Plastic bags full of what appear to be cannabis leaves and large plant pots have been found dumped on a patch of farmland.

In an act of fly-tipping the sacks have been strewn across grass in Newton Harcourt.

The large sacks have been there since at least Saturday.

A passer-by said: "There's a pile of polythene bags and plant pots.

"My friend said it was there on Saturday."

In the mess there are large tubs of compost and what looks like marijuana.

Leicestershire Police has said it has not currently had any reports in regards to the rubbish.

A spokeswoman said: "We currently have no reports of that in Newton Harcourt."

The piles of trash were still there on Tuesday afternoon.

Newton Harcourt is a rural village south of the city of Leicester.

It forms part of the district of Harborough.

Harborough District Council has not yet had an official report of the incident.

A spokesperson said: "At present we aren't aware of this. We've not had any reports at the moment."

He added that its team would be looking for further information.

Newton Harcourt has previously been hit with cannabis-related crime.

In 2008 a cannabis factory was raided in the sleepy village and around 200 plants were seized.
