On Wednesday, Texas issued its first medical marijuana license for a company aiming to help patients with a rare form of epilepsy.
With more companies expecting medical marijuana licenses soon, how do Texans feel?
According to a February 2017 poll conducted by the University of Texas and Texas Tribune, 83 percent of Texans probably feel pretty good, responding they "support legalizing marijuana for some use."
Of those surveyed, 30 percent approved marijuana for medical use only, 32 percent approved of small amounts and 21 percent approved any amount of marijuana.
The recent poll shows an uptick in support for some form of marijuana legalization since the last time the survey was conducted in 2015.
At the time, 76 percent of Texans supported legalizing marijuana for some use.
In the two-year period between both polls, Texans who believed marijuana should be completely illegal decreased by seven points.
The closest Texas has gotten to some form of marijuana legalization was during the 2017 Legislative Session when House Bill 81, a bill to decriminalize the possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, was co-authored by 41 Republicans and Democrats.
A vote for the bill was scheduled but never occurred due to "procedural tactics employed by the conservative Texas Freedom Caucus," according to the Dallas Observer.
