Hemp farmers in Palisade will now be able to process and sell hemp closer to home.

On Tuesday night, the Palisade Board of Trustees approved an ordinance that will add industrial hemp establishments to the town’s zoning regulations, which dictate how land can be used in certain areas.

Before the decision was made, hemp farmers could grow hemp but would have to go somewhere else to process and sell.

“By keeping it local I think that there’s a great amount of profit that able to be enjoyed by local growers,” Cox said.

Many growers would have to drive to Denver or Utah in order to sell their finished products.
