420 Magazine's Official Girl Scout Cookies Comparative Grow By BakedARea

Ohhh.. gotcha. I see what you mean. Thanks for the clarification. Do you think it is because of being under fed? But that happened a long time ago in your Veg right?

Maybe. I really don't know. I just hope they gain some substance before chop. Regardless, I'll get a decent yield with 4 plants.

A few of my plants are producing less than tight buds too, especially my largest bud that I have been showcasing in my grow. The rest of them are as hard as rocks, but there are at least two in my garden out of 11 that are doing this, so I think it is more a pheno thing than something I have done wrong. We shall see... those two will be some of the last that I pull just based on the white trichomes.

I finally got my microscope out...still not pleased because it wasn't quite bright enough and didn't get a good color balance. It could be operator error but don't tell him that...

There are a few ambers in there. Play with the light levels a bit until you can see them. I am going to start looking at my plants away from under the big light... it just washes everything out. I suspect that I have gone several grows without being able to really see the trichomes as they started to turn.
I tried doing this early this morning with just a little bit of ambient light. It was an overcast morning too which helped dim things down. I'm wondering why it captured it too dimly is the problem. I had to open up the exposure on these images. I'll try again.

I’m hoping you can bring the outdoors plants to chop with no pest or mold drama. Cheers
Thanks cr8! Appreciate the kind words about the journal. Doing what I can to make more time to visit here more often. A tough balancing act to be completely honest. Life has been a gut punch after gut punch lately. Doing what is possible to stay afloat and praise my blessings and oasis. Challenges need to be risen above.

I am so incredibly thankful that we have been blessed with the support of our sponsors. The pest and disease control is as close to autopilot as possible. It has been so incredibly satisfying to see pest damage but find NO pests. They do indeed enjoy a quick munch or two but quickly befall to the reactions to the oils and bacteria. No aphids. No white flies. No thrips. BUT the cabbage moths keep finding my plants and laying eggs. They will continue to hatch unless I use something else to keep them from hatching so close to harvest.

I wanted to keep from using other products but the pressure and potential damage from the caterpillars is real. I have no choice but to use some stronger insecticidal soaps. Not for a few days though. Need to let the natural foliar spray do its work first.

This morning ALL the plants got another foliar blast of @Sierra Natural Science
SNS209 & DC (Disease & Fungal Control). I am finding some spots of fungus on the outside plants. I feel like crying but I'm just going to keep treating and pray that it won't effect the taste profile of the flowers.

The outdoor garden also got a dose of BT for the caterpillars. They are not thriving when they hatch or taking over in any way but I'm worried about the tiny little F*<%ERS that get away from the spray and burrow deep inside the buds. They will ruin a bud faster than you can blink. I'm so scared already that there are some hiding and munching away getting fat. I'm inspecting every cola as best as I can. Any leaves that are connected to buds that even look droopy or dying are getting yanked. Then I clear some of the infected bud material around it. Then fully trest with a fungicide. If I don't do that, there is no doubt it could ruin the grow. I'm hoping the SNSDC makes that a thing of the past. It certainly seems to be working though. I'm just a paranoid kind of dude.

BLOOM @ 46 Days

My biggest lesson from last season is keeping myself to a better schedule with the pest and disease management. I am writing everything down in my paper journal of when I spray and water. Again, more details than I have been placing here. A lot of it is just repetitive because I haven't changed anything. If I make any changes (i.e. new light by @BESTVA LED ) then I try my best to remember to include those details. I'm thinking I'd like to try and grow a beast like this under the Pro4000. :hmmmm:

Outdoor PM check...found a couple spots that needed immediate attention. Last year, I was not doing daily checks and it got away from me.

I'm hoping this helps someone that has to deal with caterpillars. One of the methods that worked for me last year on my outdoor romulan was cutting away the mildew affected area and drench the area with 3% H2O2. It killed the mildew and didn't negatively affect the buds. I saved many big buds this way toward the end. I should have not let it get that bad in the first place. The consequences of poor care and laziness.

Seeing a leaf like this on an other wise healthy plant is a tell tale sign of a caterpillar dumping its feces all inside your bud. Get your H2O2, scissors, and garbage bag ready.

Get the leaf out and then cut away all the moldy material and the surrounding area. You can see that brown in the middle.

This is a great example of what happened a lot last year. These little shits eat leaves with BT and still end up going into the buds to hide. You can see a caterpillar here that died from eating a BT covered leaf. Seeing this today is a little disheartening but it is what it is. It is NOWHERE near as bad as it was last year. Now that I know it's present, I will have to spend more time doing some clean up. I'm still optimistic that most of the buds will be clean and high quality.

I'd rather lose a little bit now than a whole bud later. I lost MANY huge buds last year to mildew caused from caterpillars.

Tent Update - Flip + 25

@Sierra Natural Science SNS209 & SNSDC Foliar spray this morning when they had all their foliage. This afternoon, I had to get in there and do some clean up. I left a lot of branches that would otherwise be poor quality buds. Need to see that earlier in veg and have that already taken care of.

I think I let the plants in the fabric pots dry out too much. I believe that is the reason for the badly crispy leaves. Coupled with a new MUCH brighter @BESTVA LED and they simply got cooked.

They all got 1L x 2 for a total of 2L of SNS209 & @Terpinator drench water. In between the liters of water I did some defoliating and pruning on mainly #1 & 9 (fabric pots). Is it frowned upon to be doing that this late in flower?

Stick with it sounds like you're on top of it

Good catch on the (dead) bug @BakedARea. You're on this grow like stink on shit! :ganjamon:

OUTDOOR - 1 day short of 7 weeks - 48 Days

Hey everyone. Some quick update pics and a few observations to share.

They are due for a topdress of @GeoFlora Nutrients 'BLOOM' tomorrow. I'm beginning to think that #8 won't need it. There is plenty of nutrients left in the soil and I'm seeing no signs of deficiencies anywhere on her. And she's not eating up any leaves. What do you all think? Feed one more time...or not? I'm thinking some updated trichome pics tomorrow before I or we make a decision on how much longer she has to go.

Here is a quick pic of the amount of damage that my #2 Bonsai has taken in the past week. Even with all the defenses and offenses, they still have done damage. They don't live long but the visual damage has been done. Considering I intend this plant to be a showcase of the bonsai artform, and not necessarily for the harvest (although I would of course be striving for both), I'm thinking I will need to incorporate something much stronger to keep them away and completely staying away. I have also seen more mold on this plant compared to the others. I have it in a spot that doesn't get as much sun. She's not pleased. That changes tomorrow. I need her to give me a solid few weeks so I can do some finishing touches. I have already had to remove a couple smaller buds on the plant. Thankfully nothing that significantly impaired my design/vision.

Here is a clone I took from my #2 bonsai to create another bonsai with a different purpose/design/goal. This will be a root over rock design. You can see the start of the progress. This is the first time since I repotted it that I have exposed the roots. I want it to appear that the roots and plant split the rock in two.

Oh yeah...I forgot to post these pics up too. This has me worried... this did not look like this yesterday. Needless to say this bud is dead.

Urgh...the dynamics of mold and mildew. Did a lot of snipping and H2o2 drenching to try to put a stop to it.

I forgot to post this spot on a lower branch last week. I found it due to a previous pruning that got infected. It has been soaked a couple times with H2o2. First pic shows it going to work and killing nasties. 2nd pic is after I wiped it off and drenched it again. Same will be done everyday at least once to keep it from getting worse. I may use some cut paste on it and be done with it. We'll see.

INDOOR UPDATE - FLIP + 27 Days
(1 day short of 4 weeks)

@BESTVA LED Pro4000 is killing it! These ladies are thrilled with all the wattage it's putting out. I currently have it maxed out at roughly 20" and getting over 800 PPFD in the middle zones and dropping off into the mid 300s out in the edges. I have been continuing to rotate the lights and that is helping.

#1 - Front Right, #3 - Front Left, #7 - Back Right, #9 - Back Left

#3 has been so smooth. There really is something to having the self-watering pot as a buffer that keeps them happier. I know I'm not watering the fabric pots correctly. These containers have helped keep the plant hydrated longer and ultimately looking much happier.

You can see here when I gave them a small drink on Thur. Ch 2 is plant #3. It maintained a 6% higher moisture content than the rest of the plants. Ch1 - #1 (fabric), Ch3 - #7 (plastic nursery pot), Ch4 - #9 (fabric)

#1 - hasn't skipped a beat after its last defoliation

#7 in the back corner

#9 - tried to isolate it to make it easier to see. So far, this training method has not produced promising looking yields inside a tent. This would be great outdoors and would have produced a massive tree. It just doesn't make sense I suppose to try and replicate a north facing trunk inside a tent. LOL

Hey everyone! Quick updates. Been a rough past couple days. For the outdoor garden and its caretaker. Anyway...Indoor plants got their @GeoFlora Nutrients 'BLOOM' top dress on Monday morning instead of Sunday. They all received 3.5L - 4L of water each. The moisture meters registered an average 24 hr change from 17% up to 40%. It began to drop again after a few hours and stabilized around the mid 20% by the end of today. I will likely give them another hefty drench on Thursday morning. Maybe even tomorrow at this rate!

Yesterday 9/20 - It got REALLY hot in my tent. Generally speaking, it got really warm in out area yesterday and today. I had to vent the tent and it immediately dropped the temps but still pretty high and dry. What sucks is that the humidifier ran out early in the day so it got really dry for most of the day. I'm currently shooting for a RH between 45%-50%

#9 - Bad color balance boosted the color too much. Sorry.

This morning they were looking happy with their big drink from the day before. I must say, I think I need to figure out a better way to incorporate my top dress because I still had quite a bit left from last time.

#7 had the nicest looking buds so far from the bunch.

The stacking on these genetics is what I've noticed the most, and yours are no different. They will drop your jaw in a week.

Steady as she goes.......

Thanks Baron. I'm excited to watch them. I looks like I need to give them a larger initial drench. These girls are drinking a lot!
BakedArea, you have so much going on. I hope things ease up and you can also bring home the outdoor garden. Indoor buds are building nicely. Cheers
Hey cr8! Yeah...there is a lot. I wish I could go into it but it's just so damn frustrating. I may have to harvest the outdoor garden early. I'm going to do a heavy snipping of mold infested buds and see how she looks. :(

I'm praying that the indoor continues smoothly and that I can somehow manage to keep my chin above the surface. Lol

More updates coming soon.

Hey again everyone. What a day...what a freaking day...see all those brown tops?! Yeah...

Well let's just say that the outdoor garden was humming along ok in my eyes and within 48 hrs it is now a war zone!!!

Possibly overly dramatic but I hate all things botritus and caterpillars!!! They are currently winning and I'm having to face a difficult decision. I need your help with what I should do next.

Today marks an estimated 52 days of the bloom cycle for the @Weed Seeds Express GSC #8. So the H2o2 did its job and wiped out a lot of sections that were previously identified as having mildew. You can see how damn ugly she is now. No more pretty pics of her all full. She officially had her first harvest today. It was absolutely a damage control harvest and possibly a precursor to pulling her down completely very soon depending on how she progresses the next couple days.

Can anyone identify this insect please? I found a couple hanging out on the branches near areas with mildew and they appeared to be eating it at first observation.

They would be on branched sections like this.

Well did some trimming and even with all the damage I cut out, they are still some beautiful buds in my eyes.

OMG is she sticky! She's not even ready yet and already like this!

Ended up with 422 grams wet...urgh...

Ahhh...MUCH better!

And now...some trichome porn!
These were taken from three different spots. Top front, top rear, and middle/inner canopy

Where would you place your harvest window?
Now or Later? I'm thinking ideally I would do a staggered harvest. Harvest as the buds mature versus a whole plant chop. Thoughts?
