What Mesh size?

Hey im new on starting to grow and i would Like to know what Mesh size i need for hydroponics growing? I have 3 Inch Mesh pots at Home but i didnt plant the seedlings cause i didnt know If 3 Inches would be big enough? (You can also give me some Tips too If you Guys want to)
