Will bud washing remove my pest and powder mildew prevention spray?

Hiya VanIslandConnoisseur Not entirely sure this is applicable but I just recently chopped some aphid infested plants that had the opportunity to finish pretty much all the way and which I sprayed the crap of them with neem oil solution as they were finishing. I soaked them for a bit in a bath of H2O2 and water, then sprayed the crap out of them with the jet setting on my garden hose. They definitely don't smell like neem anymore. They don't smell very strong of weed either though, quite hayish...certainly possible that will change as they cure but I was able to get them neem scent free anyway. I also have a batch in jars already that I noticed smells a bit like...which did not have rinse. DANGIT! Oh well, looks like I'm smokin neem! Cheers mate, gl to your grow! :yahoo:

Im using a mix of 30 ml h2o2, 3.25ml baking soda and 5 ml dish soap that smells, to prevent sider mites and other pests along with preventing pm, will washing my bud at harvest remove the scent of dish soap sprayed once a week?

Do you have pests or pm at the moment?

Dish soap is not a part of a regular ipm solution. It’s more like a shock therapy.

To your actual question, yes probably some of the residue will be dissolved and your buds will be cleaner but never 100% clean. And you’ll lose trichomes.

Both dish soap and washing the buds are last resort type solutions for me.

Okay, i had spider mites 5 days ago, i used 1:1 iso : h2o, and just sprayed today with my preventative solution, can you please tell me the best solution for mites and mildew? Always looking for the best!

Do you have them? Are you battling with an infestation?

If so, then dish soap is not a solution. A pyrethrum based insecticide would work. And it dissipates fairly quickly and completely. But it kills on contact so you will not get any protection from spraying them down just like the dish soap. I personally use NeemAzal but never in flowering. My point is if you are not battling them actively, let them grow naturally.

For PM, if you have it yeah h2o2 and potassium bicarbonate works well. Also milk comes to mind. UVC sterilization is another option in killing PM and so on. But these doesn’t solve the problem of spores and if you are getting PM, maybe you should increase airflow and get an air purifier to run at your grow room. One that can either filter out or destroy spores. By the way i’m not sure if you are growing indoors or not so these are just basic indoor advices. Lowering the humidity is another option.

When you say preventative i assumed that you are not battling with an active infestation.

Ok i just found your other thread where you’ve posted some pics of eggs and from what i see you haven’t made a positive id of spider mites. And dish soap can burn your plant and stress can make it hermie etc.

I see it’s outdoors also, these are precious pieces of info man. From my prior outdoor experience spider mites are hard to eradicate and dish soap is not enough to compelety kill them either. And that wet and cool weather is not something they enjoy. So you probably don’t have them.

My point is get a microscope look under the leaves if you see any then spray with something. There is always something to spray with.

If you are referring to using the hydrogen peroxide in washing your harvested material, then nope. No worries. When you harvest use 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide, to about 5 gallons of water. Then dip your branches and buds in there for about 5 minutes. Completely under water. (This WILL NOT damage your plant or buds) you'll see the white film and stuff come off. Take your buds out dry properly and ur good to go!! After doing this, you'll remove any unwanted tastes, smells, critters and fungeses from your plant. Saving your crop entirely.

You can look up a video on YouTube with this method. My friend Jeorge Cervantes can help ya out. YouTube "washing harvest buds". ;) good luck and cheers! :snowboating: :snowboating:

Do I use the same technique of I had to use this for aphids during veg.?

I don't notice any taste. Any dish soap(I use Dove) and 1/2 tsp/gal or so. When I rinse before harvest, I use fairly warm RO water in my sprayer

Nice good to hear, 2.5ml( 1/2 tsp ) per gallon. It works well? How often you apply to prevent mites n such? I read many articles and average was my 6.25ml initally per 700ml, it seems to strong and i bet yours is gold and i need to reduce my soap to .625ml per litre (1/4 of 2.5ml( 1/2 tsp ) )

I use it mostly in my greenhouse where I grow in the ground. I apply about every 7-10 days. Indoors I use it when there is a problem. I do monitor the undersides of my leaves with a loupe. Never apply anything to the leaves in bright light. Neem is 30ml/gallon, plus 2-5 ml of dish soap. The soap is just to aid in the oil spreading. Make sure to get under the leaves especially.

Ok thanks, im using way too much. I will use that ratio, is it efficient?

Check this out.

Bud Washing

As for gnats I don’t know how to deal with them outdoors. Indoors its a combination. You have to break the cycle. I used nematodes for the soil (eat larva, eggs, and babies) and bug spray for the leaves. It’s a battle. I bud washed at harvest to get rid of any residue.

One might remember this. As the buds grow, what was there gets covered up by new growth. Covering mildew. Bugs. Hairs and whatever else might be there. Soap..

No bid washing is ever gonna get it all.

I try not to think about that much

Cheers
