now (the rest are at 3 or so). They are going nuts!

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

OK, so I'm awake and can't sleep here are some pics I took. :smokin:

Here's a bit of the POG2 in a jar. Mmmmmmmm!

SS854774-pog2.JPG

Then a shot into the bloom room. 2 more days and that dryer comes out of there. There will be a lot more room then:

SS854776-bloom.JPG

Here is a closer shot of OC5 (Orange Crush). She is forming some nice bud already. I understand she'll go 75 days, and she's only at 36 now:

SS854788-oc5.JPG

And then a left-to-right pan of the room from the near right corner. I tried stitching these but they didn't go together for some reason and I only got fragments. So here they are anyway:

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I like that picture. It's my new desktop wallpaper.

MTO1 and MTO2 are trying to wilt in a day. They have clearly overgrown their bags, so I will transplant them to 7 gallon bags, with Bigfoot, myco, and companion in balanced water. While I'm at it, all the little cut-lings can be promoted from their 3.5" pots to bags.

Code:
--> OC5, MTN1:
1. Pre-flush: 1/2 gal.
   Per gal:
	 1 T liquid bone meal
   pH 6.22 @ 21.7 C

2. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
	 2 t Soil Nute
	 2 t PGE
	 3 t Notrazyme
	 1 oz yucca
	 1 T Biggest Bloom
	 1 T liquid bone meal
	 2 t Feather Tea
	 1 oz Amino Blast
	1/2 t Carbon sweet
	 1 t Cal-Mag
         1 T Calcium Syrup
	 1 t Companion
   Add Bioactive to 1300 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.18 @ 20.5 C

:peace:

Edit: I ran out of soil mix. I had enough for the critical MTOs. I'll get the ingredients and mix up a batch soon.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Man things are really starting to look like a profesional setup in there. I would recomend switching to a continuous sog op with multiple trays that would allow you to harvest evry two weeks and you wouldnt use any more power. I can find the link to Al B Fuct's method if your interested at all.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

The cutlings are still going to have to wait. They'll be fine as long as I feed them daily. It takes time and space to mix up 50 gal of soil.

Meanwhile, I am going to do a simple experiment. OC1 and OC3 are very much alike. They went into bloom 2 days apart (7/14 & 7/16) and are the same in all respects. Size, vigor, pot size, history, number of tops are all similar. I am going to feed OC1 the PBP Bloom formula, with a few additives. We shall compare at harvest. Therefore:
Code:
--> Cutlings:
1. Water to saturation, pH 6.22 @ 19.9 C

--> MTO1, MTO2 (both *VEG*):
1. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
1.0 T Pure Blend Pro Grow
	  .5 t Companion
   825 ppm, pH 6.19 @ 21.0 C
Code:
--> OC3, MTN2:
1. Pre-flush: 1/2 gal.
   Per gal:
	 1 T liquid bone meal
   pH 6.19 @ 21.2 C

2. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
	 2 t Soil Nute
	 2 t PGE
	 3 t Notrazyme
	 1 oz yucca
	 2 t Biggest Bloom
	 2 t liquid bone meal
	 2 t Feather Tea
	 1 oz Amino Blast
	1/2 t Carbon sweet
	 1 t Cal-Mag
         1 T Calcium Syrup
	 1 t Companion
   Dilute to 1180 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.24 @ 20.2 C
Code:
--> OC1:
1. Feed: 1.5 gal.
   Total for 1.5 gal:
3 T Pure Blend Pro Bloom (1-4-5, soil and coco formula)
	1.5 oz yucca
	1.5 oz Amino Blast
	 1 t Carbon sweet
        1.5 T Calcium Syrup
	1.5 t Companion
   Dilute to 1180 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.24 @ 21.2 C

I got that great big dryer out of there. Won't need it for another 5 1/2 weeks or more and I could use the space. Much nicer.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Code:
--> OC5, MTN1:
1. Pre-flush: 1/2 gal.
   Per gal:
	 1 T liquid bone meal
   pH 6.20 @ 23.3 C

2. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
	 2 t Soil Nute
	 2 t PGE
	 3 t Notrazyme
	 1 oz yucca
	 2 t Biggest Bloom

	1/2 t Carbon sweet
	 1 t Cal-Mag
         1 T Calcium Syrup
	 1 t Companion
Diluted from 1440 ppm to 1340 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.24 @ 23.3 C

So I upgraded my res today. No, not hydro yet. But I have a garbage can full of water with bubblers in the bottom. I try to let the water sit for at least 24 hours before I use it. I had a 32 gal can. Now I have a 44 gal Brute. I put standoffs under the lid so it wont snap shut and it breathes better. I added a 3/4 spigot to the bottom woth a nice big bore ball valve. Finally, I put it up high enough to put buckets under the spigot. I can also store buckets under it. It already has a bunch of crap piled on and around it:

Here's the bloom room at the moment:

SS854804-bloom.JPG

Here are the cutlings, starting to really go now:

SS854810-cutlings.JPG

And here are the two competing to see who goes into bloom next:

As always, close-ups and explanations are free.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

It was complicated tonight.

Code:
--> Cutlings:
1. Feed: Water to saturation
   Per gal:
1.0 T Pure Blend Pro Grow
	  .5 t Companion
   600 ppm, pH 6.24 @ 23.8 C

--> MTO1, MTO2 (both *VEG*):
1. Feed: 1 gal.
   Per gal:
1.0 T Pure Blend Pro Grow
	  .5 t Companion
   880 ppm, pH 6.23 @ 23.9 C
Code:
--> OC5, MTN1, OC3, MTN2:
1. Pre-flush: 1/2 gal.
   Per gal:
	 1 T liquid bone meal
   pH 6.19 @ 21.2 C

2. Feed: 1 gal. (MTN2 gets 5/8 gal)
   Per gal:
	 2 t Soil Nute
	 2 t PGE
	 3 t Notrazyme
	 1 oz yucca
	 2 t Biggest Bloom
	 2 t liquid bone meal
	 2 t Feather Tea
	 1 oz Amino Blast
	1/2 t Carbon sweet
	 1 t Cal-Mag
         1 T Calcium Syrup
	 1 t Companion

   OC5, MTN1: Diluted from 1400 ppm to 1315 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.24 @ 20.2 C

   OC3, MTN2: Dilute to 1200 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.23 @ 23.5 C
Code:
--> OC1:
1. Feed: 1.5 gal.
   Total for 1.5 gal:
3 T Pure Blend Pro Bloom (1-4-5, soil and coco formula)
	1.5 oz yucca
	1.5 oz Amino Blast
	 1 t Carbon sweet
        1.5 T Calcium Syrup
	1.5 t Companion
   Dilute to 1200 ppm
Brought up with liquid lime to pH 6.23 @ 23.3 C

The choice between MTO1 and MTO2 has been made. MTO1 has entered the bloom room. Today is her day 0.
