I just had a quick look back through this journal to check we had the exchange about bovedas here.
Hello there readers. Forgive the time it has taken to tie this up. RL intrusions have had me in my starter’s trap expecting to dash out of town for a funeral at short notice. I couldn’t really get my head around getting this done TBH. Anyway, things have settled down for now at any rate.
And so, barring the boveda refresh, we’ll be bringing this GSC journal to a close soon.
A boveda reset
A life hack for the craft cultivator on a budget.
Following an earlier link to a video showing a way to rehydrate a boveda pack that has dried out, here is a way to dry out boveda packs that have gotten too soggy to be of further use.
First take some rice left over from our esteemed colleague
@InTheShed ’s rice ball therapy (a great way to rescue a damp stash).
I re-desiccated the rice by giving it an hour and a half in the oven at 80℃.
This is my small collection of used bovedas. They had all passed their usefulness.
Most felt watery.
One or two had hard crystals in them and they were inflexible.
I just treated them all the same. I know there’s a different remedy for the different packs. I’ll finesse it next time
The RH in the room when I jarred these was 64. It rapidly shot up to 69 in the jar as soon as it was sealed. I dare say it would have gone higher if I’d left it longer. The speed it shot up at was compelling to see. They were definitely not doing what they were designed to do any more.
I sealed the lid of this casserole dish (needs must) with blu tack to make it air tight. I left the bovedas buried in there for a week, from Sunday to Sunday.
The RH in the room today was 66 when I unpacked the bovedas. In the jar it went down to 59/58 before stabilising back at 60. I don’t know whether it would have hit 62 and been as good as new if I’d tested them for longer.
I’m happy that they mostly had a gel-like texture to them again, each with crystally-feeling lumps starting like granules. Maybe a week was longer than they needed, but on the basis that my packs were mostly too wet when they were pulled, for me to start again with them a little drier feels like a good thing.
I have run out of GSC flower as you know, so for neutrality sake I am tucking a refreshed pack into some CBD flower for the photo.
My stored flower is now so much better off now that I’m learning to look after it.
And thanks to
