Vary strains to reduce tolerance?

Like many growers, I've settled on a few favorite strains and also like many I'm fighting tolerance. I've read anecdotally that varying strains helps reduce tolerance. Has anyone ever done a study or know of a study on this? I'm looking for a more definitive answer than, "I've heard that..."

Different or wider terpene and cannabinoid profile could result with better entourage effect with smaller dose. Even combining your regular flower with good CBD/CBG dominant could work good for you.
Plus using high performance vaporisation methods instead of smoking. Better to inhale the beneficial compounds than smoke it.

I keep several distinctly different strains for exactly that reason and different needs [sleep, appetite, creativity etc]
Never seen any kind of study or paper on it, but that's the way it is for me

I've heard/read it from several members on this message board and can add @Roy Growin to the list. Personal experience gives me the feeling that it is true.

I remember from back in the old days that when we picked up a new ounce or two it was great smoking stuff but after a week or two it was boring. When we ran low we bought something else, something new, and the world was good again for a week or two.

These days I have been growing clone from clone from clone for just over 6 years now along with several other strains. This gives the opportunity to do one flavor for a week and then a new one. I can bounce around between 5 to 6 different strains. Add in that some of the jars are from different clones which were grown with different fertilizers and that seems to also make a difference.

Something else that was recommended as worth a try was to combine two different strains for the same joint.

Mixing it up does help actually with that, or least in our experience here as my kid used to get the same Blue Widow from a friend back in high school and until I started growing. He seemed to notice a difference and in my own experience it seems to also, as said above it more complicated than thc% numbers, as terpene's and other cannabinoids also will affect the "high", which keeps it complicated/random for real science stuff ;)
It similar to drinking as % doesn't always equate to an equal/same high, I haven't drank in decades but in example a tequila drunk is different person than a whisky drunk with similar proof/alcohol % or least in my experience, and I knew a lot of drunks ;)
