Worlds first 4:20 'on High'

Well, its true.. on the 20th of April, at 4:20pm in the amphitheatre on "High Street" Christchurch New Zealand, a TXT initiated gathering assembled to draw attention to and protest the cruel and unusual punishment being metered out in Bali (Indonesia) to 27yr old Australian Schapelle Corby who now faces death by firing squad.

In what is one of the most absurd prosecutions in pot history all over mere 4Kg of herb - an amount smoked by USA lovers of the 'erb in just 20/100ths a second, in Australia every ten seconds, and in New Zealand every minute of every day, 365 days of the year. (19000, 1000 and 200 tons pa respectively)

At 4:20, first in the world because of the date line, Christchurch citizens got to hear that our own Prime Minister, Hon Helen Clarke was off signing a Free Trade Agreement with Thailand just as the Thai government announced another 'crackdown' on drugs. The same thing 2yrs ago saw more than 4000 people 'killed in a hail of gunfire' in less than 90 days..all extrajudicial killings to uphold the war on drugs (and be eligable for favoured nation status by the UN).

This is not free trade... and it's certainly isnt border control in anything but name only. It is a monstrous and hypocritical expression of failed drug policy that anyone would have to be shot dead to save themselves from self harm.

So, despite progressive calls from our own Royal Australian and New Zealand Colleges of Psychatrists and Medical Practitoners that its health issue and not a law and order one maintained for political expediency... and
despite an evidential base for reform, New Zealand is aiding and abetting 'bad law'.

The corruption in due process in failing to address the required and highly indicated reform both here and abroad makes us as collectively responsible for Corby's sentence 'as if we were pulling the triggers ourselves'.

It is we as a nation state that ascribe and give credence to the covenants and conventions that allow governments such as Indonesia and Thailand to exact these perverse rules.

And all this on the same day that Canada approved 'whole cannabis' in liquid form for its medical effiacy...

So thats what happened at the worlds first 4:20 on 20th of the 4th.
Lets hope that this message resonates around the world. No drug war executions in my name, or those 100 or so souls that voiced there support for Ms Corby in this trying time for her family and freinds.

The real target for our collective angst is the UN Single Convention on Narcotics (1961) and the insane ideology that we can arrest (and shoot) our way of this inane war on some agricultural substances.

Free trade & Smoke free!!
