Yeah they work great. Yields are decent enough.. I grow large plants. I've grown with and without. I dont use them for yields more for convenience than anything. I don't have to water every day which is a beautiful thing.I'm looking into this set up as a mate reckons quicker growth could u tell me bit bout autopot do you get bigger yield?
There's a bottom tray with a float system. Plant drinks up water the float drops and the water tray stays full of water. Water flows via gravity. I have the reservoir about 6-10" off the floor. How does the automatic watering work? Can I assume they are constantly moist, i.e. no wet/dry cycle for them?
And, if so, do you not see benefit in letting them dry out between waterings?
The surface of the soil gets dry. There are about 1-2" of clay balls in the bottom of the container otherwise the soil would become anaerobic. The roots are able to adsorb the water thru capillary action. Clay balls are in the water the soil is in contact with the clay balls. That's it. The soil is damp all the way up to about 1" of the top of the soil is dry.
First time I used this I was really amazed how much water full grown flowering plants require. Much more than what I was hand watering. Some plants can drink ~2 gallons per day going down the stretch. You cant hand water that much water very easily. You would need to water 2x a day at that rate. That becomes full time work.
We can see the plants taking off now.
I've increased the lighting to 100% - plants on the floor MarsHydro lamp pinned to the ceiling. Full moon is today. Strawberry moon.
I usually harvest and flip to flower on the full moon cycle. So I'm thinking hard about flipping to 11/13 lighting tonight. Not sure yet. Have to take a look see.
