Water air filter?

If u seal my grow tent during flowering. Put a cheap air pump inside the tent with a length of hose leading to a jug a slightly soapy water (to diminish if not remove the water tension, aka the middle school experiment that they show you what water tension is) with an air stone at the bottom would that be an effective enough scrubber for minimizing if not neutralizing the smell? It's only be for a single plant.

Hey BE,

I hate to burst your bubble (get it - surface tension joke!) but, I don't believe that would make for an effective air scrubber. While water can be used as a pretty decent purifier - think Rainbow vacuums - what you need for it to be effective is a significant enough interaction, and you're looking at a rather limited amount of water (guessing 1-2 gallons) for it to interact with, and only the time it takes for a bubble to reach the surface for interaction time. Also, that water will only absorb so many impurities before it simply allows the bubbles to pass through unchanged.

What you may be able to do is run your line into the jug, with air stone, then fill with activated carbon, like you can get from a fish store, then fill most of the way with water, allowing enough head space not to bubble out. Passing the vent air through water and activated carbon should result in significantly cleaner air. Even still, I'm not certain that an air pump like that will move enough air to make a significant impact on the scent in the tent, even a small one.

Do you have space to run a 2.5-3'' inline fan with a DIY carbon filter on the end near the top, perhaps above your light? With something like that you could purify the air inside before it has a chance to escape. Chemical filtration, like with activated carbon, is a highly effective way to scrub the air and offers the benefit of being easy to obtain and safe to work with.

The other concern I have is that of air exchanging inside the tent. How air tight is it? Are you going to end up pulling a vacuum in the tent? Are you exchanging enough air to allow sufficient CO2 to enter?

Water is a great filter for whatever comes in with the air.... It's about the only way spores looking for a home can get into the water... Here's my solution to keeping my reservoir clean.... There's no back pressure, the pump doesn't work any harder with the filter, than it does without it.... It's an easy fix to get a clean reservoir...
