What is a Vaporizer? A vaporizer is a device used to release the active ingredients of plant material or to release the therapeutic compounds. A healthier alternative to smoking, vaporizers heat the material at a much lower temperature (when compared to smoking) so that the active compounds contained in the plant material produce an aromatic vapor (instead of smoke). Rather than burning the plant material, which can produce numerous harmful by-products, this vapor contains virtually zero particulate matter and significantly reduced noxious gases. By avoiding combustion (smoke), the user is able to achieve the same desired effects without the harmful side-effects of smoking. Health Benefit Over the years, numerous studies have proved that vaporizers have numerous health benefits and are a much healthier alternative to smoking. The reason for this is that they heat the herbs at a much lower temperature, instead of burning them. While vaporizers are highly beneficial to people who have been prescribed for medical purposes, they are also beneficial for all smokers. Many scientific studies have examined vaporizers and the results all state that the release of harmful constituents is dramatically reduced or completely eliminated when they are used. 1. In 2007, a study by University of California, San Francisco published in the Official Journal of the American Academy of Neurology examined the effects of a vaporizer and found - "Using CO as an indicator, there was virtually no exposure to harmful combustion products using the vaporizing device. Since it replicates smoking's efficiency at producing the desired THC effect using smaller amounts of the active ingredient as opposed to pill forms, this device has great potential for improving the therapeutic utility of THC " 2. A 2006 study performed by researchers at Leiden University, who tested a Volcano Vaporizer, found that - "Our results show that a safe and effective delivery system seems to be available to patients. The final uptake of THC is comparable to the smoking, while avoiding the respiratory disadvantages of smoking." 3. In a 2001 study testing a device called the M1 Volatizer, the researchers found that - "it is possible to vaporize medically active THC by heating to a temperature short of the point of combustion, thereby eliminating or substantially reducing harmful smoke toxins that are normally present in smoke." Choosing A Vaporizer (Q&A) What is a vaporizer? A Vaporizer is a device used to release the active ingredients of your herbs or oils/concentrates without combustion (which creates smoke). This is achieved through either Conduction or Convection (see below). What's the difference between Conduction and Convection? With Conduction vaporization, your herb is placed in direct contact with the heating source. On the other hand, Convection vaporization occurs when hot air passes over the herb, but never actually touches the heating element/source. How is vaporizing healthier than smoking? Instead of burning the material, your product is heated at a much lower temperature. This allows one to receive all of the benefits that herbs have to offer without the carcinogens and other nasty by-products that are released during combustion (smoking). Is there a smell associated with vaporizing? There is a slight smell that is released upon exhaling (comparable to lightly burnt popcorn), but it's very mild when compared to smoking. Using A Vaporizer What is the perfect temperature for vaporization? It really depends on the vaporizer. However, the optimum temperature range for most vaporizers is somewhere within 335 to 385 degrees Fahrenheit How long does it take for the vaporizer to heat up? It really depends on the vaporizer. Some vaporizers take 3-4 minutes to reach vaporizing temperatures, whereas some units can heat up in 10 seconds! Do I need to grind my herbs before vaporizing? Definitely. Grinding your herb allows for more efficient vaporization because it increases the surface area of your herbs and allows hot air to pass through much more effectively. Why am I not seeing any smoke? There shouldn't be any smoke, you're vaporizing! The whole idea of vaporizing is to avoid the dangerous effects of smoking. You should, however, see a light cloud of white vapor when you exhale. How much vapor you see depends on your vaporizing temperature. Higher temperatures will produce denser vapor, whereas lower temperatures will produce less visible vapor. Your herbs should never turn to ash while vaporizing. Since you are heating the herbs at a much lower temperature than smoking, you are avoiding the point of combustion which normally turn your herbs into ash. Instead, you are extracting the key elements from your herbs without actually burning them. How can I tell when my herbs are finished vaporizing? It all depends on your preference. Some users will stop when the herbs have turned lightly brown, while other users will vaporize until the herbs are much darker. How do I clean my vaporizer? For glass components, Orange Chronic and Agent Orange are an excellent choice for keeping your glass clean and sparkling. You might need to disassemble some of the parts before you begin to ensure a thorough cleaning. Q-tips are great for reaching those hard-to-reach spots. Most vaporizer screens can be cleaned with a small brush or glass-cleaning solution. This allows for proper air flow and maximum efficiency. All major credit cards accepted.
