420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow By Modest Grower

Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by! I'm Modest Grower and I am pleased to be part of 420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow sponsored by @Weed Seeds Express.

This is the first time I have ordered or received seeds from Weed Seeds Express and I'm excited to see how these Girl Scout Cookies turn out. Thank you very much to @Weed Seeds Express and @420 for this exciting opportunity.

I normally germinate my seeds by soaking them overnight and keeping them in a damp paper towel until a tap root emerges. I know a couple other people have used this method this comparative so I decided to drop 2 of mine straight into rockwool and under a humidity dome.

I will definitely be starting more of the 12 GSC seeds I received soon (in this journal) but this is my first time trying to grow hydro so I am dipping my toes in before popping all the beans. More on the set up tomorrow but here are two of the future lovely GSC ladies in their new home.

Temp is around 75 F and humidity is around 90%. Disregard the rh reading in the picture, that is the room reading.

I have the seeds on a tray over a heated mat to help with the chilly nights and a dome for humidity. I soaked the rockwool in a very light nutrient with ph at 5.5

Thanks again for stopping by! As I mentioned, I'll cover the set up and grow details in more detail tomorrow but I wanted to at least get started and say hi! I'm learning as I go so please share your knowledge and help me grow!
Really appriciate your update and thank you for working with our genetics! We will follow your grow with great interest!

Happy almost Friday everyone! Wow, very impressed so far with the vigor of these seeds from @Weed Seeds Express

I dropped these two into the rockwool last night (no pre soak or paper towel) and I couldn't help but take a peek today. Both are on their way to the surface with a nice taproot. I Probably would have just waited and not looked under normal circumstances but I wanted to get an idea of the germination timeline for the sake of a contribution to the comparative. Definitely under 24 hours on these.

I also dropped another seed into soil to grow out as a mother and later clone into hydro for a little experiment I am working on.

That is fantastic. Here I am struggling to get some ghost train haze to pop lol

Just a few notes of reflection on the initial round of germination.....

I'll say the aspect of the germination I am really happy about that I had control over was the temperature and humidity. For that the dome, heat mat, and temp/hygrometer were key. I kept humidity high 80s or higher on average and temp at 24 degrees celsius which I think is like 75F.

I have germinated quite a few recently and had a bad run with a batch of unnamed seeds. They must have been smashed or something and the hull split after the initial soak. It definitely sowed doubt in my mind as it had been a little while but.....(full circle incoming).

If you have temp and humidity where it needs to be and you have good seeds it should work out. For my first 2 seeds with @Weed Seeds Express I am two for two and from what I have seen the germination rate is very high in the comparative. I have a third one I dropped straight into soil today. Science doesn't sleep and the experiments continue...
:lot-o-toke:

Happy Friday everyone! :slide:

I checked on the seeds today and I continue to be impressed.

Day 2 since I dropped the seeds into the rockwool. 1 has broke the top surface and both are shooting out the bottom already. I'm going to delicately place them into their baskets with clay pellets and go from there. Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

I’d love to see you do a journal on that. Are you allowed to make a grow journal as a sponsor?
I honestly have no idea. Never asked. Always assumed we need to stick to the lighting section or sponsorship section.

Could be fun..
I may do it. I will be setting up another tent soon. Can't show my current tents because it houses all our up and coming stuff.

Welcome to the weekend everyone! I am seriously very happy with the two seeds I started in rockwool. I know I worked very hard to keep the conditions as ideal as I can but in under 48 hours both are above surface with no helmet and looking good! :headbanger:

I moved them into their "forever homes" :battingeyelashes: and am still using the dome to help keep humidity and temp ideal. They are in baskets of clay pellets that will sit on a 5 gallon bucket in the near future. Have a great weekend everyone!

happy Friday @Dano999 I could not agree more! I was really worried about this stage for my first hydro grow and in this massive comparative but wow loving it so far I am so excited to see the roots hit the nutrient mix in the buckets! Thanks for stopping by, have a fantastic weekend!!!

You have a great weekend too. :ciao:

Seriously, @VetSmoke85 i could already see what I call the first leaves coming through on one of them (basically the serrated ones) anyway, super happy so far. I have to hop back into yours and catch up. I hope all is well. Have a great weekend!

Happy Saturday! I was going to hold off on a photo update until the evening which is really when I will be when I plan to do the updates and technically day 2 but its the weekend!

The room got a little cold last night and when I first saw the two they looked a bit sad. I got the temp and humidity in check and watered the pellets. They seem to have responded well and are looking ok. I need to move them to the tent I think sooner rather than later but I am still worried about night temps there. I hope all is well!

Day 2

Excellent!

I believe a lot of my issues with helmets has to do with the consistency of the soil I'm using. Too lose and the chances of getting it go up in my opinion. I had two in my group recently.

The rockwool looks like the right consistency every time.

That makes perfect sense! Thanks for thought @BakedARea
