Vancouver-based pot activist and dispensary owner Dana Larsen says he doesn't have a problem with drugstore chain Shoppers Drug Mart applying to Health Canada to dispense marijuana at its stores.
But he says he is concerned about the idea of pot sales going fully corporate.
"I think in the cannabis movement, we don't have any problem with that. The only issue we have is when these groups that get permission to sell cannabis want to close the door behind themselves, and make sure nobody else can get involved or be a part of the industry."
Larsen adds the rules still need to change in a big way for it to make sense for drugstores to stock cannabis products.
"More appropriate for businesses like Shoppers Drug Mart: capsules, tincutres, creams, those kinds of products, would fit better into a pharmacy model. Right now, for the most part those products aren't allowed to be sold by the Federal Government, which is really restricting medical cannabis, mainly to smokable buds only."
Earlier this year, Richmond-based chain London Drugs confirmed it too has been exploring the idea of selling legal pot through its pharmacies.
