The mayor of Kennewick says he will ask the City Council to revisit the city's ban on marijuana-related businesses now that the Legislature has changed state law to send tax revenue from those businesses to municipal governments.
The Tri-City Herald reports that Mayor Steve Young says he will bring the ban back before the council.
Tax revenue from marijuana businesses is estimated to be $12 million statewide between 2015 and 2017, with 60 percent going to counties and 40 percent to cities. In 2018, one third of that money would go toward municipalities as long as tax revenues exceed $25 million.
The council was briefed on the medical and recreational marijuana laws during a meeting last week. At that time they did not move to reevaluate the ban.
