Love Hemp Water, a functional spring water infused with cannabis oil and containing 2mg of hemp extract, has gone on sale in Ocado in the UK.
The beverage is made using cannabidiol (CBD), a botanical extract of the hemp plant, which is created by pressing hemp leaves and flowers.
The CBD-infused water is available from Ocado in 500ml and 1.5 liter bottles as both singles and multipacks. The 500ml bottles cost £1.29 while an eight pack of 1.5 liter bottles costs £11.99.
Citing figures from the Cannabis Trades Association UK, Love Hemp Water said that the number of people in Britain using cannabidiol has risen “from 125,000 to 250,000 in the past 12 months”.
Tony Calamita, co-founder of Love Hemp Water, said: “There’s a growing understanding of the wide ranging benefits of cannabis oil to health and well-being which is why we have launched the first every day hemp water product.
“Each 500ml bottle of Love Hemp is sugar free and contains 2mg of natural hemp extract. It tastes great and is naturally hydrating. We’re proud to be starting a hemp water revolution.”
A spokesperson for Ocado said: “This is one of the most interesting new products we have seen.”
Last year, Constellation Brands paid CAD 245 million ($191 million) for a 9.9% stake in Canopy Growth Corporation, a Canadian supplier of medicinal marijuana, as it aims to launch a series of cannabis-infused alcoholic drinks.
Meanwhile, US beverage company Tarukino introduced a line of six cannabis-infused drinks targeted at consumers looking for alternative ways to consume cannabis.
