Despite recent apposition from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to one of the medical marijuana bills before the Utah Legislature, Utahns still support legalizing the plant for medical purposes.
According to a Utah Policy poll, 61 percent of Utans say they support moving toward legalizing the drug. The poll was taken after the LDS church released a statement opposing Sen. Mark Madsen's bill to legalize. In a statement on its webpage, the church urged a "cautious approach" due to its worries of unitended consequences.
