July 19th, Day 55 of flowering....

Today I checked up on the ladies and they are looking really nice, with the exception of the yellowing chemband in the front right of my tent. I know this late in flowering, nitrogen is getting stripped from the leaves and the plant will let the fan's turn yellow and die off that are not needed, however, it seems pretty extreme with the chemband, and it's not just on the old fans but the newer small bud leaf's too???!!! I decided to flush again today, since I can't remove the pots from the scrog screen to properly flush, I have to do it in smaller amounts at a time... I also wanted to check the soil run-off and see if I identified any ph issues. I ran pure distilled water thru all the plants (wanted to make it even) and gave them enough until there drain pans were over-full and flooding my tent...(luckily it has a waterproof floor so clean up is very easy). I checked the yellowing chembands run off....(starting distilled was 7.0ph and runoff was only 7.1ph, So I know this is within the acceptable range, as well as the same for all of my plants...so ph I don't think is the issue.....I hope it is just the normal yellowing during flowering....

Any suggestions?

After watering, I noticed that my front middle blue dragon had little white jumping bugs in soil which moved very quickly and would jump, almost like flea's. After poking around on the internet I found out they are springtails. Upon further research I found that even those these pest's can multiply fast, and normally will seek moist organic type living conditions, they do very little harm to plants, and I actually read that they can be beneficial to the plants as well....whew.....!!!! at least there not a bad pestie....lol... How they are beneficial to the plants I found out is they can transport myco's and fungi around the root base, as well as eat any harmful spores or fungi's growing, so even though a nuisence, not somthing I am alarmed by....
I decided to give them the old "fungus gnat killer", the clothes steamer....

Carefully I moved away the top 2" of soil, steaming every inch I could uncover...very tedious but I saw the little fu**ers die instantly in the steam shower so I know at least I killed a good amount of them... I did this for all of my pots, even though I only found 2 of the 6 to have these Springtail's in the soil.... After steaming the soil of all pots, I gave a light but fully covering spray of my peppermint tea, neem, nicotine, habenero spray (only spraying the soil and pots, careful not to spray the stems, buds or leaves)....

Hopefully this keeps them at bay for another week until harvest...

On a positive note, the blue dragons fan's are really starting to change from green to purple and even the buds have a nice lavender purple hue to them..I checked the trichomes and only on just a few of the sugar leafs I spotted about 30% amber, but the majority of the buds are still clear from top cola to the lower bud sites, so i know they are nearing harvest, but still not ready yet....

Smell has definitely become an issue, these ladies are stinking a ton!!! Even with 2 carbon scrubbers, not large ones, but still decent for the size of my tent, when I walk outside for a few minutes and then back to my grow area, the room is definitely filled with the fragerence of growing herb...somthing I personally don't mind, but don't want any curious, non cool neighbors to get a bad taste.... So I rigged up some 'tree style' car air fresheners around the room, as well as a cardboard box full of drier sheets at the exhaust end of my fan outputs....This did make quite a significant difference, however I think upon drying, things may get a little stinky...so may be looking for a air purifier/ionizer soon on craigslist....

As far as my drying box/cabinet/area that I am trying to figure out what will work the best, for cheap, and minimize smell, but provide a stable drying environment....

So far I have a couple options...I could build one to size with wood, which would be my best option, however, I don't have an area to construct such a project, as well as very minimal power tools to do the cutting... so this option will probably have to wait till next round... I looked into DIY options and found that the Uhaul cardboard armoir moving boxes could work well and also are a cheap option, so this might be my best bet so far. I also found these "portable armoirs" at home depot, that looked almost like a grow tent, but were made to hold additional hanging clothes and made out of cloth...I thought perfect....affordable, breathable, durable, and so I took a trip to home depot....well I never noticed on the website that it said online item only, so after spending a good 45 mins walking around Home Depot I asked cust service who let me know its not a store item...I really wanted to see what the material was like, so I knew if it could be cut for vent holes and for a fan, but since there was none to physically see, I decided this probably wont be the route I'm taking....
So most likely I will be doing the box method, and probably be making some screen shelfs that I can lay the smaller "popcorn" style nugs on, while the large cola's can hang above...

Any cheap and effective drying DIY projects that you would like to share would be greatly appreciated...

Hey Ice, you're about to finish strong. The yellowing of the leaves are normal factor during late flowering. Excessive lost of lower fan leaves indicate that the girls are transferring the stored nutes to the buds for seed production. Since there isn't any pollination going on and the plants are aware of this, they take up more from fan leaves to push out their last effort in producing more trichome and pistils in hope to catch some pollens, passing on their gene before they die. If your whole plant turns yellow overnight then there could be issue relating to deficiency. Also, may very well be genetics. Just about a week you'll be done with them so there really isn't much you can do but to flush and wait for the window of harvest to open, then chop.

The small scrubbers may only last up to a few months. Not sure when you last change out the carbons, but if the smell is overpowering the room, that's a good indicator to change them out with fresh ones. Place them close to the odor zone and place one inside the tent one out to help eliminate odor fast. After harvest you can just dry them in the tent with the scrubber on and a fan. Zipped up the tent and there will not be any smell. I tent to dry them above the LED (it has fans) in the grow room and turns out fine. There isn't much room here either for drying so it share its place with the current grow.

Good luck on your next phase; drying & curing. You'll do great.

:adore::adore::adore:nice colas!!!!!!!

Hey everyone, thanks for your support and kind comments!!! Sorry for the delay in the posts...Ran into some pretty weird computer problems with my bios and lets just say after some tinkering around, I think I solved the problem and saved myself a good 600$ for a new processer and motherboard!! Hope it stays working....lol..

The ladies have been looking ooh so sweet and I think very soon the Blue dragons will be harvested. I am for sure going to only harvest the cola's 1st round to allow the lower budsites to develop more as well as hopefully grow in size. They still haven't seemed to swell yet like the cola's and still show some white hairs so I know the lower sites can go longer. This also will give me a different timeframe of the meds, to see if the effects after harvest are different or the same... Trichomes still are rather clear for the most part, and I only see ambering on some of the sugar leaf's, but still only like 30 to 40% amber, and only on the sugar leafs...all the others are still clear... :)
The fan's on the blue dragons are really starting to lose there green and show heavy purple/lavender coloration, as well as the buds also are showing a very light pink/lavender color!!

I pulled a test cola the other day to again practice drying, curing and see overall weight expectations as well as how much weight will be lost to drying...The wet weight of the cola was 22.8 grams, only 1 day after drying the cola weighed 17.1 grams....2 days after cutting was 12.8 grams...today it was only 10.5 and still feels damp inside, but the outside is crispy...and stem looks to be drying out at the top...so I threw her in a jar for a couple hours, opened it and felt quite humid air escape...the bud also seemed to even out the moisture and the outide was lightly moist again...so I will start the burping process...most likely jars for 4 to 6 hrs, then same for drying outside the jars...we will see what works best...

Blue Dragon cola cut...wet weight 22.3g. Hang dry in my closet..

The chemband's are really starting to thicken up and there are so many tops that I have been discovering as I have begun to tie more of the tops up with strings for support. The buds are getting so dang heavy that the skinny slender stems just can't support them very well...the smell is a very sweet kushy smell, very fresh and pleasing, almost like bedsheets that were hung to dry in the sun :) I have quick dried a few lil samples of this one, and even with oven drying, the taste was very trademark headband (kind of like vick's vapor rub mixed with oranges/lemons and menthol...) the high even for being a sample pulled early and quick dried, knocked my ass out...very very heavy high already....I can't wait till its ready!!!

My University Hill's Og's are also filling in very nicely. Supercropping really worked out well in my situation and all of the supercropped branches are very heavy with huge dense cola's already...they are still showing mostly white hairs with few orange, so i know that they still have quite a while to go...supposed to be 9 to 10 weeker's... the smell of these is outstanding, already has a very very strong trademark OG smell...that funk, that pinesol/lemon/piney kush smell that you know u have magic when you smell it.... I am soooo happy with how this strain is turning out, never expected it to produce like this....

I have not watered since last watering a few days ago and with my soil moisture meter, i still show the pots are quite moist. I really want to start to dry out the pots quite a bit before watering at this stage of the game, 1 because of any pesties that may try to mess up my ladies....2 because of moisture, more prone to mold, and 3 because I have read that stressing them slighly in later flowering will help the plants get ready for fall/winter and increase the resin production. My feeding for my blue dragons is distilled water, molassass, liquid carboload, humic acid, catalyst and my naked fruit smoothy as well as some coconut water added in....

My chemband and UVH's OG is the same as before...Full line EJ on recirculation schedule....grow which is high in N is being mixed at 1/4 the amount recommended. Also adding botanicare cal/mag, humboldt gravity and snowstorm...in 1/4 amounts of recommended amount...humic acid, GO bioweed..cold pressed seaweed, and about 5tbsp of molassas..

Well thank you everyone that has stayed tuned, helped or even said Hell yeah!! lol I appreciate the support and the encouragement!!

That is so nice!!!!!o.m.g.;)

Nice and swollen! That's the right time to harvest. Good call on harvesting in section, being the top cola first and let the bottom buds swell up. I do the same. It may take longer to harvest all buds from the plants with additional 1-2 weeks for the lower sites to gain weight, but you'll get more in the long run in terms of grams. Once we chop the girls that's it, the weight actually lessen as you already know, going from wet weight to dry weight mostly water being evaporated and the stem.

Do you have a daylight cfl (5000-6500K)? You can have them near the girls for contrast when taking the shots bud porn. Have it just right above the buds (don't get the cfl in the shots). It will bring out the colors while the buds still bathe in hps.

nice nugs/

////// god have sherif here counting my plants. breakup man hard , she tryn, entrapment on me had to many but smarter than her took em to my boys house / crazy nite 4 me man // stressed.had 4 to many rooted.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the luv and all the kind comments!!! Sorry about the delays with my postings lately, my computer crashed abuot a week ago so im using a pentium 3 old skool laptop for now, so please bear with me...lol.....

Yesterday july 26th, my blue dragons met there maker....chop chop time" sat least 1/3 if not 1/2 amber trichomes and most of the red hairs recessed with false seed pots swoll, I decided it was time. I harvested almost all of the blue dragon colas with the exception of a few that didn't seem mature yet, but left all of the under bud sites still attached to the plant "sectional" harvest. I wet trimmed each bud and hung each one on a string in my DIY drying box/closet.

My DIY drying closet was built for a little under 50$ and consists of a Uhaul jumbo cardboard armoir, a cheap clip on desk fan, some heavy duty moving rope/twine and a digital thermometer with hygrometer for keeping track of RH. The drying rack was verx easy to build and so far seems to be very effective for maintaining a good RH..sitting between 55-60% with a slow air exchange (negative pressure). To build the cabinet i assembled the moving box completely, measuring 20x24x52" i think. I taped up all joints and places where air could leak in. I then cut a door in the front of the box, basicly slitting 3 sides and folding it back, as well as cut 2 flaps/vents in the very bottom of the box for air intakes. For the hanging area I used heavy duty nylon moving rope and "shoestringed" it back and forth by punching holes in the sides of the box and weaving it back and forth in a shoelace fashion. On the roof of the box, I cut a hole, big enough for a 6" desk fan to be placed drawing air up thru the box, and out the top, and sealed it to the hole with some ducting, packing tape... Finally I hung a digital thermometer/hygrometer inside so i can monitor RH..... So far the temps inside the box have stayed in the lower to middle 70s and the RH has been sitting between 50% and 60%, more toward the higher range....

As for the blue dragon harvest, after trimming all of the cola's, I had a total wet weight of 374.1 grams....so after drying, my estimate i think I can expect from this is somewhere around a 1/4lb... the cola that was harvested not too long ago has fully dried out and I have been smoking it quite a bit...very very pure blueberry fruity taste, with a very clear and kind of trippy head high with very little body high....I am so far impressed and cant wait till these are dry and cured...

as for my chemband's, i checked the trichomes with a 30x lupe and they are just starting to show very few amber trichomes, but most are clear, so I know i should still have another 2-3 weeks before these are done. Hairs still are about 1/2 white and half amber, but not much swelling yet. Tons of trichomes, these buds are just covered like they were dipped in sugar!!!!

My University Hill's og's are still in progress, really swelling up and getting heavy, but also are far from done yet. they still show mostly white hairs with about 1/3 orange and no amber trichomes yet... These buds by far have the strongest scent to them...they have that really strong, OG funk to them...very yummy smelling.... The cola's are exhibiting a very true to OG look, very very dense and frosty, with a ton of very small sugarleafs packed in the buds with a good balence of white, amber and green!!! I think these are going to be killer!!!

Well thats all for now, I will be letting the lower buds on the blue dragon's go for about 2-3 more weeks until I feel they are ready for harvest. I also have a buddy that has a local outdoor garden, So I was thinking after harvesting the remaining buds on the blue dragon, I may bring over the pot, rootball and stems and throw her outdoors to see what happens with the remainder of the season!! any thoughts on this..I am in socal...

Here are some of the harvest photos...tried to be very detailed, I actually took a photo of each trimmed cola, i am not going to post all of them, but just the most spectacular...

enjoy!!
