Yakima, Wash. - The Yakima City Council will discuss potential revisions to the city's marijuana ordinance during its regular business meeting Tuesday.

In July, the council voted 4-3 to require marijuana businesses to abide by a 1,000-foot buffer zone around sites such as schools and child care centers. They also voted to allow marijuana retailers in the large convenience center, local business, general commercial, regional development and central business district zoning districts.

Though the current ordinance is in line with state law regarding marijuana businesses, the council wants to revisit certain aspects of the ordinance, including the option to extend the buffer to those licensed as family home child care centers, where the licensee takes care of children in one's home.

The council will also consider whether to add the small convenience center zone as one of the permitted zoning districts for marijuana retail. That addition could also include requiring a higher-level of land use review to locate in that zoning district.

Also up for discussion is the city's six-year transit development plan, which outlines Yakima Transit's short- and long-term priorities for public transportation and capital improvements as well as a request for a letter-of-support for Bicycle Apartments, a proposed apartment complex 118 N. 50th Ave. The 80-unit development from Next Step Housing would bring additional affordable housing options online, including for homeless families, those with disabilities and veterans.

The Yakima City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Yakima City Hall, 129 N. Second St.
