When to flip the lights to 12/12

Quick question.....if plants usually double sometimes triple in height and she's a foot tall with alternating leaves. If your space is only 5ft height and you wanna leave a foot minimum for lighting would you flip the lights to start flowering? I've already topped it once. I really don't want to train or cut anymore.

What type of plant is it? I believe that in general indicas stretch less than sativas. If it were me, with a sativa, I would flip soon. If it is an indica, I might wait until they were a bit taller. I am still pretty new to growing, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

To fit a certain height you have to flower them early. Lot's of people do just that with great results. Most of the good stuff is close to the top any way.

With that low of a cieling, I would suggest that you use the scrog technique. This will maximize the harvest yield greatly. It matters not how many plant you have in a small tent, it is how cubic feet you have for flowering. A 4×4 tent with a 6 ft ceiling will get the same yield whether it be 1 or 4 plants growing within. Scrog grows can easily get 3lbs in that small tent with the proper grow conditions applied to it in every way with just one plant. Adding more just gives more potential issues of concern but won't increase yeild potentials one bit.
The only reason for more than one is for variety, not quantity.
