Why people still use paper towel method?

Best regards to all,

I'm a direct to soil (coco) method, it showed itself to me as 100% sucess.

I still see many people use towel method or drenching in water then towel.
Im just curious why, are there benefits or it seems like its easier rather then straight to soil method..

I know you need to be gentle with amount of watering when going directly to soil but that is not so hard, and with towel method you always risk to damage the root.

I'm not looking for help directly, just want others opinion or if there some arguments over methods I would like to here them.

Happy growing to all 😀

I just like to see if the seed is viable before putting it into my medium, no waiting for days !

And I abandoned the tried and true paper towel method, I now soak each seed in a shot glass with some distilled or spring water and a shot of H202 until I see a tail.

Takes anywhere from 36 - 48 hours.

Cheers

That makes sense to see if its viable, okey one thing is I only use seeds from the stores, I sure wouldn't go directly with bag seeds or old seeds..

That's why I opened the thread,to hear others,to hear other conclusions based on experience :yahoo:

i aint ever had success with the paper towel method, sometimes i will soak my seeds while i prep the soil and the dixi cups, however i usually just soak the soil, let it drain pluck a little seed in a shallow hole, and top it off with a dome. depending on the temps seem to depend on jow slow or fast the seed pops n roots. most the seeds sow. theres always that one that takes its time, pops and starts and then stops doing anything.
plus, i cant ever keep the paper towel wet long enough to use that method. and i aint ever got paper towels.lol

anyone ever use a washcloth to do the same thing as with the PT? just curious.

That's the other thing with paper towel, I have a brain of a gold fish, I would forget to moisten it and f..k it 😅 expecially in the winter with heating inside of house,it just dries to qucikly

You guys are missing one important part of the paper towel method, keep the towel in a plastic bag or between two plates !

Stays wet longer :yahoo:

With the soaking in water method it would take a week or longer for the glass to dry up 😆

Cheers

Haha it makes sense, I'm lazy, I'm going after mr. Canucks methods of a lazy man 😅

i use paper towels because i'm extremely cheap and a masochist .... :p

i grow in straight perlite so there's no planting direct into that.🤪
i could use plugs but .... cheap, and i'd miss out on the heart stopping probability of a germinated seed falling to the bottom of a hempy cup destroying my efforts and finances ... so much fun...

Okey that's different, but you give me something to research now.. straight perlite? Sounds interesting cheaper and a whole lot harder 🤣

No f..k it, Coco is my new best friend with a little help of perlite .. maybe some day I will look into that straight perlite 😅

cheapest hydro style to run hands down. it's passive - hand fed with nutes. similar to coco.

and a whole lot harder

only the germinating if you do it the way i do. which i never recommend to anyone new to hempy lol
it's easy if you use plugs.

other than that, it's a super simple system.

if my nutes work out i'm gonna germinate seeds paper towel method starting later today.

Ohoo, journal comes along I hope?

probably just in my ongoing hempy perpetual journal. i only do side journals if it is a sponsored grow or if i change methods. second line in my sig. i'm gonna move it back to the top soon as the seedsman journal is finished.

I do the following: Soak seeds that are to be grown in a small cup of warm water with a solution of Peroxide 20% to water, this helps soften the seed shell and provides a sterile environment. Place the seed in and it floats, within 24 hours it should have sunk to bottom and possibly even shows the tap root, if it still is floating after 24 hrs, it gets tossed. I then place the seed carefully between a moistened (not soaked) doubled up paper towel or my wife's cotton make up pads and place these into a small ziploc baggie after blowing some air to keep it expanded a little. I spray a mist of water into the baggie before doing this. Usually after 24 hours I can place into dirt and after 24 hrs there usually is a new girl waking up. I dome these as well and start out in Solo cups, even if they are autos. I transplant within 7 to 10 days after sprout, so the tap doesn't get bothered.

I dont want to step on my wifes toes 😅 wherw are my pads 😅
I will try maybe sometime, but I personally loved it this time with lazy man method just sticked them in final pots of coco and all 4 of them rised thru in 3,4 days 🫠
