Veg room sugestions?

Ok guys. I have my bloom room done and ready and have my girls growing in there now but I want to build out another area to be the future veg/ mother/clone room. It is 4 foot by 8 foot with 8 ft cielings. What would be the best way to light the area? Ive considered CFL for economy but will I get the grow rate I need?

I would say get a 600w HPS running a CMH bulb. Other than that you will need lots of CFLs unless you go with the 200w CFL light and hood. Which you would still need more because that will just be enough for the Mother plant to soak up and she'll need the room. So depending on how many plants are vegging in that area and the size you veg them to. I would say 2x 200w CFLs and teh clones can catch the light that filters down from those since they dont need alot of light since they will be focusing on rooting.

T5 or T8 would probably be better suited for that size area than cfl.

All my plants are vegged under a 125w 6500k gaint CFL E40 mogul/bayonet fitting & have no issues with growth rate.

That is a decent sized space.

How big is your flower room and lighting?
How many plants did you want to veg/clone?
What is your budget?
Is this room climate controlled?

The flowering room is 8x8x8 and has 3 600w air cooled lights in it. I hope to keep 10 plants in rotation. Budget isnt huge by any means but its above average. The room is climate controled.

Thanks for the details. 10 full size plants in your 8x8 is very doable you but will need more than CFL's and LED's to veg them big enough to do any good. In your 4x8x8 I would go with HID lighting, maybe two 400w MH's or a 600w on a cheap lightmover would be a good shot to cover the whole 4x8 room with one light. The 600w on a lightmover would be the way I would set up a 4x8 room, I wouldn't even buy a MH conversion for the 600w, just an upgraded HPS with more blue added.

the bloom room has 2 600w hid. The veg room would do ok with on 600 on a mover?

Yes a 600w with a mover would do very well in the 4x8 for veg.

Shouldnt need more than a 2ft to 3ft travel to reach all the areas with the 600w in veg. If it were being used to flower instead then it would be a bit to little of light for my personal tastes, but for veg should do well. I have a friend that uses a 5x5 tent with a 600w for veg, keeps his light 24" above the plants and gets great growth, once ready to flower he just drops in his 1000w hps into the 5x5. With a mover you could easily keep the light 18" above the plants and still get get good coverage. Vegging needs less light than flowering.

I use buckets, boxes, etc... to keep my canopy close to even. Are you going for SOG, scrog, grown normal from seed, perpetual, etc...?

If I had your available space and setups to work with I would do two 600w's vertical bare bulb in the 8x8 with each bulb running 6 plants around them, think two big doughnuts ;), 100w a plant would be nice and you would still have room to work around the plants. In veg I would do the 600w on a lightmover in the 4x8x8 and veg them to 18" to 24" depending on the strain, but shoot for the plants to be 4ft to 5ft when finished, this way you can make full use of the 600w light output and cover the plants from top to bottom. With 12 plants in different stages of flower you could be harvesting pretty often. I'm thinking about doing a 600w bare bulb in my 4x4 tent and run 6 plants as well.

When you say bare bulb are you saying that it hangs with no reflector?

Great info just given. But with the mother plant he wants in the same room will out grow it soon since its getting so much light. And depending on the height of the room it will surely get to big unless he starts cutting on it alot. He would have to take 30+ clones at a time every other month as time goes on. Thats why i mentioned just putting a low T5 or 150w CFL over the mother plant so the growth wont be outrages. This is just my opinion because someone was having a similar issue with there mother plant and grow room of the same size with other plants vegging in there.

Ah didn't see the mother part but in that case just have the light mover travel to cover a 4x5 veg area and keep the mother and clones in the last 3x4 area getting indirect light from the 600w. A 4x5 is a good sized area to veg out in and with a perpetual running 12 plants the 4x5 area would never be too crowded.

That sounds alot better. The mother plant will be able to live off the indirect light. May still want to add like 4 small 100w CFL's on the end where the mother plant is. Because once that light hits the far end of the opposite side of the room its going to be completely dark. It takes 20minute to get from one end to other using a track light. So the CFL's would do justice

My lightmover pauses for 30 seconds on each end, runs at 10rpm and only takes 20 seconds to travel 18 inches, so basically it switches sides every minute, no time for dark spots and my light reaches the full tent even when it is on one side or the other. I use the Lightrail 3.5, you can find them for $125 to $160 shipped off eBay

Lightrail:
For a rectangular growing area, a linear lamp moving system is preferable. The self propelled Light Rail 3.5 Intelli Drive is without question, the finest linear lamp-mover available. It uses no pulleys, chains or gears. Simply mount the standard 6 foot track over the desired area and place the lamp-moving drive-motor onto the track. The Light Rail 3.5 Intelli Drive is supplied with adjustable switch stops, so lamp travel can be any length you wish. This is perfect for a start-up size garden through to a full growth garden. The standard 6 foot track may also be extended.

Light Rail works great with all reflectors!

Light Rail 3.5 is rated to 35 lbs
Light Rail 5.0 is rated to 100 lbs
Light Rail 3.5 - 10 RPM
