4 Ladies In A 100 Gallon Fabric Bed, Organic Super Soil, 4x4 Tent, 1000W HID

Hiya Frizz,

Looks like everything is in place for a phenomenal grow. Looks awesome. So many things of interest there! Nice job, girl. Will be fun watching your grow! Namaste.

Thanks so much Smeegol! He really did do a fabulous job

Welcome aboard Bode!! Yeah there are a lot of variables here, hopefully things come together for an awesome harvest! I am having fun just trying a bit of everything, this is so different from growing in DWC!

Alright folks, it has been a week since I put the ladies into the 100 gallon bed, and they are really starting to take off!

Here are individual shots, I gave Gold Leaf and Strawberry some compost tea since they are a bit smaller than the two in the front (Blueberry and Pineapple):

Blueberry has shown an enormous amount of growth- she was the smallest seedling when I put her in a week ago and she is the biggest now!

The chamomile and yarrow came up within 2 days after seeding them in the tent, I was absolutely shocked! Normally herbs take at least a week to come up. Here they are, so precious! The basil is doing quite well, and I noticed that the two plants adjacent to it are much larger in biomass than the two in the back. #companionplantsdoingwork!?

These are current temp/humidity stats about 15 mins after the light came on today. Most of the day, temps are in the 90s, at least until we get a vent running outside. The garage gets hot hot hot this time of year but the ladies don't seem to mind!

Here are some big picture shots of the tent:

The other day, my husband made a good point: "Um, why put a stinging plant into a crowded tent that you will be reaching back into?". Fair enough! So, I added a Borage seed to the same spot I put the nettle seeds into (back center). Whichever comes up first gets to stay!

Next update in a week or so :cheer:

Thanks everyone and as always, questions, comments, and feedback are welcome and appreciated!
:thanks::Namaste:

That's a really nice start. I was thinking of doing something similar, but I chickened out because I thought it would be too tough to reach the plants in the back and no way to pull them out of the tent . But I'm gonna watch this one and hope you prove me wrong.

Thanks HayStack! I can just barely reach the back middle from the two side tent flaps, but it will be a challenge for sure as the plants get bigger. Maybe I need one of those arm extender grabby thingies that older folks use to pick things up...hmmm :p

Big Lazy Susan...

Or if hubby is handy, he/you could make say 3/4 in plywood with nice wheels under to handle the weight.

Good call on the nettles. We have them around here and always brush into them!. I'm quite surprised about the girls next to the basil are much larger. Do you attribute that to the basil companion plant? Or something else? Very interesting stuff!

Heya Frizz, been watching from a distance.. Love the way things are playing out... You definately have some ummm Unique ideas, Love the crystals... All zen like and everything... Positive energy and good vibes to you two... I be around Watching, learning and loving it... LOL Green days and to all

Welcome aboard Madd, thanks so much! Positive vibes and energy to you too!

Haha, funny thing about the wheels, he put the tent on a sturdy frame with 4 wheels rated for 200 lbs each. However, the wheel by the fan ended up warping and splintered from the heat exhaust + pressure. So now the tent is sitting on 4 dollies, each rated for 1,000 lbs! That should be sufficient methinks, unless they get REALLY heavy during flower:p

Good question about the 2 plants up front. In my previous grows, the two plants closest to the front have always been the biggest and frostiest. Maybe I subconsciously give them more love/attention since they are right there? Or maybe the basil is helping! It is supposed to improve oil content but maybe it it improving the vigor of nearby plants as well? Fun stuff!

Love this grow :Namaste:

Why thank you!! Welcome aboard Advocate!

Two days ago I started training the two plants in front (Pineapple Haze and Blueberry). The training method is one I adapted from an online grower called Nebula Haze, and involves manifolding each plant into 16 main colas.

For this first session, I topped them down to the 3rd node and removed all other growth. This method forces the plant to send all of its resources to the new growth tips and ends up being great at harvest time. No larfy bottom buds to trim, and every cola top is big and fat :)

Stages of training (before, after topping, after undergrowth removal).

Here they are today, as you can see they recover quickly, they are building their new two main stems:

Here are the other ladies (Gold Leaf and Strawberry Kush), they are starting to take off now.

Basil looking lovely! I will be topping it once it reaches 6 inches tall or so. Margarita pizza anyone?!?!

Yeah...its hot in here but the ladies don't mind! :slide:Temps will stay like this for the next week or so, its high 80s outside so opening the window doesn't help much lol.

Whole group shot

Btw I decided to eat the leaves that I nipped off during training. They tasted like salad greens but with a spicy herby kick.
Tomorrow I will be topping Gold Leaf and Strawberry. Also, might be seeding some red clover in to provide a living mulch and nitrogen fixation.

As always, questions, comments, and feedback are welcome!

All caught up and intrigued! Looking forward to seeing your vision to fruition. Do you have any fans blowing? With your tent being about 7 feet tall, your bed of clay 3-5inches? Soil another 12, light fixture hanging depends, plus your light distance to the canopy which I imagine won't be very much with that beautiful root space but you'd want to keep 24 inches away unless cooled which can get you much closer.

My fan just died last crop and my plants burned because of it halfway through. Reduced my quality and yields. I am also in soil, 1000 hps, 5x5 tent. New fan new crop will be done on the 20th!

Hiya MrLoveGrow, welcome aboard! If I did my math right, the girls can get about 3 feet tall comfortably, 4 feet with some careful bending/training away from the hottest part of the light. Currently I have one fan on each side, it creates a nice flow across the plants. Thanks for the heads up about checking on the fans regularly, maybe I will add another as a back up :)

Top o the merry morning to you ms.Frizz and to your hubby too.. I also enjoy eating the tops I snip or th odd leaf or such... Going to be watching your manifolding skills, just need to up pot first.. won't say no to a pizza either..lol

Well I hope this weekend provides lots of whatever makes you happy hey...:high-five::goodjob:

Thanks myyy preciousssss! We did end up getting a pizza, and the basil was very good! Not quite enough for the whole thing but we had enough to sprinkle on several slices.

Speaking of manifolding, it's update time!!

A couple days ago I topped/manifolded Gold Leaf and Strawberry Kush (the two ladies in the back).

Here are pics from that process:

And here the girls are today, after recovering and starting to grow their two new main stems:
Gold Leaf
Strawberry Kush

Topped the basil today, yum yum! I removed the purple one so the green basil can have space to get nice and bushy.

Chamomile

Yarrow

Borage just popped! There is a tiny nettle next to it

This illustrates how well the bed retains moisture...I have only "spot watered" the smaller plants, not the whole bed. Yet, it is still damp just 2 inches under the surface in any given location! The roots are loving it, there is enough moisture for them to grow and expand deep and the soil is nice and fluffy/aerated down there. I wonder how long it will be before I have to water? :p

To cap it off, a full shot of the tent:

Next training will be in a week or so, turning the front two ladies from 2 main colas to 8 each!

As always, questions, comments, and feedback are welcomed!

Hiya Miss Frizz,

Looking great so far. Very interesting grow. Some herbs I grew this year have taken so long out of the gate, it's surprising to me the differences in growing herbs. You're doing a great job!

Thanks Bode, it's been lots of fun! I was super surprised about the herbs too, they have always taken longer to sprout before. I guess they like the warmth and good hippie vibes in there haha! :cheer:

lookin good so far

Thanks Purps! I took your advice and have been careful with moisture levels, haven't watered yet except the new seedlings and the soil is still damp everywhere just 2 inches down!

good morning lil miss sunshine, how ya doing ms.F, the lady's are as happy as pigs in the proverbial poo pile....lol they looking awsome and your bed is working out just awsome, loving it.

top o the morning to you...

Good to see ya Smeegol! Thanks, the ladies do look pretty happy now that they are getting used to their new digs. My hydro plants never had this nice shade of green, they looked a bit more neon. Definitely liking organics so far! Super happy that the mix isn't burning them, I was concerned since I made it double the concentration of Subcool's recipe.

Update time!

Yesterday I manifolded the front two plants into 8 tops each by removing the 2nd node on each fork and topping it at the end. This turns each side from 1 top into 4.

Today I bent the stems down using some metal prongs I found in the garage. I just pushed them into the soil until all of the plants colas were all the same height.

Here are a couple big picture shots for perspective:

The back two plants will get turned into 8 tops in a couple more days, after they start their 4th node on each side.

If you want a more thorough explanation of this training process, search "Nebula Haze Manifolding Tutorial", I truly believe this is the most effective method yield-wise for small indoor grows.

As always, questions, comments, and feedback are appreciated!
