420 Magazine's Photo of the Month Contest: March 2018

Cant help but feel like this is the staff chosen plant of the month contest. Is it me or is that third place photo focal point are the leaves out in front of the main subject? Some great photos for sure but I would like to see some more creative compositions chosen over plants with large colas where other contests in this forum seem more appropriate for that type of photo. I hate to be the only dissenter but I was disappointed by the results of this months competition. Disclaimer: Objectively I would have not even chosen my own photo for the top 3 I only want whats best for the community.

Nice pictures all month long. Congratulations to everyone......youve all obviously got winning plants!

Excellent.....those are some great pictures. Very well deserved.:bravo:

First off congrats to everyone for participating.... this is 1 contest where the participation prize might even be better than the prizes!

Congrats to the winners - all well deserved!

Contestants, grab your participation prizes, and.......

Ready..... set...... puff!

It is hard to speak your mind without seeming like you are the bad person.
I was disappointed by the lack of creativity. We all want to win, some just seem to alot.

I like this shot from Ms. @LopinNSmokin. Coulda shoulda woulda been a 1st Place contender with just a little white balance adjustment. But a winner nonetheless! Congrats, Lopin and all the rest! Good photos. :goodjob:

Rider perhaps your right and that the yellow tinge was messing with my eyes but lighting is an important aspect of photography nonetheless.

Lighting can make or break a photo but we're stuck shooting under whatever light we grow under. Someone here taught me how to use a gray card for correcting WB in post-processing but for us cell phone photogs there are some killer apps that let you correct on the fly. I like Camera+ for the iPhone. It'll even color correct blurple photos!
I'm not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination so I have to rely on technology and Photoshop/Lightroom/etc to fix it in the mix.

To be fair it also says no editing and mine was a candid shot:) I thought about adjusting light etc. photos should be focused on the subject not thrown in with what makes it "pretty". Raw shots versus set up and edited out.

I would also like to say two of us in the top 3 have never join any contest and the person saying that some seem win to a lot is the January winner. Maybe its really just the consistency:) Be aware that many are doing it to show pictures not to win.:rollit:

I touched on the editing rule but I think I may have read more into it than intended. I'm thinking that they mean no fancy schmancy stuff like masking in a different background. Cropping and color correcting are all part of creating a photo, right? Maybe the judges will clarify?

So true. I surely didn't expect to win, I just wanted to introduce Strangebud to a wider audience. :p

I hope they will! I am just happy to see others enjoyed my photo as I did. Thank you to those who liked my post and for the congratulations!! very nice community on here to show support of others.

And The Winners Are...

Once again, some great entries. Over 50 this month again. Thank you all.

Judges notes. Just some helpful tips - these are not rules or regulations!
- We are looking for the best photo - not the best plant , bud etc.
- Watch your backgrounds. They can make the difference between a fair and a great photo.
- Focus can be difficult. Great sticky buds and nugs especially need decent lighting and sharp focus.
- Props and hands can be difficult to make look great! It can be done, for sure, but it's difficult.
- We really applaud those trying to do something creative and different too. That's a challenge, but please don't give up.

Onto the winners:

First Place - Cola Monster

Second Place - Derby Bud

Third Place - LopinNSmokin

:bravo:
