wattage for small grow

i intend on growing sometime in the near future. it is going to be a small guerilla setup indoors. i know the standard for growing is .5g/watt. but for a few plants (enough to keep me in smoke) what would be the optimum amount of light? 600W? 400W? thanks any help would be appreciated. stay green. peace.

I'm using a 250w HPS system for 3 plants. Seems to be enough, but I would recommend getting the 400w system if you can afford the power.
