I read looking at the trichome on the plant is a good way to tell when to harvest. Would a 30x magnifying lens be enough to see those? I'm looking to order something & wanted to know what strength magnification is enough.
Magnifying glass or scope power needed?

Man keep it cheap. Get what jewelers use to examine gems. That lil thing. I forget what it's called but it work's great for me...

30 or 40 is good. I find 60x or to be too much and kind of a pita to focus.

Ones I've seen so far are $5 to $18. I found one glass one made in Germany for $15 30x.

30X would be just fine. Keep it cheap!!! Keep it simple. 
I bought 1 on Ebay for less than 10 bucks and I get it on Saturday. I have a 10x and can see the trichomes but not good enough to tell if they are clear or cloudy.

Been though all that: short end of the story, take photos on a phone & zoom right in. May need to take a few to get focus, but works perfectly & easily.
