If you can build a little dry box with a pc fan to extract the air slowly like maybe once every ten minutes and throw a hydrometer in there using a fan not pointed directly at the buds. You can use a tray of water to raise humidity a bit if needed. But I've found that if you can keep your dry at a steady 70 degrees and the humidity at the range of 50 to 55% I never get the hay smell just bud and it slowly fades more and more to almost no smell. I like there to be a soft crunch around 7 days this way and not a snap and then into the curing jars where the smell comes back stronger then ever. It works every time for me and speeds up the curing process. I take the temp down to 68 after the first 3 days once the are crispy on the outer bud. And let them go another five days usually for a total of a week dry time till soft crunch. I de stem and open the jars for 10 to 15 minutes and fan them with the lid every 4 to 6 hours for the first 3 days then twice a day for 5 days then twice a week for the second weeks and they are usually up to snuff. But for best results for two more weeks I only open once a week before I seal Em up for long term storage. I'm thinking of using some of the small boveda 62 packs for storage up to a year with the jars sealed with canning wax. This is what always works for me to preserve smell and pliability but dry enough for a joint. I have a lil DIY carbon filter on my box but not required if you want to take a look at my journal.
