Ford employees discovered 277 pounds of marijuana in a shipment of vehicles on Wednesday at the Ford Rail Distribution Facility in Woodhaven, according to federal authorities.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesman said the marijuana was turned over to the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unit.
Marijuana was concealed in "rail cars containing new Ford and Lincoln vehicles recently imported from Mexico," according to ICE.
"This seizure ensures that these illegal drugs will never be distributed in our communities and offers actionable intelligence that HSI and our partners can now develop into a larger probe," said Steve Francis, HSI special agent in charge, in a news release.
Ford employees found the drugs after they were offloaded at the distribution center, and the company's loss prevention staff contacted the Woodhaven Police Department.
Federal, state and local authorities then investigated 200 vehicles. No arrests have been made, but authorities are continuing to follow multiple leads, and Ford is continuing to cooperate with the investigation.
