Wi-Fi Remote Camera?

I'm away for a week shortly so I am looking to make it as safe as possible while I'm away
I have taken all possible precautions with power/electrics and it is sound, and have a drip system to take care of watering
I can adjust the venting to run the tent at about 22C, so nothing gets even warm
Now I'm wondering whether it would be any use to install a web cam so I can keep an eye on things on my phone?
At least if something did happen, I would get an alert and I could raise the alarm, even if I had to blow my cover with the cops - I'd rather that than a disaster
What do you reckon folks? Anyone done this?

Lots use Wyze, cuz of added features. IP cams are hackable, but it's at your discretion. I use one I picked up used at a swap meet for $20

I've gone away for as long as 18 days with flowers going automated watering.

As long as your drip system is set up and running properly and you've dialed it in for a few weeks already, yer good. I did the cam thing many years ago. Was a waste of money tbh. At least for me. More like a novelty.

That said the first day away is pretty stressful. I'm at the point I'm looking for a house sitter next summer. Someone I can trust which is a hard pill to swallow. I'm old school dont trust that many people.

I'm divided - I know it's pretty safe and I've never had an accident in all my years of indoor growing, but as you say the niggling worry is always there
Question is, is it any peace of mind? Sounds like perhaps not...

The tech has come a long way, and it's more affordable than before. It's kine of peace of mind but it's like watching a train wreck Hakeem in slow motion haha... nothing you can do immediately haha.
Yeah, not expensive, £20 for a 1080p and I can see what you mean, but I can set it to pick up the smoke alarm (ie sound activated) and send me an alert at least? Might be better than coming back to a black flat or worse

Hey @Growings Hope you have a nice trip.
If your obviously going to leave your system on while your away there is always some risk.
Anything you can do to mitigate risk is beneficial.
Every little bit helps. :thumb:

Stay safe

Even a neighbor to phone in case, plus as @Bill284 says "...put the largest extinguisher next to your tent."

Did you see the automatic extinguishers that mount on the ceiling of the tent.
A couple of them might be appropriate while your away.
Right here.

I wanted to chime in and hopefully help a littke. I struggle with consistent watering. It is primarily a novice grower thing. But I have made steps to automate my grow. More to be able to monitor and control the environment better. Here is a screenshot of one of my temp monitors. I also have some for RH. These are wifi based so I can check it remotely and setup alerts.

I'm moving toward "self-watering" containers to help me with keeping things in check with moisture. Unfortunately, I'm not setup for drippers yet but that is definitely my next step to get dialed in.

I was going to install a ReoLink camera in my tent to make some time lapse footage. Mainly because it would be fun to give it a try. Otherwise, I agree that it would be torture to watch them growing.

Does IR affect plants, I thought only fared did.
I've seen it first hand, more then once. Left the IR on with my Wyze.

And IR does indeed effect plants, it's in most newer LED lights nowadays

Good point @Rexer, hadn't thought of that
Gotta love this place :Namaste:

Either 'hackable' or installed with a bit of software designed to collect every bit of data possible about the phone and camera's user. Just about every app and device that is linked to a phone these days is there to gather data.

Ever wonder why so many games and apps need to access the photographs on a phone? Or why a game needs to access a 'facebook' account? Why do all these apps need to have the GPS app turned on?

@SmokingWings
Off topic, I drop Zuck social a while ago. Was sad cuz I was on my way to "food influence" status on IG but yah, I know what you talking about with surveillance through our phones.
"Surveillance Capitalism" and "Data Analytics"... they do not need to know the person's name, just the neighborhood they live in and what they buy and how often they buy something. "Data Analytics" is getting to be big and the companies that do it are not sure what or why, but they know if they keep gathering and analyzing they will eventually hit on something and be able to sell it to someone who will use the data to sell to the customer.

I got a cheap 25$ baby monitor to do the same thing. Works well for what it is about, doesn't have the cam zoom but it keeps me from making hourly trips to the girls room just to check on them. Didn't hook it up to the cloud service that they sell with the cam but I didn't need that just wanted a closed system to monitor the girls.
