TVM Wines — a sister company to Sweet Springs Winery — will soon feature the first legally approved hemp oil infused wines at its tasting rooms in Lipan and Weatherford.

The Lipan tasting room is located next to Natty Flat Smokehouse and will open on Thursday, March 15.

“After two years of working on infusing hemp into wine, we’ve created a great product that has met all legal requirements, making it the first wine per the TTB to do so in the USA,” said TVM’s vice president of sales and marketing Elease Hill.

A tasting event will be held at the Lipan location starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, and will feature wine and fresh sangria, live music, shopping and barbecue.

The hemp oil infused wine cocktails include flavors like strawberry daiquiri, Texas tea, pina colada and spiced rhumba and cola.

So why is hemp oil added? According to several online resources, hemp oil can offer health benefits.

“The oil contains sitosterol, which can help lower cholesterol. It also contains tocopherols, which have antioxidant properties to help prevent your cells from damage and anticancer agents,” states an article from LIVESTRONG.com. “Hemp oil contains all of the essential amino acids (that) help maintain the proteins in your body, which can prevent muscle loss.”

The oil contains small amounts of calcium, potassium, magnesium, copper, folate and vitamins B-6 and E.

“The oil has a nutty flavor that will enhance many recipes,” the article states.

The wines are not only available at the winery tasting rooms, but are now available in more than 45 retail locations across DFW.

“Our goal was to not only reach wine drinkers, but those that normally would not drink wine,” said Chairman of TVM Wines Ron Mittelstedt.
