When is it best time to flip for best yield? Any definitive answers

I flip when the ground to tip of the plants is 1/3 the maximum I want them to be. There's no guarantee your plants will stay within the envelope you want. I've always had a few colas that stretched higher than I wanted. I'm using plant yoyos to support them, and guide them clear of the light.

I flipped this grow clones at 10" and they stretched to over 36", so they were well over 200%.
But I agree with Salty there that a 1/3 should work great.

Looking for clarification, when you said from the ground did you mean the base of the plant or the actual floor of the grow tent? New to indoor and I'm looking for info so I dont run out of room

I'm really glad this was posted because I'm in the same boat. A 2x4x5 tent, I'm 45 days in with 2 gelato's, 2 Jack H's (both Seedsman), a 00 Bubblegum, and RQS Serbert. All very strong and two looking to lean heavily sativa.

I read somewhere that plants don't reach full maturity and you wont get the fullest possible yield unless the plants are 60 days old. I've also read that you should wait until the nodes alternate. Any truth to either?

I have all mine topped and LST'd so I don't know if height necessarily matter's in my situation. My concern is more about the maturity of the plant.

Some say they need to reach maturity. That's when alternating nodes start

I've done both ways, best thing I can say is grow to your environment, the plant will adjust itself

Go from the measurement of the longest branch to the ground, following the branches back to the stem, and finally the ground. It's a good indicator of how large your plant will get.
